Chapter 132 - Ten Minutes

The sand garden sat empty except for Easter, who'd been standing directly under the noon sun for the better part of an hour, willing his own body to betray him.

Come on. Overheat. Do something.

Nothing happened. His skin prickled with sweat, his shirt clung uncomfortably to his back, but the dizzy, dangerous heat he needed never came. If anything, he just felt thirsty and a little annoyed at himself for underestimating how stubborn his own body could be.

He kicked at the sand, scowling. Daniel's plan had sounded so simple over the radio. Get some sun, buy yourself a fever. Nobody had mentioned that his body apparently had other ideas.

By the time the afternoon bell called him back inside, Easter had given up on nature doing the work for him.

Fine. Plan B.
