Chapter 126: Hive
Unknowingly, some time had passed since George returned to reality. World War II was still ongoing, and he was observing the actions of various countries from Hogwarts Island on Monday.
At this time, Captain America, Steve Rogers, was still on a national tour, selling war bonds for the U.S. government. HYDRA was still deploying various black technologies across the European battlefield, and the war raged on.
According to Monday's compiled data, all the war materials George had prepared earlier were sold out, and various munitions factories were working overtime. In addition to firearms, factories fulfilling his supply contracts were operating 24 hours a day in shifts.
Because of George's early planning, he secured the largest share of the market. Even HYDRA wasn't exempt. Nearly a hundred warriors under George, using the Shadow Clone technique, had already embedded themselves deep within HYDRA. During this time, they not only sent George the full research data on energy weapons but also secured a considerable stockpile of energy batteries refined by Dr. Zola.
For safety, George had ordered all infiltrators to stay hidden for now. The Chaos Space was still inaccessible, meaning he couldn't yet travel to new worlds. But he wouldn't remain idle. One particular matter could be handled right away.
Malik Castle, Gloucestershire, England
Several years ago, the Malik Family, an elder HYDRA lineage, moved out of Germany. After George took the most important Cohen Stone from HYDRA, the other families believed the Maliks had betrayed them. They were jointly hunted down. Only Fred Malik, the eldest son, escaped. The castle was left abandoned.
George came for the activation device linked to the Cohen Stone, hidden in a secret room. HYDRA's ancient goal was to rescue Hive, a being exiled to an alien planet due to his terrifying strength and ambition.
HYDRA believed Hive would return to rule the Earth. The Malik family's instrument was the result of that obsession. It generated a precise vibration frequency that, when interacting with the Cohen Stone, created a portal to Hive's prison.
After scanning for life, George teleported into the secret room. He activated a switch, lighting the chamber.
Old machines lined the walls.
He opened a floor mechanism, revealing a three-meter-deep pit meant for the Cohen Stone.
Instead of rushing, George recorded the design of the machines.
Then, he retrieved fragment stones made from the original Cohen Stone. The main piece remained sealed in a magic bag in the Room of Requirement.
Placing the fragments into the pit, George activated the mechanism. The room shook. The stones liquefied into black ooze. The portal had opened.
George didn't jump in. Instead, he created a Shadow Clone, handed it a device, and sent it through the portal.
Back in the secret room, George used the device to capture the portal's vibrational frequency. As the clone vanished, the room trembled harder. Sparks flew from the aging equipment.
The instruments were breaking down. George, unbothered, continued recording. The room's mechanism functioned using quantum resonance theory. The room itself acted as a resonance chamber, opening the portal by exciting the stone into a spatial state.
With enough data, George could replicate this without relying on fragile gear.
Ten seconds later, the machine exploded with a loud boom. The portal closed. The Cohen Stone fragments were reduced to black dust.
George finished recording, retrieved the data device, and synchronized consciousness with the clone.
The clone opened a mystic circle and returned to the room.
The first phase was a success.
George dismissed the clone and turned back to the decaying machines. A green beam disintegrated the equipment entirely. Darkness returned.
A new spatial gate opened. George appeared on the alien planet.
The sandstorm had cleared. Above him loomed two enormous moonsāso large and near, it was hard to tell if he was on a planet or one of the moons himself.
Gravity was higher. The land looked drained of color.
He brushed dust from his coat, picked a direction, and walked.
Half an hour later, he reached a ridge. Below, a ruined monument resembling HYDRA's symbol towered hundreds of meters highāa skull with six curled tentacles. He kept walking.
Two hours passed. Dim peaks surrounded him. He spotted no animals, no vegetationājust cemeteries scattered along his path. Sacrifices. Thousands of years' worth.
Ahead, a massive ruined city appeared, spanning over ten square kilometers. The city's shape was intact, but it was utterly silent.
As he stepped closer, a voice stopped him.
"If I were you, I wouldn't go there."
George turned slowly, hiding his smirk. "Who's there? Show yourself."
An old man stepped out from behind a rock, dressed in tattered rags, a revolver loosely aimed. "Hey, friend, shouldn't you introduce yourself first?"
George feigned nervousness. "My name's George. Who are you? And⦠what is this place?"
"Which family do you come from? Why are you here?"
"I don't know, sir. I entered a room, got swallowed by a giant stone, and ended up here."
The man relaxed slightly, lowering the gun. "John Malik."
"Sorryāwhat?"
"I said my name. John Malik."
"Then, Mr. Malik⦠what is this place?"
"Alien planet. Thought that was obvious."
"Can I go back?"
Malik laughed. "Back? Not a chance. If you weren't sent here by lottery, then you're just unlucky. No one ever returns."
After enjoying George's confused look, Malik turned and waved. "Come on, kid. It's not safe here."
George followed.
"What year is it back on Earth?"
"1943. War's raging. Europe's a mess."
"Forty years? So I've missed a lot⦠but I'll catch up."
Malik glanced sideways. "Right, George?"
George nodded politely. "Of course, Mr. Malik. I'll tell you everything I can."
"Is it always this dim here? I've walked for hours, no light change."
"This planet's day/night cycle lasts 18 years. Long as hell. The air's breathable. There's waterābarely. The surface plants are dead, but the aquatic ones are edible. Geothermal heat keeps us from freezing."
"Sounds like you know a lot," George said. "And that ruined cityāis anyone else here?"
"No one's left but us. I've searched the whole place. The city you saw⦠that's a grave."
"You seem to know it well."
"I was there. Long ago."
George's fingers moved quietly behind his back, forming seals.
Malik stopped walking. His tone shifted.
"Because I watched it fall."
