Chapter 128: Captain America in Action

Steve, who had quietly memorized the map, returned directly to the changing room backstage and began packing his belongings.

"What's your plan? Are you walking to Austria?" Carter asked, following him into the room.

"If necessary," Steve replied without looking up.

"You heard what the officer said; your friend might be dead!" Carter exclaimed, trying to prevent Steve from running off alone to a HYDRA base to rescue someone without any preparation.

"But it's not certain," Steve replied, his belief in Bucky's resilience evident. He couldn't imagine that Bucky would die in battle so easily.

"Even so, Colonel Phillips is already making plans, and that takes time," Carter continued to persuade Steve.

"By the time he's planned it, it'll be too late!" Steve raised his voice slightly, agitation creeping into his tone.

Anxious about his brother's life, Steve couldn't focus on any words of reason. He packed everything he might need into his backpack and put on a leather jacket over his tight uniform.

Finally, he grabbed the iron shield used for the performance and, ignoring Carter's attempts to dissuade him, strode out of the tent.

"Steve!" Carter shouted, quickly chasing after him.

As Steve exited the tent, he tossed his backpack and shield into a jeep parked at the entrance.

Noticing the deep concern and anxiety on Carter's face as she caught up with him, he paused and softly asked, "You said I could do far more than this. Is that true?"

"True," Carter said solemnly. Though the rain made her appear a bit disheveled, it further highlighted her feelings for Steve.

"Then let me go," Steve insisted, turning to get into the driver's seat of the jeep.

Seeing Steve's determined figure about to start the car and leave, Carter quickly stepped forward and grabbed the steering wheel. Looking up into Steve's resolute eyes, she said, "I can do more than this."

Understanding that she couldn't deter Steve's determination to save his friend, Carter wanted to contribute in any way she could.

Perhaps it was Steve's loyalty, courage, and decisiveness that drew her to him.

Eventually, Carter brought Howard Stark to assist Steve.

With their help, Steve arrived at Klausberg, Germany, where a HYDRA military camp was located.

According to intelligence, the 107th Regiment was captured and imprisoned there.

Despite the continuous artillery fire below, Steve resolutely jumped from the plane to rescue his friend Bucky.

After landing safely, he used the cover of night to descend into the forest quietly. He adjusted his gear, found his direction, and quickly headed toward the HYDRA base.

The landing spot was not far from the base, so Steve stealthily approached, hiding in a patch of woods near the main gate.

In the darkness, the HYDRA base loomed like a giant beast lurking in the mountains, with its towering buildings resembling a dam.

Steve observed that the entire base was surrounded by tall concrete walls and barbed wire, with only the main gate connecting it to the outside world through a forest path.

Searchlight beams from the watchtower by the gate continuously swept both inside and outside the base, making it extremely difficult to sneak in unnoticed.

Just then, the sound of a car engine echoed from the end of the road, growing louder as it approached.

Shortly after, several trucks emerged from around the corner.

Steve quietly moved off the road, and as the trucks passed, he darted out from his hiding place in the woods and leaped into the back of the last truck.

However, once inside the truck bed, he spotted two fully armed HYDRA soldiers sitting on wooden crates, who had already noticed him and were preparing to attack.

Easily dispatching the two soldiers, Steve threw them out of the truck bed. This truck was at the very end of the convoy, surrounded by dark, silent woods, so there was little risk of anyone discovering anything unusual.

The truck convoy successfully entered the main gate of the HYDRA Base, stopping one by one in front of a warehouse on one side, where the transported supplies would be unloaded.

Several fully armed HYDRA soldiers patrolled back and forth inside the Base while a group of workers began moving supplies from the trucks.

Taking advantage of the moment when the workers and guards were distracted, Steve quickly jumped out of the truck bed. Using the truck as cover, he stealthily approached the Base building.

This area should serve as a HYDRA armory. Between the warehouse and the massive Base building, a wide open space was filled with dozens of black heavy tanks and armored vehicles, their skull and HYDRA symbols exceptionally clear.

Using the tanks and armored vehicles for cover, and avoiding the searchlights and the sight of patrolling soldiers, Steve swiftly crossed the open space.

He climbed onto the roof of a heavily armored vehicle, which was over three meters high, parked next to the building.

From there, he ran along the roof toward the tall Base building in the distance, silently approaching its base and successfully infiltrating the interior through a window.

