Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: A Deviation From Tradition

The sight of towns and people blurred past their carriage as they headed back to his parents. Clomere sat quietly, her hands folded neatly on her lap while Jarren stared blankly at the sky, now covered with red streaks as the sun had long begun it's descent.

"What kind of glyph is that that you wield? I've never seen anything like it." Clomere asked, her jaded eyes locking onto the glyph that danced in his palm with no purpose. "A special kind, a personal project. Do you think you can decode it?" His smile taunting her.

"No, it's text are not of this world, maybe that of the fallen one?" Her tone casual as she grew to be more free around him. Not to her choice as a strange calmness invaded her body when she was around him. "Wrong." His tone light as he shifted his attention to her. Her breathes hastened slightly.

Under those obsidian beads, she felt as if she was stripped bare of any secrets that she harboured in her mind. She darted her eyes elsewhere. "Do you have any interest in becoming a mage or knight?" Her face taken aback. "No, I'm content in serving you, after all there is no need to waste resources on a slave like me."

There it was, a word her mind spoke so casually it frightened her. "You'd be more interesting awakened. Maybe accompany me when I venture about. Participate in duels and serve me in bed." His tone mischievous making her shudder at the thought. Before he could torment her any further, the carriage came to a stop.

"I'll have to do that the next time we meet." And just like that he took his leave. Her cheeks flushed, her knuckles showed but after calming herself stepped out of the carriage. The mansion they were was much grander than Jarren's. Servants could be seen scurrying around, tending to their duties.

The head butler awaited the pair, leading them inside to witness the lavish and refined halls that screamed opulence. No speck of dust could be seen, everything gleaming with hubris and wealth. Jarren's parents, his father a noble and his mother a renowned business merchant waited for him at the main hall.

It wasn't just the pair but a brother of his, the second as well who wasted no time giving him a hug whilst ruffing his hair. "It's been a while, little brother." Thalen Velros chuckled as Jarren escaped his grasp, his face unamused. "It certainly has, making me wish that it should have been longer."

Thalen laughed, taking it as a joke but Clomere could tell that Jarren wasn't jesting. "I've heard that you've finally chosen to wield an element after all this time." Jarren's father, Lord Caldreth Velros spoke. His tone stern as his hazy black beady eyes landed on Jarren.

"Why don't we talk this over dinner?" Quick to defuse the tense atmosphere, Lady Elyria Velros swopped in. "I am quite famished after trip." Leading the way Thalen made his way followed by Caldreth who remained his icy demeanor. Elyria cast a warm glance at her son as she urged him to follow him.

Clomere had long excused herself.

The table was brimming with all kinds of delicacies. From local to exotic dishes, all were tantalizing to look at and dine. Thalen ate to his content while Elyria watched the war that ensued between the duo. Jarren completely callous while Caldreth's sharp gaze never left his figure.

"So do you mind explaining as to why you would choose parlor tricks like shadow as an element rather than pyro. With your two older brothers already wielding the Flame Cresent Moonlight, what makes you think that you can abandon tradition and choose shadow." The Velros lineage was known for it's pyromancy flames, the Flame Cresent being their pride and honor.

A tradition that dated back as far as they could remember and now out of the blue Jarren opted to pick shadow as his elemental. "Because the Flame Cresent Moonlight is way too mundane and bland for my taste. I prefer a challenge and shadow was my cup of tea."

His tone unruly as he dug into his meal. A tender chicken that had been seasoned to perfection. "What?!" Caldreth roared, his face mired with fury and anger. "Don't think because you've chosen a rare element that makes you special. After all shadow is known for stealth and parlor tricks brother. You can only go so far before it falls short. Pyro is better."

Thalen urged as he washed down a piece with fine wine. His face stern. "Oh please, he can be a duel elementalist. Dabbling in shadow and pyro, isn't that right sweetie?" Elyria once more playing the middle ground spoke. "No mother, pyro is way too flashy and loud. The shadows suit me better. Besides with puppeteering it's obsolete."

Thalen paused. "You're a puppeteer? You just keep making more and more short-sighted decisions. Puppeteering is meant for mages who watch from the sides, barely contributing in the fight. Not to mention with your focus on a dummy, it makes you susceptible to other kinds of attacks like illusions, poison and indiscernible threats."

