Chapter 449: The Frozen Pool
Hakamo-o left with Lucario, while Basalt and Wu Kong, led by Bronzong and Gallade, arrived at the edge of the Frozen Pool below the cliff.
This was a pool covering nearly ten thousand square meters. When Basalt looked from the mountaintop, it seemed like a small patch, but only when he reached the edge did he realize its breadth. At the corner of the cold pool, there was a small stream that could drain the overflowing pool water.
"Hiss... it's really cold!"
Although Basalt wrapped his padded jacket tightly, he still couldn't help shivering. The shaded side combined with the cold truly had a terrifying enhancement.
"Swampert will definitely like this godforsaken place."
Shivering, Basalt released Swampert.
"Swamp~"
A deep voice sounded, and Swampert's face showed pleasant surprise.
"Eh? Basalt, this Swampert of yours is something!"
Wu Kong didn't pay much attention initially, but after examining Swampert for a moment, he couldn't help but exclaim in surprise. Because Swampert's muscles were too developed, its physique was even more majestic than a Machamp, looking astonishingly powerful at first glance. It would indeed be a pity for such a Pokémon not to learn close combat.
Splash!
Coming back to his senses, Wu Kong grabbed a handful of snow from the ground, packed it into a snowball, and threw it forcefully into the Frozen Pool, splashing quite a bit of water.
Soon, a blue bipedal Pokémon with strong arms appeared. It had three fingers on its hands, looking like it was wearing white gloves, and no toes on its feet. Its white belly had a black spiral pattern, but looking closely, one would discover that the pattern was actually its exposed transparent internal organs.
"Poliwrath!"
Basalt recognized the Pokémon before him. It was the Water/Fighting dual-type Pokémon Poliwrath, also the final evolutionary form of Poliwag.
Originally, Poliwrath seemed to be swimming in the distance, but upon hearing Wu Kong's summons, it swam over immediately, like a high-speed motorboat racing on water. Poliwrath is a Pokémon very adept at swimming. It has robust muscles on its arms and legs and won't feel fatigued, able to swim very long distances without breathing heavily.
Using both hands and feet, Poliwrath shot out of the water directly like a cannonball into mid-air, but finally landed steadily on the snow.
"Swamp~"
Swampert's eyes lit up. Obviously, this Poliwrath's water control and fighting abilities were formidable, a role model for it to learn from.
"Don't rush, there's another Pokémon training at the bottom of the pool; it's coming up soon too."
As soon as Wu Kong finished speaking, a crab Pokémon covered in white fur surfaced from the bottom of the pool. It had purple patches on its chest, back, abdomen, and forelimbs. Its pincers were shaped like fists, with blue and purple footprint-like patterns. Besides that, it had beige "hair" forking to both sides, blue horizontal stripes on its abdomen, and blue around its eyes and at the ends of its feet.
"It's actually a Crabominable!"
Basalt was slightly surprised. As the only Fighting/Ice dual-type Pokémon, Crabominable was very rare in China. He didn't expect Wu Kong to have captured and be raising one.
Crabominable's figure was very tall, standing fully two meters high. Its pincers were also very heavy, like two giant hammers, capable of easily punching through reinforced concrete walls. From Crabominable, Swampert also sensed extremely pure Ice-type energy. In terms of energy purity, it was not inferior to thousand-year-old ice at all.
"Basalt, leave your Swampert at the Frozen Pool! Poliwrath and Crabominable will drill it well!"
Wu Kong smiled slightly, but Basalt involuntarily shuddered.
At the mountaintop, Wu Kong talked about "following for training," but this time Wu Kong used the word "drill" (or torture/discipline)! Clearly, both Crabominable and Poliwrath were extremely rough Pokémon, and their training methods might also be "unique."
Basalt looked at Swampert, who just nodded solemnly. As long as it could become stronger, what was a little hardship? Although it had mastered "Swamp Domain" and "Instant Freeze," the backup Camerupt, Aura Hakamo-o, and Carbink all put great pressure on it. Truly dared not rest for a moment!
"Then do your best!"
Basalt patted Swampert's head, turned around, and followed Wu Kong back to the mountaintop.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
As soon as they reached the mountaintop, Basalt heard the loud sounds of battle coming from the Frozen Pool, deafening and occasionally accompanied by explosions of cold pool water. Clearly, they had already started fighting.
"Eh? Basalt, your Swampert can actually last so long under Crabominable's hands?"
Wu Kong exclaimed in surprise again.
His Crabominable was a very reckless Pokémon. Encountering a suitable opponent, it couldn't help but rush up to fight until it defeated the opponent or was defeated, only then could they get along peacefully. Crucially, in the first spar, Crabominable wouldn't hold back.
