The assistant looks up from her computer screen with a polite but guarded expression. She's young, probably fresh out of college, with the kind of eager-to-please demeanor that screams inexperience.
"I'm sorry, but Mr. Lancaster isn't available for visitors without an appointment."
I lean forward, placing my designer handbag on her desk with just enough force to make my point. "I think you misunderstood me. I'm Chloe Bennett-Donovan. My family has significant business dealings with this company."
Her eyes widen slightly at the mention of my name. Good. The Bennett name still carries weight, even here.
"Of course, Mrs. Donovan. But I still need to check with Miss Hayes before—"
"That won't be necessary." I smile sweetly. "Where exactly is Mr. Lancaster right now?"
"I... I'm not supposed to give out that information."
