The words hung in the air between us like a challenge. Roman Sterling watched my face carefully, probably trying to read my reaction.
"You want me to train your soldiers," I said.
"More than that. I want you to lead them. Shape them. Transform them from good soldiers into something unprecedented."
I looked down at the training floor again. The Dragon Soul operatives moved with precision and power that would impress most people. But I could see their limitations. Their rigid thinking. Their reliance on techniques rather than true understanding.
"I work alone," I said.
"I know. But the threats we're facing require more than one man, no matter how powerful."
Roman pulled up another video on his tablet. This one showed grainy footage of something that made my blood run cold. Figures in black robes moving through what looked like a massacre site. Bodies everywhere. Regular soldiers, torn apart like paper.