But Basalt's Swampert had already persisted for over a minute. This duration seemed a bit long.
Curious, Wu Kong couldn't help walking back to the cliff edge. Looking down, he saw a patch of dark swamp had appeared beside the Frozen Pool at some point. Crabominable was currently fighting fiercely with Swampert in the swamp. As for Poliwrath, it stood aside with arms folded, watching the battle quietly.
"Fusion move of Water and Ground types? Interesting!"
Although Wu Kong wasn't old, born into a martial arts family, he knew a lot. He recognized the principle of the Swamp Domain at a glance.
Although the Swamp Domain did cause Crabominable a lot of trouble initially, the Ice-powered Crabominable just slightly surged the Ice energy in its body, and the swamp froze completely. Swampert's Swamp Domain failed completely.
Immediately after, Crabominable began to exert force. Although Swampert had immense strength, facing Crabominable's giant hammer pincers, it fell into a disadvantage instantly, suppressed and hammered repeatedly.
Before long, Swampert fainted with swirling eyes and was dragged into the Frozen Pool by Crabominable gripping its leg with a pincer, like dragging a dead body.
"Hiss..."
Basalt sucked in a breath of cold air and whispered, "Senior Brother, is drilling like this really okay?"
"Rest assured. It's always like this the first time; it'll be fine later!"
Wu Kong patted Basalt's shoulder with a smile to comfort him.
"In-fer~ In-fer~"
Seeing Crabominable also had a disciple to drill, although Infernape had Hakamo-o, it wasn't around right now, so Infernape felt itchy (restless). But soon, it remembered that when Basalt was in the Ashikule Volcano area, he went to capture a Fire-type Pokémon. Thinking this way, Basalt must have another Fire-type Pokémon, just right for it to give some pointers and relieve boredom!
Learning of Infernape's thought, Basalt looked strange and said somewhat awkwardly, "Infernape, regarding my Fire-type Pokémon, I'm afraid you can't teach it much!"
"In-fer~ In-fer~"
Hearing this, Infernape disagreed on the spot.
What do you mean I can't teach much?
I am a Gym Leader-level Pokémon. Although mainly Fighting-type, my Fire-type attainments are not to be underestimated; after all, it's my primary type. Playing with fire, I am an expert!
"Then... alright!"
Basalt nodded reluctantly, then released Camerupt and introduced, "Camerupt, this is Senior Brother Wu Kong's Infernape. It's a Gym Leader-level Pokémon and wants to give some pointers on your Fire-type energy control."
"Donk~ Roar~"
Hearing this, Camerupt's eyes lit up, and it quickly showed a look of humbly asking for advice, which Infernape greatly enjoyed. This Camerupt knew the rules!
Thinking slightly, Infernape decided to start pointers from "Will-O-Wisp." It waved its fingers slightly, and five cyan flames immediately condensed on its five fingers, floating up in mutual radiance.
Cyan flames represented terrifyingly high temperatures, usually only achievable by Gym Leader-level Pokémon.
But unexpectedly, seeing the cyan Will-O-Wisp, Camerupt was instantly extremely disappointed. Because cyan flames are divided into three levels: Green-Cyan, Azure, and Ultramarine, from low to high. The Will-O-Wisp displayed by Infernape was only at the most ordinary Green-Cyan level. But Camerupt, possessing the Primal Groudon Scale, reached the Green-Cyan level even with ordinary flames. If it was condensed Will-O-Wisp, the flame temperature would rise another level.
"Donk~ Roar~"
The respect in its eyes disappeared; Camerupt curled its lips in disdain.
"In-fer~"
Seeing this, Infernape almost exploded on the spot. Damn, this little camel in front of me actually looks down on me?
But the next second, Infernape's eyes almost popped out.
It saw Camerupt shake its body, and seven or eight flames flew out from the two hump openings, scrambling to get out, emitting extremely scorching high temperatures that even Infernape felt uncomfortable with.
Most importantly, the color of those flames was actually Azure!
As a Fire-type Pokémon, Infernape knew too well what this meant. In terms of flame temperature, it was inferior to Camerupt.
Instantly, Infernape wilted completely like a frosted eggplant! Mainly because this wave was too damaging to its confidence.
Even Wu Kong beside them was extremely surprised; he didn't expect Basalt's Camerupt to reach such a level.
"Why do the Pokémon raised by this guy reveal distinctiveness everywhere?"
Wu Kong wondered inwardly. What kind of monster trainer did I meet back in the Ashikule Volcano area?
