That night, Liam heard voices through the air vent.
He pressed his ear close.
"Liam… Liam… he's waking up…"
Another voice answered, deeper, colder.
"He needs to forget. Or he becomes one of them."
Then a third voice—closer than the others—whispered directly into his ear:
"Don't turn around."
But he already had.
And what he saw standing behind him—was himself, bleeding from the eyes, grinning from ear to ear.
"Welcome home," the doppelgänger said.
