I walk through the glass doors of Ace Corporation with a spring in my step, still floating from this morning with Noah. The coffee tastes better today. The sun seems brighter through the office windows. Even my heels clicking against the marble floors sound more confident.
Madison Grant, my assistant, looks up from her desk with poorly concealed worry. "Good morning, Ms. Hayes. The senior executives are waiting in the conference room."
My good mood doesn't falter. "Let them wait five more minutes. I need to check my messages first."
I stride into my corner office, taking a moment to appreciate the view of Manhattan spread out below. Whatever mess Gabriel created online, it feels manageable today. Everything feels manageable when you wake up next to the right person.
My phone buzzes with a text from Noah: *"How are you holding up?"*
I reply quickly: *"Better than expected. Armor is on."*
*"That's my girl. Call if you need backup."*
