『Gray』: "Uh… Carl?"
Seeing Carl vanish before her eyes, Gray turned to Brunhilde in surprise.
『Gray』: "Elder Sister, Carl disappeared!"
『Brunhilde』: nodding "Most likely he's gone to find the gods on the roster."
『Gray』: "Huh?"
She blinked, stunned.
『Gray』: "Carl wouldn't actually… kill them, would he?"
『Brunhilde』: "He should."
『Gray』: "Th-this…"
Gray didn't even know what to say.
Those lofty, untouchable gods,
had they now become targets to be slaughtered at will?
Suddenly, Brunhilde gave a soft cry of surprise.
『Brunhilde』: "So fast!"
Xiaoming too showed a look of shock.
Both of them had just heard the alert chime of the group chat.
[Ding! Group System Notification: Carl has defeated the gods.]
Seeing this, Brunhilde and Xiaoming instantly understood:
Carl had already taken care of the divine fighters.
At least two of them were gone,
enough to secure humanity's seventh victory.
Even though it wasn't a win fought in the arena,
a dead god was still a defeated one.
Failure to appear counted as a loss.
Gray, who wasn't part of the chat, looked confused.
『Gray』: "Elder Sister Brunhilde, what are you talking about? What's so fast?"
『Brunhilde』: "I mean Carl, "
She stopped short, eyes going wide.
Carl had reappeared beside them without a sound.
『Gray』: "Carl?"
『Gray』: "Carl, what happened?"
『Carl』: smiling "Nothing much. Just dealt with a few small fry."
『Gray』: "Eh?"
Her eyes widened.
『Gray』: "Carl… you're back."
『Carl』: nodding "Mm."
『Brunhilde』: "Carl, forgive my curiosity, but… which gods did you deal with?"
Her tone carried genuine interest.
For her, the more gods that died, the better.
Xiaoming too leaned closer, waiting for the answer.
『Carl』: "Susanoo. Bishamonten. Anubis. Beelzebub."
『Carl』: "As for Shakyamuni, who fights for humanity, and Heracles, who loves humanity, I left them be."
『Carl』: "Apollo too, I did not kill."
『Brunhilde』: "So many!"
She was shocked.
Originally, Carl only needed to defeat two more gods to complete the task.
Yet he had slain four,
and in just seconds.
From the moment Carl left until his return,
barely a few heartbeats had passed.
They had exchanged only a handful of lines,
and Carl was already back.
Xiaoming wasn't particularly surprised.
After all, he had already witnessed Carl wipe out tens of thousands of gods in an instant.
Compared to that, four or five hardly seemed worth mentioning.
But Gray was utterly shaken.
As a Valkyrie,
she knew very well what kind of beings Carl had just named.
Every one of them was a formidable god.
Some of them were even supreme existences within their own pantheons.
And Carl had killed them all in mere seconds.
How could she not be shocked?
『Gray』: thinking This Carl… he's truly terrifyingly strong.
Where in the world did Elder Sister even find him?
『Carl』: turning to Xiaoming "The task's complete now. When will you leave?"
『Xiaoming』: "Leave?"
He blinked, then nodded slowly.
『Xiaoming』: "Right. The task's done. We really should be going."
He had originally thought he might get to participate in one match of Ragnarok.
But the mission had ended so abruptly,
it was like preparing for a grand tournament, only to have the match canceled at the last minute.
A little disappointing.
Still, this trip wasn't wasted.
He'd met numerous gods, and earned over five hundred points.
『Xiaoming』: smiling wryly "Guess I just tagged along for the ride. Not bad."
Then a thought struck him, and he frowned.
『Xiaoming』: "But wait. If we just leave like this… what if the remaining gods retaliate against humanity?"
It wasn't impossible.
Though Carl had slaughtered most of them,
a handful of powerful gods still remained.
For humans, their strength was overwhelming.
Retaliation couldn't be ruled out.
『Carl』: nodding "True. That is a problem."
If they left today and humanity was annihilated tomorrow,
that would indeed sit poorly with him.
The simplest solution would be to kill every last god,
but Carl didn't want to do that.
Some gods hadn't even appeared in the arena.
And among the divine, there were a few who genuinely cared for humanity,
like Shakyamuni and Heracles.
Carl thought for a moment,
then stirred the power of space.
The next instant,
a frail, bandage-wrapped figure appeared before them.
Zeus.
His entire body was swathed in gauze,
his frame gaunt and withered.
Startled, he looked around in confusion.
He had been resting in the lounge.
How had he suddenly appeared here?
After his battle with Adam,
Zeus had gone for treatment.
But he had kept tabs on the arena,
and in fact, it was at his instigation, through Hermes, that the gods had been urged to attack Carl.
He knew everything that had transpired.
And that knowledge filled him with fear.
This human had power far beyond his own.
When Zeus saw Carl standing there,
his heart clenched tight.
Carl had slain Poseidon, Odin, and tens of thousands of gods.
And now Carl had summoned him here,
to kill him too?
Should he resist?
What should he do?
While Zeus quailed in dread,
Carl suddenly spoke.
『Carl』: "Calm yourself."
『Carl』: "I brought you here to talk about humanity."
Zeus wiped the sweat from his brow, silent.
『Carl』: "As for humans, I hope you gods won't do anything unnecessary."
『Carl』: "Like trying to wipe them out, for instance."
Zeus stiffened, then nodded rapidly.
『Zeus』: "Understood. We gods will no longer interfere with humanity."
Inside, he exhaled in relief.
The old schemer knew,
if Carl wanted him dead, he'd have already acted.
Why bother summoning him only to talk?
That meant Carl had no intention of killing him.
Zeus's heart settled somewhat.
『Zeus』: thinking Thank the heavens I never struck at him.
Thank the heavens he wasn't my opponent.
Otherwise, I'd already be dead.
