"Yes," I say without hesitation. "We're sure."
Chloe nods quickly. "Completely sure."
Mr. Jay looks between us one final time, then stamps the documents with official finality. The sound echoes in the small office like a gavel falling.
"Then you're free to go. The decree is effective immediately."
We walk out of the City Clerk's office in silence. The night air feels different somehow. Colder. More empty.
At the curb, Chloe stops and turns to me. "So this is it."
"This is it."
"Three years." She shakes her head. "Gone just like that."
"You're the one who threw it away."
"We both made mistakes, Noah."
"I never cheated. I never killed our baby."
Her jaw tightens. "I'm not killing anything. I'm making a choice."
"Whatever helps you sleep at night."
She pulls out her phone, probably calling Gabriel for a ride. Then she looks at me again.
"You know what the worst part is?" she says. "I actually loved you once."