"Once your shadow vanishes it's over. Besides all it takes to dispell shadow is a light of sorts like fire or light element. Dumb decision on your end brother but you could pair it with fire greatly increasing your inclusion in the fight." Thalen advised as he sunk his teeth into a steak.

"The Darkness element has a select few participants for a reason darling. If your opponent has a wide ranged attack then stealth is pointless even if you manipulate shadows like puppets." Elyria knew that shielding Jarren wasn't an option and now she could only hope to rope him in with the elemental flaws

"No son of mine will be some pathetic puppeteer watching from the sides merely stalling for time hoping to turn the tides with puppets!" All the servants in the room fell silent, not daring to make move and yet the one addressed was ignorant as ever. "The Flame Cresent Moonlight already has it's bearers father so there is no need to stress yourself too much."

Jarren mused, taking a sip from his goblet with his lazy eyes and playful smile. "You will head go to school and correct this error! If not then I will not hesitate to disown you! Just because you won a fight with that trash acquaintance of yours makes you think that you're invincible?!"

Rising to his feet, Caldreth stormed out of the room. His chest heaving greatly while Elyria gave chase. "You should reconsider your options brother. And congratulations on breaking into the Iron Strider rank but there's more to do." Thalen too took his leave and shortly after so did Jarren.

He wandered through the garden present, looking at the moonlight sky casting it's radiant reflection at the still pond. He let out a sigh, his figure drowning in solace as a thought crept into his mind.

"Please do come in." Elyria urged to which she saw her son walk in. A smile she never saw leave his face present. "Do you have any idea what you just did? It would be better for you to abandon Darkness as an element and choose Pyro. I know that you want to do it but for your father's sake and mind change it."

Dressed in loose night robes, her figure came into full view. Her seductive waist, her ample breasts held back by the thin fabric as her nipples poked lightly, Jarren drew closer to her. "But mother, I promise that darkness is fitting for me. Not because I'm a puppeteer means that I'll be weak as a mage. I already broke through the second rank as a knight."

Elyria gave a long deep sigh as Jarren now stood a few feet away from him. She cupped his face, her tone filled with warmth. "I know darling and I'm proud of you but please reconsider. After all facing your father's wrath is pointless if not detrimental to your future."

His hands rested on her hips and came in for a hug which she welcomed, her mounds pressing onto his chest. "Can I sleep with you? Given that father's gone." His voice a whisper. "Very well, just take off your coat." Breaking from his embrace, she mused as she made her way to the bed. Without delay he did as told and lay next to his mother.

"Thanks mom and goodnight." His last words echoed through the barely lit room before wrapping his arms around her figure. She noted how his hands had roamed way lower than they should during his hug and now his hands pressed her stomach closing the distance between the two.

'Hah! I guess you still have to grow up.' Before she fell asleep, she felt it. Positioned between her legs, his member roared to life crushed by the flesh of her thighs. She wanted to break apart from his embrace but he was fast asleep.

Thinking nothing of it she tried to force herself to sleep but a cheeky poke jolted hee awake. His cock was now dancing, slowly shifting and ever so lightly poked her folds making her body shudder. Unable to take it anymore, she slowly removed his arm off her waist and lay on her back facing the ceiling.

Once again before sleep could find her, his arm roped her in. His mumbles faint as his arm was nestled between her supple mounds. 'Jarren! How cheeky can you be?!' She screamed in her mind as she waited for sleep to find her. With how frequent he would tease her, the thin veil of slumber would always be shattered before it claimed her mind.

"What do you mean Jarren's not deceased?!" An irritated voice echoed through a dimly lit room. "I'm sorry my lady but the assassin has already nestled herself at his parents. When he takes off tomorrow, she'll make sure that she kills him and brings his head." The latter was shaken, breaking into an apologetic bow.

"Use distance to your advantage, I want him to reach the school gates as a ghost." The former voice shot, unamused with the report. "Of course, as you wish my lady." And with that the door opened and closed shortly after. A glass of fine wine drifted tl the lady's hand with her eyes locked onto the moon lit sky.

"Oh dear Jarren, you have no idea what you've gotten yourself into." Her voice a murmur speaking to no one.
