Leonardo's POV
The office felt too quiet this morning.
I sat in my work chair, facing the large window that overlooked Avellyn's tall buildings. Usually, that view helped clear my thoughts. Today, my mind felt blank and my chest felt heavy.
Two cups of coffee sat on my desk.
One was already cold.
The other hadn't been touched at all.
I spun my pen between my fingers, then dropped it onto the desk without realizing.
Tap.
There was a single knock before my office door opened.
Sebastian walked in, closed the door behind him, then leaned against it like he always did, far too relaxed for someone who had helped cause a mess.
"So," he asked, "how was last night? Was Valerie really mad?"
I let out a long breath before answering.
"Annoyed," I said. "Very."
Sebastian winced. "Okay. Noted."
I leaned back in my chair, stared at the ceiling for a moment, then looked forward again.
"She said someone sent her a weird message," I continued. "An unknown number."
