Chapter 60 - Ordinary

Filling out the offer sheet in the Resource Hall was an odious process, as was typical of any task outside of the Sixth House. By the time Mo Seris was finished, and prepared to go to the Flower Visiting Pavilion, daylight was already on last gasps.

Once he had eaten a small meal, summoned his servant and made the arrangements for his carriage, day had already passed to night and he still had not even left the Mo Estate.

Surprisingly, Mo Seris did not feel displeased. Rather, he was in a strange, happy mood. After thinking about the Song infant for so long, passing it on made it feel like a load was lifted off his back. Not to mention that the business in the Resource Hall was also fully handled, signaling an end to the whole matter.

He settled at last in the carriage, which was gently rocking beneath him. There were no more highs and lows, no other obligations to fulfill.

In his mind, he was already anticipating the experiences that awaited him at the Pavilion.

Because he was no longer working, he wasn't taking one of the fancy carriages of the Sixth House, but rather his personal carriage.

It was not being pulled by Demonbeast horses. The front was also open, allowing for free communication between the cabin and the box. It would have given off a relaxed, inconspicuous look to passersby were it not for the image of a two-head wolf running along its side.

The Mo insignia alone was worth a Demonbeast horse in terms of the respect it garnered and the trouble it avoided in Brightsteel Town.

A flash ran across the sky, shaking Mo Seris from his daydreams. He turned his head to watch through the window.

A Martial Grandmaster was on the move.

The sight was familiar to everyone in the Mo Estate, which boasted somewhere between six and ten Grandmasters. Some rumors put their strength at closer to twenty, but few believed such outrageous claims.

Grandmasters were the peak experts in Brightsteel, and so it was a matter of course that the top families kept their true numbers a secret even from members of the higher echelons in their own family.

Mo Seris watched the flash disappear in the sky.

He suppressed the dissatisfaction that was stirring in him.

There were certain people who were born with talent that could suppress millions. They were like a superior race that stood above all of the families, ignoring the divisions of class and status and looking down on all those who were not their peers.

Even a family head would be suppressed completely. There was no hope for a member of the 'ordinary race' like Mo Seris to ever catch up. There was not even an opportunity to befriend one of them.

He could only watch in envy whenever he was reminded of their existence.

Soon, they were out of the Mo Estate and on the streets of Brightsteel Town. The guards at the gate were far less strict with departing carriages compared to those entering. Mo Seris was never even asked to show himself. He stayed inside the cabin the whole time.

Brightsteel Town was far busier at night than during the day. The work day was over and the streets were filled with the certain enthusiasm that could only come from the pursuit of pleasure. Among the crowds of people walking energetically by the shopfronts, few had work on their minds. They were focused on social events and the other opportunities of the night.

The uneven light streaming down from street lanterns contributed to the uninhibited atmosphere.

The passersby parted respectfully when they saw a Mo carriage coming down the street. As they moved, Mo Seris stared out imperiously at them.
