The pounding on my suite door shattered the peaceful silence like a sledgehammer through glass. I'd just stepped out of the shower, steam still rising from my skin as I wrapped a plush hotel robe around my waist. The hot water had washed away the stress of the day, leaving me refreshed and ready for whatever the evening might bring.
But apparently, the evening had other plans.
"Noah Lancaster!" The voice pierced through the reinforced door with unmistakable fury. "Open this door right now!"
I froze, my hand halfway to the towel draped over my shoulders. That voice. I knew that voice better than any other sound in the world. Three years of marriage had burned every inflection, every tone, every emotional variation into my memory.