As he evaded wave after wave of HYDRA soldiers, Steve made his way past the outer perimeter.

After knocking out a HYDRA guard, he accessed the core area of the Base, where the massive production workshop of the weapons factory was fully revealed before him.

The outer perimeter of the entire building consisted of layers of separate floors. In contrast, the center of the building featured an open area from top to bottom, forming a huge production workshop dozens of meters high.

What Steve didn't know was that another group was monitoring his actions. Today, Schmidt was leading Dr. Zola to the factory to inspect the construction of the "Valkyrie."

The "Valkyrie Project" had begun after Schmidt's appearance had markedly changed following his enhancement with the Super Soldier Serum.

Hitler dispatched Schmidt to the weapons research institute in the Alps, but Schmidt believed that Hitler was exiling him, which created conflict between them.

He also felt that HYDRA could not thrive under Hitler's influence.

After acquiring the Tesseract, Dr. Zola utilized its research results to create a super weapon bomb.

Schmidt planned to use this bomb to destroy the capitals of all enemy nations within hours, including Berlin, the capital of Germany.

The "Valkyrie" is the name of the aircraft equipped with the super bomb. Schmidt's large-scale capture of prisoners was specifically because the "Valkyrie Project" required a significant labor force.

Unaware of all this, Steve was still cautiously searching for the location where the prisoners of war were held.

"Officer, Steve has entered the Base," reported a factory manager to the other end of the phone.

"Proceed as planned," Lane ordered from a German estate.

"Yes!"

After hanging up, the special forces operative adjusted his clothes in front of the mirror. He then picked up a pre-prepared order and planned to find Dr. Zola for his signature.

According to the plan George had devised for Lane, one part involved ambushing a specific number of personnel at various HYDRA Bases, while the other was to monitor Steve's movements constantly.

As soon as Steve was detected at any Base, the evacuation plan would be immediately activated.

At that time, in addition to scientific research data, the most crucial energy blocks extracted from the Tesseract would also need to be transferred to the warehouse.

Someone would then use a pre-prepared magic bag to transport all the energy blocks.

"As you can see, the Valkyrie is being constructed as planned, even parts of this size," Dr. Zola said to Schmidt.

"Increase the progress by sixty percent, and extend that to the other construction Bases," Schmidt replied after observing.

"But these are all prisoners; I don't think they have the strength," Dr. Zola explained.

"Then use up all their strength, Doctor. There will always be more workers," Schmidt stated as he left the workshop.

As the factory's head, Dr. Zola understood that to advance the project's progress, a large number of workers alone were not sufficient.

Skill level and obedience were also necessary, but Schmidt did not care about these factors, which greatly annoyed Zola.

Just then, the special forces operative approached to obtain Dr. Zola's signature. Annoyed, Dr. Zola replied, "Don't bother me now," and turned to leave.

Watching Dr. Zola's retreating figure, the special forces operative smiled with satisfaction. He then instructed the workers who were moving items, "Quick, everyone, move all of these into Warehouse No. 1."

Steve had just infiltrated the assembly workshop, where nearly a hundred objects, over twenty meters tall and shaped like bullet heads, stood upright.

While on a platform, he spotted a blue battery the size of a magazine and casually slipped it into his pocket.

Fortunately, twenty minutes later, Steve found the captured prisoners in the Underground Room. After knocking out the guards, he used the keys to free them all.

Even better, among the freed prisoners was someone who knew where his friend Bucky was being held. After pointing the way out to the others, Steve decided to rescue Bucky himself.

The prisoners quickly armed themselves as they ran. By the time they rushed out of the building, many of them were already equipped with weapons, and they engaged in fierce combat with the responding HYDRA soldiers.

There were only a few hundred HYDRA soldiers in the entire base, most of whom were inside the main building.

Caught off guard, many HYDRA soldiers stationed outside were quickly eliminated by the suddenly mobilized prisoners.

It wasn't until Schmidt, in the control room, discovered the anomaly and sounded the alarm that large numbers of HYDRA soldiers poured out of the base building.

As the prisoners of war seized the unattended tanks and armored vehicles parked in the open area, the situation outside began to tilt even more in Steve's favor.

The HYDRA soldiers rushing out from the base building were continuously taken out by their weapons.

Machine gun bullets zipped through the night sky, claiming the lives of HYDRA soldiers, and their losses became increasingly severe.

After realizing the situation was spiraling out of control, Schmidt's face turned pale.

