Chapter 16 - green invasion

Mari quickly ran into an alleyway to transform into her Raven gear. As she sprinted forward, her casual clothes vanished in a flash of red, replaced by a black, intricately designed armor that covered her entire body from head to toe. The armor radiated an aura of invincibility—like nothing in the world could break through it.

Her golden eyes shifted to a deep crimson, glowing like pools of blood, with a strange pinwheel design swirling at their center.

Mari raised her hand. Frost coiled around her pale fingers like smoke, solidifying into a shimmering white mist that contrasted with the obsidian plating of her gauntlet. With a flick of her wrist, the ice surged forward and formed a solid bridge of frozen light, rising like a ramp in front of her.

Without hesitation, she sprinted across the ice bridge, scaling the height of a nearby building. As she reached the top, she launched herself into the air, spotting the area where the alien invasion was unfolding below.

Midair, her body shifted again—this time morphing into the shape of a bat—and with blinding speed, she flew straight through the chaos, weaving through the commotion with precise, sharp movements.

As she flew toward the location, something with inhuman speed zipped past her, startling her for a split second. She barely caught a glimpse of the blur—a figure in a blue and yellow suit. She recognized it instantly: Invincible. And from the way he was flying, it looked like he was carrying someone.

But that wasn't her concern right now.

Below, she saw a group of superheroes struggling against the invading enemy forces. They were being overwhelmed fast.

"Looks like I have to help them, don't I?" she thought, sighing as she released her transformed state, reverting back into her human form mid-air.

As she plummeted toward the ground, Raven moved her hand with practiced precision. Out of the air, she conjured over a thousand ice shards—each sharp and deadly like a finely honed blade—and launched them downward with deadly accuracy toward the Flaxans below her.

Most of her ice shards hit their targets dead in the face, dropping several enemies instantly. A few missed, but that wasn't a problem.

With a thunderous crash, she landed on the ground, the sheer impact of her fall cracking and breaking the concrete beneath her feet. Dust and debris shot outward in a small shockwave.

Without wasting a second, she conjured two blazing red flame orbs beside her—burning hot and humming with power. With a swift motion, she launched herself forward using the explosive force of the flames, rocketing straight toward the towering war machine at the center of the enemy army.

The cries of agony could be heard from the enemy as they burned alive inside the machine, but Raven didn't stop. She slammed hand into the ground, preparing for another attack—until everything suddenly changed.

Without warning, the enemy soldiers began to turn grey, their bodies aging rapidly before her eyes, like time itself had fast-forwarded. Within seconds, they were retreating in panic and confusion.

A stunned silence fell over the group of heroes on the battlefield, who could only stare at the bizarre phenomenon.

"Did you do that?" one of the heroes asked, his voice a mix of disbelief and shock.

Raven turned toward the speaker and realized it was none other than Rex Splode. Standing beside him was Atom Eve, casually dusting off her clothes like this kind of chaos was just another Tuesday.

This was the first time Raven had met them. She hesitated for a moment, unsure how to interact—should she be respectful since they were more experienced, or just act like herself and go with the flow?

"No, that wasn't me," she replied, trying to sound chill and carefree.

"Huh. You're that new hero, right? The one getting more attention than we are?" Rex asked, squinting like he was trying to recall a tabloid headline. He stepped in a little too close for comfort, ignoring her personal space.

Before reaven could say anything, Atom Eve reached over and yanked Rex by the ear, pulling him back with a sharp glare. Then she turned to Raven with a small, apologetic smile.

"Sorry about him."

"Uh—uh, no problem," Raven said, extending her hand toward Atom Eve with a small smile. "My hero name is Raven, by the way."

"Atom Eve," she replied, shaking her hand. Her eyes narrowed slightly. "You look familiar… like I've seen you somewhere before."

Raven chuckled lightly, brushing it off with a casual shake of her head. "You're probably mistaken. I mean, where else would you see someone with white hair like mine?"

Eve gave her a thoughtful look but didn't press further, her gaze drifting away briefly like something was tugging at the back of her mind.

"Hmmm, I still think I've seen you somewhere before, but where—that's the question," Atom Eve said, resting her chin thoughtfully on her hand.

"Don't think about it too much. Isn't thinking the mind killer?" Raven said, chuckling nervously.

"I'm pretty sure that's not how it goes," a mechanical voice interrupted from the side.

"That is, and you," Raven replied, nodding toward the speaker with a small smirk, "Robot."

"Robot," he said in his mechanical tone.

Reven," she said.

"Kate," the duplicate girl replied.

"Well, I think I'll leave now. Looks like we have the situation under control, so bye," Revan said, without waiting for a response. She turned into a bat and flew off.

"Why does she call herself Revan if she's a bat most of the time?" Rex commented.

Robot didn't respond, just stared at the place where Revan had transformed and flown away.

"Oh, I think I remember," Atom Eve said — but then realized Revan was already gone.
