*Chapter 33: Kamar-Taj*

Year: 1982

Location: Nepal, Monastery

Monks moved quietly throughout the monastery grounds, their calm footsteps echoing beneath ancient trees. Some practiced fluid tai chi forms under the soft autumn sunlight, their movements a dance of grace and power. Others were deeply engrossed in reading sacred scriptures, the rustle of parchment blending with birdsong. The air carried a serene stillness, punctuated only by the occasional soft chant or the rustling of robes.

Pluto stood by his modest quarters, gathering his few belongings. His pack was light—just the essential clothes and a small satchel containing some treasured scriptures. He felt a stirring in his chest, a quiet certainty that the long search for Kamar-Taj was finally coming to an end.

Over the past few days, many members of the Timeless Phantom had begun retreating from their duties. Such a mass withdrawal only happened when a monumental discovery was made. The signs were clear: Kamar-Taj's location was no longer a mystery.

With a final glance around the tranquil courtyard, Pluto bowed respectfully before heading to meet the head monk.

"Greetings, Head Monk," Pluto said, bowing slightly in respect.

The head monk nodded in return, his face calm and gentle. "Greetings to you as well, Pluto."

Pluto's voice was steady but carried a hint of urgency. "I have decided to leave the monastery. There is an urgent matter within my family that calls for my attention."

Though the words were a slight falsehood, Pluto showed no change in expression. The Timeless Phantom and Evolex were his family, and this journey was his duty.

The head monk studied him briefly before nodding. "Very well. May the blessings and mercy of Buddha and the gods accompany you. Remember, even as you descend into the world, do not neglect your daily practice—reading the scriptures, your tai chi forms, and meditation."

"I will, senior," Pluto promised respectfully.

As he walked away from the head monk's quarters, Pluto sought out his friends and comrades within the monastery. He shared his intention to leave, exchanging quiet farewells with those who had become his brothers in practice.

---

After the brief farewells, Pluto slipped away from the monastery and moved toward a secluded alley not far from the village. A shadow passed over his senses—he felt a presence watching him.

His instincts flared, ready to strike, but the watcher's aura was strong and vigorous—ancient, almost like the low rumble of a youthful elephant. It was not the faint tremor he had sensed around Tashi.

He concluded it was likely a high-ranking member of the Timeless Phantom, sent to verify the location of Kamar-Taj.

*But who? Uruk, Illias, Seraphine, Anara, Karl… or one of the elusive pseudo apostles?* Pluto mused silently.

He chose patience, waiting for the figure to reveal themselves.

As the lord entered the alley's shadowed end, he knew his presence was no longer hidden. Slowly, Illias stepped out, his movements as fluid and confident as a shadow itself.

---

"Greetings, my lord. You are as observant as ever," Illias said with a respectful bow.

"And you are growing more skilled at blending with the shadows," Pluto replied with a calm smile.

"That is our way, my lord. The shadow is our tool, an extension of our will," Illias said smoothly.

"So, where is the report?" Pluto asked, his voice steady.

Illias handed over a thick file. "Here it is, my lord."

Pluto skimmed the contents briefly, then looked up. "Illias, how do you wish to be rewarded?"

Illias hesitated, then asked carefully, "What are my options, my lord?"

"You may use this for merit toward your next blood serum upgrade, though it will only count as one-tenth of what is required. Alternatively, you may select someone to become a pseudo apostle, or promote a pseudo apostle to full apostle status. If you choose the latter, you can found your own faction or organization."

Pluto watched Illias closely, knowing full well what choice he would make.

---

"I choose the second option," Illias said after a deep breath, accepting that the merit credit would be far less but the political gain greater.

Pluto handed him a broken but elegant watch and a vial of blood. "This watch grants the bearer the ability to ascend from 9th rank disciple to pseudo apostle, or from pseudo apostle to apostle. The blood is necessary to found your own faction—Timeless Phantom would never allow you to take it otherwise."

Illias accepted the gifts reverently. "Thank you, my lord. But I would ask one favor."

"Speak freely, Illias the Great," Pluto teased gently. The two shared a warm camaraderie, forged over years of friendship and training.

"I am unsure what to name my new organization," Illias confessed, relaxing slightly.

---

Pluto pondered briefly before answering. "Let me say… *Obsidian Pact*."

Illias's eyes brightened. "*Obsidian Pact*… That name holds weight. It implies strength forged in darkness, an unbreakable alliance. I will take it."

"I hope it serves you well." Pluto said

Illias bowed. "I would accompany you on your journey to Kamar-Taj, but I must begin preparations to establish the Pact."

"Understood. I merely wished for some company on the road." Pluto said to illias

Illias smiled wryly. "It's been a long time since you had a companion."

"Are you not considering marriage, my lord?" Illias asked with a teasing grin.

Pluto smirked faintly. "What would I do with a wife now? Spend a day or two with her, then vanish again into mountains and scrolls. No, not until I've gained the knowledge to make marriage worth the time."

Illias bowed again. "Then, may your journey be fruitful, Pluto."

"Goodbye, Illias."

Illias disappeared into the shadows as Pluto watched, a rare smile still on your face. Pluto disliked formalities, and Illias knew this well.

---

With purpose renewed, Pluto pressed onward. Unlike the aimless wandering of before, now he walked with a destination in mind.

Kamar-Taj was distant, but after two long days, you finally arrived.

Before you lay a quiet village, its unassuming streets hiding secrets older than time.

Standing at the village's edge, you breathed deeply.

*It is time for Kamar-Taj to etch my legend into its history.*
