Chapter 298: Tsunade: The Frontline Commander Went AWOL? Beautifully Done!
Nara Medical Research Institute.
After finishing the last document on her desk, Tsunade tossed her pen down and gave a huge, lazy stretch. Her loose, pure-white lab coat couldn't quite conceal the impressive assets that threatened to burst out.
"Ugh, my shoulders are so sore!"
Tsunade rubbed her aching shoulders, then began considering which izakaya she'd visit tonight for a few small cups.
Ever since being thoroughly "educated" a few times by a certain young man, Princess Tsunade had barely managed to correct her binge-drinking habit.
But as the saying goes, binge-drinking is harmful, while a small drink is a pleasure. Tsunade had quit drinking, but she hadn't completely quit.
And with the help of "just a little" alcohol, she could temporarily ignore all the bullshit and dirty business in the village, while also soothing the worry and longing in her heart.
"Why am I thinking of that guy again…" Tsunade lightly patted her charming, delicate cheeks, trying to calm herself down.
Just then, a familiar voice she often dreamed of rang out in the office.
"Sorry to interrupt, but the 'that guy' you mentioned... that would be me, right?"
"Hm?"
Tsunade's eyes went cold. Her gaze shot toward an empty area of the office as she silently gathered her chakra.
"Don't attack!"
Nara Keisuke deactivated the Shadow Invisibility Technique, his figure appearing in the air. He raised both hands high in a classic surrender pose.
"It's me…"
"Nara?"
Tsunade did not lower her guard. In fact, her willow-like brows knitted together tightly. "Aren't you supposed to be in the Land of Hot Water?"
"It's really me…" Nara Keisuke could clearly sense Tsunade still molding her chakra, so he had no choice but to use one of his signature jutsu. "Look at my eyes."
Genjutsu: Lacquer Eye!
A dark layer of shadow bloomed in Nara Keisuke's eyes. His gaze met Tsunade's in mid-air, and his Yin Release chakra poured into her.
Tsunade's vision blurred, and she found herself in a genjutsu space.
"It sounds bad when I say it like this, but the situation is..." Nara Keisuke stood before Tsunade and shrugged. "I secretly slipped back from the front lines."
Through this unique "black-eye genjutsu," Tsunade confirmed Nara Keisuke's identity. But upon hearing his words, she couldn't help but take a large step forward.
"You bastard!"
Tsunade had intended to smash Keisuke with one punch, but her fist stopped halfway. In the end, she couldn't bring herself to do it. Her fist turned into a claw, and she seized him by the collar.
"The war isn't over, and you, the Supreme Frontline Commander, actually went AWOL?!"
"No need to put it so harshly~" Nara Keisuke grinned, sliding his hands around Tsunade's soft, full waist.
"The fighting in the Land of Hot Water is pretty much over. It's been a long time since any enemy has come near.
"Besides, I'm not 'AWOL.' Did you forget I have the Flying Thunder God Technique? If the situation changes, I can return to the Land of Hot Water instantly."
Smack!
An unhappy Tsunade slapped his arms away. Even in the genjutsu space, the sound was loud.
"I think you've lost your mind! The Flying Thunder God Technique has a huge chakra cost, and the distance from Kikyo Castle to the Land of Hot Water is so far. Is your chakra endless? Can you afford to be so wasteful?"
Nara Keisuke really wanted to say that he had already improved the Flying Thunder God Technique, and his Flying Thunder God: Shadow Flow Blade's chakra cost wasn't nearly as severe as Tobirama Senju's original version.
But any man with a working brain knows one truth: never, ever try to reason with a girl when she's angry.
A little-known Konoha fact: Princess Tsunade is, indeed, a "girl." At least, for now.
"Actually, I came back this time because I have something important to show you," Nara Keisuke quickly changed the subject.
"It's not something I can explain in a genjutsu space. Let's go to the underground lab!"
The moment his voice fell, the genjutsu space collapsed, and Tsunade's consciousness returned to her body.
"This time?"
Tsunade's eyes flew wide as she stared at the empty spot where Nara Keisuke had been, ready to question him.
"You mean you've come back several times before?"
You came back all those times, and this is the first time you've come to see me?!
However, her question met no reply.
The moment he ended the Genjutsu: Lacquer Eye, Nara Keisuke had immediately used the Flying Thunder God: Shadow Flow Blade to return to the underground lab.
"That little bastard!"
Tsunade ground her silver teeth and clenched her fists.
Not long after, the Head of the Medical Department stormed into the underground research institute.
Ignoring the little orange cat kept there, Tsunade headed straight for the basement. Her ferocious posture made Miss Pakura, who was reading intently nearby, jump in fright.
"Are those two... going to fight?"
Pakura felt very worried, completely losing the mood to read her spicy novel.
"If they really fight... will I have to move? What a pain."
"Nara! Get out here! Explain yourself!"
Tsunade's shout echoed through the underground lab. Down here, she no longer had to suppress her anger.
"I do, in fact, need to explain."
Nara Keisuke played dumb. He picked up a mask from a research table, channeled the chakra within, and released a seemingly ordinary A-Rank ninjutsu.
[Wood Release: Silent Killing Binding Technique]!
A tough, sturdy wooden beam shot out from the [Wood Release Mask] in Nara Keisuke's hand, flying across the lab to arrive in front of Tsunade.
The moment she saw this Wood Release jutsu being released by Nara Keisuke, Tsunade was so stunned she forgot to dodge, and was immediately bound on the spot by the arm-thick wooden beam.
As the jutsu's caster, Nara Keisuke could have manipulated the shape of the [Silent Killing Binding Technique] however he wished.
But out of respect for Tsunade's raw power, Nara Keisuke didn't attempt any bold shibari-style bindings, opting for the most conventional wrap.
"W-Wood Release?"
Tsunade looked down at the brown wooden beam binding her, her voice stuttering.
"Nara, this isn't something to joke about."
"I wouldn't fake something like this."
Nara Keisuke knew Tsunade's anger had completely subsided. He dispelled the [Silent Killing Binding Technique], and the wooden beam, formed from Wood Release chakra, slowly dissipated into the air.
"Matter" created from pure chakra, once it lost its chakra supply, would not remain in the world, but would slowly disappear. This was true for rocks made by Earth Style or floods made by Water Style. As for the formless gales, lightning, and flames, they weren't "matter" to begin with, but pure energy.
Of course, not all jutsu disappeared after losing their chakra support.
For example, the large tree in the lab that had been grown from White Zetsu cells was still growing well. Though it lacked sunlight, the ever-present natural energy filled that gap. At least for now, that tree showed no signs of dying or withering.
"Remember our agreement?"
Nara Keisuke found the pre-prepared scroll on the research table and handed it to Tsunade.
"The Wood Release... I've researched it."
