Chapter 101 - Chapter 101: Research.

New York was a city constantly besieged by chaos. In this Marvel world, disasters weren't rare—they were routine. That was why Kurogai planned to introduce Skye to Wanda and Pietro. With the siblings around, if danger struck while he was away, he could rely on them to protect her.

But as soon as that idea crossed his mind, Kurogai thought of something even better.

He had always believed in taking control of his own power rather than depending on others. Relying on others brought too many risks. If he truly wanted Skye to be safe, it would be smarter to help her develop the strength to protect herself.

Thanks to the memories he carried from beyond this world, Kurogai knew who Skye really was—Destined to become Quake, the woman who would one day wield the power of vibration.

Skye's mother, Jiaying, was one of the Inhumans. Skye had inherited that bloodline. In the original timeline, she would awaken her abilities and evolve into Quake.

Originally, Kurogai had planned to let Skye awaken naturally when she came of age. But with all the changes his presence had already brought—like the emergence of the Phoenix and even the Goddess of Death—he felt the timeline was spiraling beyond control.

A subtle sense of urgency crept in.

So, he decided to push some of his plans forward, and Skye's awakening was one of them.

Fortunately, Kurogai had already made arrangements for this.

Inhumans were similar to mutants. Once awakened, they gained unique powers. But their awakening required more than just genetics—it required Terrigen Mist.

That was the key difference. Mutants awakened through genetic triggers and emotional catalysts. But Inhumans, the product of Kree experimentation, needed to be exposed to Terrigen Mist to awaken.

And Kurogai knew exactly where to find it.

"That old scroll is finally going to be useful," he murmured to himself.

During a battle with Hydra six years ago, Kurogai had taken a parchment scroll from their base. Before killing Whitehall, he'd extracted the scroll's secret: it led to a hidden Inhuman relic said to hold powerful ancestral items.

Most likely, Terrigen Mist.

But just in case it didn't, Kurogai had a backup: the Obelisk within S.H.I.E.L.D.

One way or another, he was confident he could help Skye awaken. That's why he'd asked her plainly if she wanted power—because he could give it to her.

Skye went quiet at first, her expression unreadable as she considered what her Kurogai-niisan had said. He didn't pressure her. He wanted the choice to be hers.

Finally, she looked up at him, her eyes filled with quiet determination.

"I want it. I want to become strong enough to protect you."

In truth, Skye had long felt useless. Whenever Kurogai acted, all she could do was stand on the sidelines. That sense of helplessness ate at her. Seeing Wanda and Pietro—people who actively fought beside Kurogai—made her feel that even more deeply.

She wanted to be one of them. Someone who stood at his side, not behind him.

That's why she spoke with such resolve. She wanted to become his strongest ally—not someone who always needed to be protected.

"In that case," Kurogai smiled gently, "I'll grant your wish."

He turned to Wanda and Pietro. "Keep training here as usual. I'll be taking Skye out for a bit."

After a brief explanation, he left with Skye. But instead of heading straight for the Terrigen Mist, he first returned to the orphanage to speak with Director Mary. He didn't want her to leave without letting her know.

Once he'd done that, Kurogai and Skye set off. A few days later, they arrived in a remote and arid mountainous region in the Southern Hemisphere.

Technically, he could've arrived much faster. With his teleportation ability and access to Kamui, distance wasn't an issue. But deciphering the scroll had taken more time than expected—it was more complex than he had imagined.

"Kurogai-niisan, is the treasure you mentioned really here?" Skye asked as she looked out at the dry and barren landscape.

It didn't look like anything special.

She was dressed for comfort, holding a cold drink in one hand and shading herself with a small umbrella. She looked more like she was on vacation than on a treasure hunt.

Of course, that was because Kurogai doted on her. After obtaining Kamui, one of the first things he'd done was stock it with all kinds of supplies. He never wanted Skye to lack anything, no matter the situation.

"Sometimes, appearances can be deceiving," Kurogai said, smiling. "What matters is what lies beneath."

He took her hand and led the way forward.

Soon, he spotted a cave entrance hidden within the rocky slopes. Without hesitation, Kurogai stepped forward, guiding Skye into the shadows of the mountain.

Actually, I totally forgot this isn't meant to be a Japanese type fanfic, you'd have probably noticed with the MC's name.

Fanfics too much, so it skipped my mind.

Also stuff like Nii-san would stop, I'd be using "Brother" back.
