Swiftly, Nighteye withdrew his hand from Lena's shoulder; it almost felt as if he had received an electric shock throughout his entire body. He felt strangely exhausted.
"Don't touch me, you weird fetishist!" Lena exclaimed, slapping Nighteye and moving a few feet away from him. "Touch me again, and you'll have no more children!"
Ignoring Lena's sarcastic retort and the slap on his cheek, Nighteye looked around with exhaustion and relief. "I'm back... I feel like it's been too long since I've been back in this office..."
"Hey, Mirio! What's wrong with him?" Lena raised an eyebrow at Nighteye's muttering. "Is he drunk?"
Mirio merely shrugged as he approached Sir. "Nah, he's just immersed in his thoughts; it happens from time to time."
"I used my Quirk on Oxton," Nighteye explained, reseating himself on his chair. "It was... a relief, to say the least."
"Ah, I see. Did you see anything interesting, Sir?" Bubble Girl asked curiously.
'I see... so that's what happened,' Lena thought, holding a finger to her cheek with a thoughtful look, remembering Nighteye's Quirk that had been explained in his nomination. "Your Quirk had something to do with time and sight, didn't it?"
Nighteye nodded towards Lena. "I have the ability to see a person's future for a certain amount of time. Out of curiosity, I decided to see what you would do..."
An instant before, when Nighteye had touched Lena's shoulder and used his Quirk, her body instinctively went on guard. Almost as if her own Energy warned her that someone had entered her Personal Time. This only generated more questions in Lena's head. 'Can my Energy detect other users with Time Quirks?... Maybe it expelled Nighteye due to my 'Entropic Resistance'?'
"And what did you see?" Lena asked, cocking her head to the side. "You didn't see my death or anything, did you?"
Nighteye shook his head, letting out a small sigh. "I... I don't remember it well; it's like my brain blocked out most of the information... but I remember talking to someone and seeing the sky covered in thousands of crystals."
Lena's eyes widened like saucers before she smiled mockingly. "I see..."
Nighteye narrowed his eyes. "You do know what that was, don't you?"
"Why should I tell you?" replied Lena with a mischievous grin. "Women should keep their secrets."
With a blank stare, Nighteye asked the question that had been on his mind for a while now. "How exactly does your Quirk work? U.A. didn't give me any more details, other than you could move very fast and were stronger than most ordinary people... possibly stronger than most Beginner Heroes."
"Wait a minute," Lena pointed at Nighteye before crossing her arms. "Are you saying that you sent an Internship Nomination my way without first checking my Quirk or my record at U.A. and before U.A.? That's very careless of you."
"I don't particularly care about a speedster's Quirk," Nighteye replied, adjusting his glasses. "If you can knock out a Villain before he can do anything, that's more than enough for me already. Think about it, in hostage situations, you could take out the hostages or knock out all the Villains before something terrible happens. I have Mirio to deal with most serious situations, but even he can't take care of everything all the time."
'That makes sense... From the way Mirio talks, he seems to be like a very versatile Tank or Attacker of sorts, but he can't always become fast enough to save as many lives as possible,' Lena thought, nodding at the judgment of Nighteye's thoughts. 'He may be a fetishist, but he's pretty smart... or rather, that's bad knowing he's a fetishist...'
"Now, go do your stakeouts. Don't stray too far from the agency, and if you find a dangerous villain, approach a Professional Hero... although Mirio can probably take care of him, it never hurts to be cautious, got it?"
"Understood, Captain!"
"Understood, Chief Pervert!"
And without further mishaps or misunderstandings, both Aspiring Heroes ventured into the streets in their Hero costumes, searching for any suspicious activity. Lena was particularly excited.
'My first patrol as a Heroine!'
Nighteye leaned back in his chair and, turning his gaze towards Bubble Girl, adopted a more professional tone. "Any recent news regarding any crime families?"
The poor girl flinched a little under her superior's gaze. Sometimes she forgot how the man in front of her was actually someone who dealt with the darker side of Hero Society....
"Y-Yes, the Shimada Clan has been more active than usual. We haven't confirmed the information yet, but it says that the Clan Chief, Sojiro Shimada, has passed away and that the Clan is now in the hands of his eldest son, Hanzo Shimada."
"I see... any movements from the Hashimoto Clan or the Chizaki?"
The girl in blue shook her head, letting out a frustrated grunt. "Although we know their movements, we don't have anything of particular importance... though they seem to be moving less than usual lately... almost as if they are waiting for something to happen..."
"Do we have any information on what's going on among their ranks?" Nighteye asked, raising an eyebrow. "Any details are important."
"Unfortunately, we have nothing. Our informants were discovered a few weeks ago; since then, they have reinforced their ranks and actively purged those who hadn't been in their ranks for long, leaving only the most senior ones..." Bubble Girl said quietly and somberly, feeling guilty about the death of her informants, who, although they were doing it for money and weren't particularly heroic, were still very helpful to the agency.
'We're running out of information... the big 3 crime families suddenly went quiet, with the Shimadas going through a change of Boss, the Chizakis actively purging the Informants, and the sudden silence of the Hashimotos... something big is coming...' Nighteye thought as he looked at one of the All Might posters before turning his eyes back to his computer. 'What to do...'
"So... what do we do?"
"Observe."
"And... that's it?"
"Do you want something else?"
As the citizens went about their daily lives, amidst a crowd of people coming and going, two individuals could be seen who stood out from the others, mainly because of their exotic attire that betrayed them as Heroes. However, the vast majority of the civilians paid no attention to them as they went about their daily lives.
These two people were Lena, now Tracer, and her 'Senpai,' Mirio Togata, now Lemillion.
"I don't know, I was expecting something more like..." Lena began, changing the tone of her voice to a more mysterious and serious one. "We sneak into the villains' headquarters through the hatches, knock out their guards while sneaking into a meeting where the leader of the villains is attending, sneak in, knock him out, and save the day!"
"Pfff! No, no, that's what the Night Heroes or Clandestine Heroes do. They don't gain much reputation with the citizens, but they help Hero Society a lot by stealthily taking care of more dangerous Villains," Mirio replied with a smile. "Our job is to watch the shadows that hide from the light of day, and their job is to illuminate the darkness of night."
"That's so cool!" Lena exclaimed as she imagined Kyo infiltrating a building to take down the villains. "So, what do we do?! Do we look for trouble or—"
"We're Beginner Heroes; just observe, and if something happens, help the best we can," Mirio laughed at Lena's positive attitude as they continued walking peacefully. "Maybe nothing will happen today—"
BOOM !!!
A huge explosion came from a building that was starting to collapse. People around them started running out with panicked and scared faces; some stared transfixed at the scene before them.
"IT'S A VILLAIN !!!"
"RUN!"
Lena and Mirio looked at each other before running off towards the scene of the explosion.
"Or maybe something will happen."