Through the monitor, he could see the HYDRA soldiers retreating under the assault from the Allied soldiers.

Steve's performance was particularly outstanding, and Schmidt recognized him immediately upon seeing him.

Seeing that his soldiers were no match for the attackers and that the base was on the verge of falling, Schmidt's eyes flickered with cold resolve.

He turned to the control panel and methodically pressed the switches one by one.

"No! What are you doing?!" Dr. Zola shouted as he saw Schmidt activate the base's self-destruct device, intending to blow up the entire facility.

He no longer cared about his fear of Schmidt and quickly ran forward, trying to save himself.

"Our soldiers are outmatched!" Schmidt said while continuing to activate the self-destruct systems.

Watching Steve on the screen, clad in a black combat suit and easily dispatching HYDRA soldiers with his shield, Zola realized that the base could not be held.

If it were breached, his fate would indeed be dire; he had no intention of being captured by the enemy.

Meanwhile, in an unnoticed warehouse, a group was putting the final items into a magical bag.

Hearing the lively sounds of gunfire outside, the few people in the warehouse exchanged glances, and the leader said, "Mission accomplished—evacuate."

One day later, George received Lane's report on the battle from the previous night.

In truth, George had watched the entire battle unfold through Monday's broadcast.

Two days later, just as Agent Carter and Officer Phillips believed Captain America had failed, they noticed soldiers gathering at the camp's main gate.

A dense sound of footsteps and the roar of engines approached from the road. As the sounds grew closer, the soldiers blocking the entrance automatically parted, revealing the scene outside.

Outside the gate, a group of ragged soldiers, armed with weapons, marched toward the camp, led by a tall figure.

The officer quickly recognized that these individuals were nearly a hundred soldiers from the 107th Infantry Regiment, who HYDRA had captured.

Leading them was Steve, who had gone deep behind enemy lines to rescue the prisoners and had been missing for several days.

Although the captured soldiers looked disheveled at the moment, each person's face was filled with confidence and pride. Their steps were firm, and morale was high.

Colonel Phillips, having received orders from above, chose not to punish Steve for this incident. Instead, he decided to recall Steve and allow him to transition from being a stage performer back to the battlefield for a more significant role.

While Steve prepared for his next mission, the transformation of the chaos pearl was finally complete.

This morning, George gently stroked the softness in his hand as he woke up, then routine led him to immerse his mind in the chaos pearl. Today felt different from yesterday; his mind smoothly entered the Chaos Space.

At this point, George was fully awake. Carefully moving the beautiful leg resting on him, he got up, dressed, and instantly arrived at the Room of Requirement.

Upon entering the room, George immediately accessed the chaos pearl. As he did so, he understood the transformation he was undergoing.

The recovery of the Chaos Pearl brought about two significant changes for him.

The first change involved the flow of time; George could now control the time ratio between the Chaos Space and the outside world, ranging from 1 to 10.

If he set the ratio to 1 to 10, this meant that for every 10 days that passed within the chaos pearl, only one day would pass in the real world, which, in this case, is the Marvel Universe.

However, this wasn't the most critical change for George. The more crucial aspect was that when George entered other-dimensional worlds, the time ratio between those dimensions and the real world also became 10 to 1.

This ensured that he wouldn't miss anything important in the real world, even if he spent extended periods in other dimensions, allowing him to gain more benefits from those experiences.

The second significant change was the ability to reverse time.

Just as the first Tesseract granted George the capability of instantaneous movement, the chaos pearl, after absorbing the spiritual light triangle, gave him the power to reverse time.

This ability was straightforward. George retrieved the M1911 from the weapons stored in his space.

He activated the time reversal feature, focused his eyes, and witnessed a scene of light and shadow unfolding before him.

He observed every component of the gun— from the different raw materials used to the processes of smelting, casting, grinding, assembling, and finally, collecting—all the knowledge flowed into his understanding.

Upon reviewing the gun, George noted that it had issues stemming from a lack of maintenance.

"Reparo!"

After casting the spell, he compared it again and found that the pistol was completely restored.

While the ability of time reversal could only affect objects that George personally interacted with and could not directly enhance his combat skills, it was invaluable for knowledge accumulation.

For instance, in the Harry Potter world, as long as George wished, the forging method for any magical item would never be hidden from him.

Coupled with his alchemy skills, he would become the top alchemist.

Knowledge is always priceless, and this is true in any world.
