Chapter 1 - Saga Of The Nightwalker

*Chapter 1: Shadows Within*

Kaidën "Kaid" Blackwood stood atop the worn stone parapet, gazing out into the twilight-shrouded streets of Tenebrous. The city's eternal dusk seemed to mirror his own soul – forever trapped between light and darkness.

As a Nightwalker, Kaid's existence was a delicate balance of power and restraint. His abilities allowed him to manipulate shadows, but at a terrible cost. The more he used his powers, the more he risked losing himself to the darkness within.

Kaid's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps echoing through the alley below. A figure emerged from the shadows, clad in dark leather armor and carrying an air of quiet confidence.

"Lyra," Kaid said, his voice low and even. "What brings you to this part of town?"

Lyra's piercing green eyes locked onto Kaid's, and she smiled. "I've received a message from an unknown client. They seek your... particular skills."

Kaid raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What kind of job?"

Lyra hesitated, her smile faltering. "I'm not entirely sure. But the pay is substantial, and the client seems... desperate."

Kaid's instincts prickled. This could be the opportunity he'd been waiting for – or a trap waiting to be sprung.

"What did the message say, exactly?" Kaid asked, his eyes narrowing.

"It was a simple note, delivered by a courier," Lyra replied, producing a small piece of parchment from her cloak. "It reads: 'Meet me at the old windmill on the outskirts of town. Come alone.'"

Kaid's gaze lingered on the parchment before he looked up at Lyra. "You know I don't take jobs that require me to go in blind."

Lyra nodded. "I know. But there's something about this that feels... off. I think it's worth investigating."

Kaid's thoughts raced as he weighed the risks and potential rewards. He could use the money, and the mystery surrounding the job piqued his interest.

"Alright," Kaid said finally. "Let's go."

With a nod, Lyra fell into step beside him, and together they disappeared into the shadows, bound for the old windmill
