Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Golden Particles

The sun came out, but Wang Wu wasn't able to find a suitable spot.

He accepted it.

Watching the golden sunlight, endowed by the heavens, fall on the cliff tops and the highest branches of the trees, he could only wait quietly and observe the details within.

And indeed, he noticed something different: within the sunlight, there were golden particles, and all the little demons bathed in the sunlight would quickly form a layer of golden halo around their bodies.

"Three minutes! A full three minutes!"

As the sunlight slowly moved downward, Wang Wu timed a rough estimate in his heart.

He named it Purple Gold Three Minutes, because this time period had the most golden particles, but only the tops of cliffs, small mountains, and tree crowns could enjoy it.

Next, the sunlight moved to the middle of the cliff, still not reaching Wang Wu.

All he could do was silently keep track of the time without doing anything else.

Finally, the sunlight reached the foot of the mountain, where Wang Wu soaked in the sunlight yesterday, and about three minutes had passed, so this should count as the Golden Three Minutes.

"Alright, when it's my turn, it's only considered Silver Three Minutes."

As Wang Wu was thinking this, he heard rustling in the forest's underbrush, giving him goosebumps as he feared something had happened. He then saw mice, mantises, spiders, grasshoppers, large ants, dung beetles, cabbage worms, scarabs, longhorn beetles, mole crickets... all kinds of small creatures and insects, both familiar and unfamiliar, madly rushing to occupy every advantageous position at the foot of the mountain.

Gosh, are you all serious?

Wang Wu was panicked. Yesterday, he came out too late from the rock crevice to witness this scene and only saw the retreat of these insects. At that time, he just felt the vitality of this forest was abundant, but today, watching again, it truly made his hair stand on end.

This could be rolled into eighty-eight layers of hell.

An enormous mantis, as big as a rat, suddenly wielded two mantis blades, issuing a deadly threat to Wang Wu, only to be blocked by Wang Wu's shadow.

Oh, so even you want to bully me?

Wang Wu didn't want to provoke public anger at this moment, so he moved slightly, while keeping an eye out and letting the sunlight shine on him. His Level 1 Spirit Essence stood out among the crowd of insects. Even during Silver Three Minutes, he could absorb about one golden particle per second, and about ten golden particles could be converted into a bit of Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi.

At this speed, even ten bugs were no match for him.

But there was one downside: soon, a large amount of hatred value gathered around Wang Wu because the density of golden particles was limited. The more Wang Wu absorbed, the less these bugs could get.

Eventually, the Mantis Blade Master made the first move, leaping up and slashing its double blades down quickly and deftly. Wang Wu, this rookie, couldn't dodge.

Well, he didn't intend to dodge anyway.

The next second, his defense was breached.

"The wandering Mantis Blade Master attacked you, and based on your Defense Attribute, you took 4 points of slash damage."

What? This actually works?

Wang Wu slapped the brave Mantis Blade Master to death with a backhand. Even if it was only a little bigger than Little Teddy, it was not something a little mantis like you...

"Whoosh whoosh whoosh!"

"Pop pop pop!"

Wang Wu was mobbed. Although the highest damage did not exceed 4 points and the lowest damage was less than 1 point, he was still scared enough to act wildly. With both paws flailing and charging around, he managed to take down more than thirty wandering Mantis Blade Masters, successfully laughing to the end.

But his Life Value was down to only 54 points.

More than half of this was caused by the Mantis Blade Masters.

Nothing more to say, Wang Wu, covered in injuries, began to gobble down food. After all, what did it matter if it's bugs he's eating? Crispy and chicken-flavored!

Indeed, it's true. These insects, which knew to come fight for Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi, were the standouts of their respective races, so they're quite nutritious, though the taste was not something to boast about. Yet Wang Wu's Satiety skyrocketed.

Occasionally, good luck would even grant him 0.1 points of Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi.

Damn, Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi even has decimal points, Wang Wu couldn't even complain.

Silver Three Minutes ended quickly, and Wang Wu increased his Satiety to 231 points while gaining 0.9 Spirit Qi altogether. From start to finish, he didn't waste any time and acquired a total of 18 points of Spirit Qi, accounting for yesterday's 6 points, the current total was 24.9 points.

"Heh heh, that's more like it."

Wang Wu secretly rejoiced but followed other bugs as they burrowed into the forest.

Yesterday he might have hidden in the rock crevice, but today trying the same trick again would be way too brash as the Black Snake Race's cold gaze was something he clearly felt.

So, first be a wandering Bear Warrior.

But the harshness of reality soon struck Wang Wu directly.

He had just found a dense thicket, intending to rest temporarily, when a dozen or so Gray Rats with huge tumors, exceedingly fierce, each almost half the size of Wang Wu, charged out like heavily armored knights, flipping the unprepared Wang Wu to the ground and almost tearing him apart.

Wang Wu struggled to retaliate, only managing to kill two fierce Gray Rats before more came out of the bushes, prompting him to turn tail and run.

Leaving behind a trail of delighted squeaks.

"You attempted to invade the territory of the Gray Rat Race and, unfortunately, were repelled."

"Your Healing Talent activated, requiring you to consume 200 points of Satiety to restore Life Value. This process takes five hours."

Mumbling a curse, Wang Wu saw his Life Value shrink to 20 points and could only lean against a solitary big tree, hiding in the lush grass, vigilantly watching his surroundings. He wasn't actually afraid of those insects, but rather larger animals. Yet strangely, this forest seemed devoid of any medium-sized or large beasts—not even any grass-eating rabbits.

Were they all eliminated?

Wang Wu thought of those barrel-thick large snakes, the meter-long Flame Scorpions, the over-two-meter Long Centipedes, and the transcendental White Rats. Ordinary beasts, even tigers and lions, might not be their match.

But then again, opportunity is equal.

If even these insects could occupy a piece of territory, perhaps those medium-to-large predators had it even better.

Especially considering collecting golden particles and transforming them into Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi every morning.

The answer came naturally.

That is, these fiercer beasts must have gone to higher peaks and broader areas.

Or perhaps this forest is a part of some Lion King or Tiger King's territory.

But they certainly can't be called little demons; they should be called Great Demons!
