Tsukuyomi — an illusion so powerful that even a psionic master like Professor X struggled against it. Storm, for all her strength, didn't stand a chance.
The moment she tried to rise, her body froze. In an instant, her consciousness was pulled into the illusionary world.
A second later, Storm's body collapsed to the ground, unconscious. Even in her final moment of awareness, her face reflected pure panic, revealing the horror she'd experienced within the illusion.
"Another one down. The power to command nature… Storm's genes should be exceptionally valuable," Kurogai murmured, striding toward her. With a practiced hand, he drew a small blade and made a careful incision, beginning the process of collecting her genetic DNA.
Moments later, the Ultimate Eye flashed, signaling that the extraction was complete. At that exact moment, a message surfaced in Kurogai's mind.
『The third ring has reached saturation. Elevation available. Proceed with upgrade?』
Kurogai was taken aback. He hadn't expected this opportunity to come so soon.
It had been a brutal climb to evolve the first and second tomoe rings. The third had only recently reached this stage — less than a day ago, in fact — after his encounter with Cyclops. The speed was unprecedented.
"This is faster than I imagined. Ultimate Eye… you've changed. But I like this change," Kurogai thought with a smirk. As he reflected, a theory formed in his mind.
"The genetic levels of Professor X and Storm are on another tier. Charles is a peak Alpha-level mutant, and Storm is one of the rare Omegas. Their DNA carries an extraordinary quality — that must be what triggered this."
Kurogai speculated further. If the total capacity of tomoe power within each ring was fixed, then fewer available upgrades would mean a steeper climb each time. The first and second tomoe rings had been tough because their capabilities were limited. The third, with its broader potential, allowed for more frequent upgrades.
Still, it was speculation. In the end, only power mattered.
"It seems I should prioritize high-level mutants from now on… though even low-level ones have their use. Even a small fish is still food."
Without hesitation, Kurogai gave the mental command to the Ultimate Eye. "Elevate."
A rush of warmth surged from the Ultimate Eye on his forehead, gathering in his eyes. Three tomoe Sharingan rotated and glowed, then its shape began to change.
The three tomoe elongated, merging at their tips, forming a jagged, triangular shuriken symbol.
Mangekyou Sharingan: Kamui!
Activation successful.
A grin spread across Kurogai's face. "Kamui, huh? I expected another ability, but this… this is a game-changer."
Kamui wasn't just a spatial technique. While Kurogai had previously dabbled with dimensional magic like the spatial gates wielded by sorcerers, Kamui was in a different league.
Unlike a magic portal tethered to fixed points in the real world — detectable and traceable by skilled magic-users — Kamui created its own dimension. A personal, isolated space existing outside known realms.
This meant safety. If Kurogai ever faced an enemy whose power he couldn't match — especially a sorcerer — conventional spatial magic could be compromised. Kamui, however, was undetectable. A self-contained world.
It was a powerful new trump card, and it thrilled him. Especially knowing that the ancient feud between the Phoenix Force and Death herself lingered unresolved. With each new advantage, his confidence grew.
"Time to find more mutants."
After a moment to savor his new ability, Kurogai's gaze swept over the sprawling grounds of the X-Mansion.
Professor X's earlier telepathic broadcast had prompted most of the faculty to evacuate students through secret passages. But several mutants remained, either unaware or unable to flee in time.
It didn't take long. Kurogai tracked down the stragglers one by one. Their resistance, no matter how unique their abilities, meant little in the face of Tsukuyomi.
A single glance, and they crumpled, unconscious.
Another set of genes collected. Another step forward.
No power they wielded could prevent it. In minutes, Kurogai had gathered the blood of every remaining mutant in the academy.
All that remained were the relocated groups — and Kurogai intended to find them.
