Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 Archive Log 37.5 End of the Tour

The fourth attraction was similar to the one with gravity manipulation, in that it also had carved energy lines and symbols. But instead on the floor, the lines were carved atop an upright slab of rock the height of three of that race's average members.

A thick carved line starting from the top ran across its middle, taking at least two parts of its height. Near it and at an even distance from each other, there were carved symbols, hinting this slab of rock to be some kind of scale; a tool for measuring something. At its lowest part, near the height of a regular member's chest, there was a palm shaped depression, its function a mystery to me.

The two hosts waiting for me, both white haired too, were standing on the two sides of the stone slab, looking at me without speaking. They didn't even react to my presence, not until my guide went forward and spoke to them.

After a hushed and short conversation between them, one of the white-haired hosts began to show me what to do in this attraction.

Following their instructions, I slowly placed my palm in the depression, eager to witness its function. The two hosts and my guide stared at me by the side, weirdly looking eager to see too.

I wasn't sure of why they were so much interested in what was supposed to happen when they had already seen it multiple times before, but I continued with my try of the attraction, nonetheless.

My palm was in the depression, and after waiting a couple of moments, the palm shaped depression underneath started to glow with the same light as all the other lines and symbols I encountered so far.

After the palm print was filled with the azure light, the light followed upwards the straight carved line at the middle of the slab.

It slowly rose, filling the line steadily and reaching the first symbols' height. After the symbols lit up too, the light continued its path up, filling whatever was carved in its way.

Halfway to the top, I heard whispers next to me. The two hosts with my guide were speaking with each other, probably commenting on the scale's progress.

When two thirds of it was lit up with the light, they produced gasps and stopped talking. I knew then that I had most likely reached some kind of benchmark.

A strange feeling came over me, which told me this attraction was some kind of reward gaining event if I had good results. And the higher the light lit the line and symbols, the more chances I would get to earn that reward.

I was really getting into it by that point, waiting for the light to reach the top, to get whatever they gave me and have it as a souvenir.

When the light reached the top and all the symbols with the line were lit, I didn't hear anything from them. Glancing at them, all three were petrified on their spots with their mouths hung open.

'Yes, I won!'

Looking at them, I knew I was right. Managing to light everything all the way to the top was a significant accomplishment to be made, and which, it was obvious to see from their expression, they didn't expect someone to reach it, or it wasn't usually reached.

The next moment, my guide fell to his knees, his expression full of incredibility. One of the white-haired hosts fainted on the spot while the other ran off to the distance, his hands flailing around his body as if he didn't have the state of mind to control them.

His willingness to go get my reward as soon as possible truly moved me. If I was a mortal like them, I would have liquid streaming down my eyes by now.

I was standing next to the kneeling guide and the fainted host, prepared to wait as long as it took for him to bring my reward. But to my surprise, he came back fairly quick. And instead of carrying with him my expected reward, he brought along another white-haired male member of his race.

Despite my slight disappointment, I didn't let it ruin my mood and focused on learning the reason the new white-haired person was brought here.

He had pretty much the same body size as the other ones, his hair was white as the other elders of the race, and he didn't seem to possess any extra physical feature that would differentiate him from the others.

The only differences I could detect he had from the others, were that his posture was straight instead of bent or hunched, his white hair were whiter and cleaner, and his skin was rosier and with less wrinkles. He was clearly an important and of a higher rank individual of the race.

'Oh, they have someone important awarding the rewards!' was my thought a little before they reached me.

When they stopped in front of me, I saw the important person looking at the kneeling guide and the fainted elder. He frantically pointed at them and told the elder who brought him something.

What followed was the elder calling some others for help and together they took the fainted one somewhere; to his quarters I presumed so he could rest on a bed and not on the floor.

Then, the important elder asked for the papers from my kneeling guide. After he got them, he studied them for a while, his eyes steadily opening further the more he read. Finishing with the papers, he handed them back to my guide and faced me again with a serious expression.

Right after, his expression changed at once. He was all smiles as he began speaking to me and making gestures, all the while nodding his head or rubbing his long white chin hair periodically.

He went on for a while with his speech, almost making me feel bored with how much he had to say, but fortunately he stopped and saved the good impression I formed about his race.

With the speech having finished, I was waiting for my rewards, but even after a while the important elder didn't give me anything.

I really wanted my souvenir so I could conclude this amazing tour with something related to the energy these people used. That's why I decided to take the initiative.

"Cough!" I produced the universal sound for gaining attention while I stretched my hand forward and kept closing my four fingers inwards. These movements also had the same meaning in most of the sentient races.

The elder looked at my gestures and then opened his mouth while making an exaggerated movement, with his head leaning backwards and his two hair lines above his eyes moving upwards. I knew from that expression that he understood me.

And I was right. He immediately called for someone further at the back, and after a while a black-haired female came to him carrying a few things in her arms. After passing them to the elder, I was again left alone with him - oh, and with my guide at the side - and I fixated my gaze upon my potential rewards and souvenirs in his arms.

"Cough!" A sound distracted me from my staring. It was the elder, and he used the same attention call I used on him.

'What a joker he was.'

After gaining my attention he began speaking again. Thankfully this time it was not for long and his speech was accompanied by the reward items he passed to me slowly one at a time.

Grabbing each one of them, I studied them in detail. In total there were four of them.

One was a sword, just like the ones I saw being used by this race to fly on, with carved symbols on its body. The second one was a leather pouch filled with azure crystals, the same crystals I absorbed in one of the attractions. The third one was a rectangular piece of wood, with one of its surfaces having the same carved symbols I have seen almost everywhere, but of new shapes and glowing azure at all times.

The last one was a thick stack of folded papers right at their middle and of hard leather exterior. Opening it, its shape closely resembled my Archive Log but of different material and without my power enveloping it. It had tiny symbols written in lines inside it with some drawings depicting this race's body shape, sitting or standing, accompanying them.

'The flying device is interesting, and the crystals filled with the unknown energy necessary for research. About the piece of wood...honestly, I don't have a clue about its function. And finally, the stack papers with the symbols and drawings in it.' Ah, that was the most precious of them, even if my primary goal was the energy.

As a recorder myself, I didn't need to know their written language to figure out that what was written and depicted inside the papers resembled a record of something very important and vital about their race and their way of life.

An item like that was worth more than all the other three items would, even if their worth was combined. It was truly a unique treasure I earned and was gifted with on this amazing tour.

Having at last received my souvenirs and gained a gratifying end for my visit, it was time for me to leave. I looked at the elder with all the thanks I could give him with my silent gaze and safeguarded the items I had been given, except the stack papers of course; studying its contents on the way would be just right for passing the time.

With a satisfied smile etched upon my face, I stepped into the void while already flipping the papers in fascination.
