She looked back, noticing the cars were still following them at a close range. "Have you informed your security?"
"They are on their way." Despite the situation they were currently in, Michael appeared too calm.
Either he really had the situation in control or was too good at pretending.
Ashley was not sure, but one thing she was sure about was that if his security did not arrive soon, this might be her last day on earth.
"What if they captured us?"
"That won't happen." His confident reply followed closely.
Ashley half-snorted, half looked at him in disbelief. "How can you be so sure about it?"
"Relax, wife, I have been into too many situations like these."
Ashley did not know if he realised what he said, but the way he mentioned her caused her heart to pound.
There was definitely something wrong with her. How could his single word make her feel like this?
Her heart even had the time to react to his words, forgetting the real turmoil they were in!
She was again brought out of her zone by a jolt. She instinctively held onto his arm.
Holding gear from one hand, Michael suddenly oversteers, causing the car to drift.
Ashley jerked towards him, but her mouth gaped noticing that they...they were driving right towards the cars approaching them.
"Are you crazy?" She couldn't help but yelp as she tightened her hold onto his arm.
Michael kept his hold onto the steering wheel intact while moving the other to her hand, clutching his arm, removed it from there and placed it on his thigh.
Now, his finger hung over the switch for the airbag. "Just sit tightly."
Ashley barely had chance to respond as fear clasped her.
The distance between the cars was reducing second by second. "Are we going to collide with them?" She whispered slowly, too frozen to even form more sentences.
Michael stole a glance at her before looking straight ahead. "You won't be harmed; not even a single scratch will appear." There was almost a silent promise in his words.
Ashley wanted to ask what about him, but right then, her airbag popped open, and she felt a strong hit towards the back and then to the front.
The windows shattered, and the glass pieces flew all over inside. A huge crack formed on the windshield.
Ashley vaguely formed out that it was only her airbag that opened.
The car collided slightly with the front car before the other person turned the car away from theirs, getting the hint that Michael was exactly the psychopath to drive into them.
Michael held the steering tightly and kept full control over it. Getting a gap in the middle, formed by the other car, he moved through the middle and sped up.
Their car zoomed far. On the way, a convoy of black cars approached them. Michael slowed down and let the window of the other car open up.
Xavier looked out. "Boss."
"The cars must be there. Lock all the roads, don't let them pass."
Xavier nodded. "Yes, boss." Saying that, the convoy drove away, leaving one car behind for their assistance.
Ashley steadily opened her trembling eyes.
Her face was in terror as soon as she noticed the state of the car. Her entire form shivered as she noticed the big red stain on his shirt. "A-are yo-you okay?"
She extended her hands towards his collar and, in distress, fumbled with his buttons.
Her lips quivered as she tried to control her shaking fingers and opened a few top buttons.
Numerous small glass shards were penetrating his skin.
"Oh gosh! We should go to the hospital!"
Michael stopped the car and leaned back. He was panting but in an extremely controlled manner.
There were sweat beads all over his face as he noticed Ashley, all worried and sick and scared.
"We are safe now." He formed the words with difficulty.
Tears escaped from her eyes as she got out of the car and came to his side. She opened the door and bent over, removing his seatbelt.
"Come out." She held his arm carefully, helping him out of the car.
Two cars ar stopped behind them, and Dustin ran out of one of them.
"Boss, are you okay?"
"No, he is not." Ashley had calmed a little to form words, but her body was still shivering. "We need to take him to the hospital."
"Home." Michael voiced out.
Ashley interjected. "Are you insane? You are injured!" Her tone increased.
Michael stood in her support and silently opened his eyes. He gazed at his wife, who was trembling uncontrollably. He extended his arm slowly, brought her in his embrace and tightened it around her.
He softly spoke. "The injury only looks worse; in fact, it isn't even worth going to the hospital."
It was true. He did not sustain major injuries. It was just that the ones he sustained were small, but too many to cause numbness in his chest.
Dustin gaped as he saw his boss explaining to his wife. It was such a sight!
Being his men, they were by now used to such incidents. That's why none of them were really that panicked. But for Mrs Clark, it was the first time.
He could only look at her with pity.
Ashley wasn't convinced at all. "If it is nothing, then why is it even bleeding?"
Ashley couldn't believe him.
Firstly, he was insane enough to drive right into his enemies, then he couldn't bother turning on his side airbag, and now he didn't even want to go to the hospital.
Michael stood silent and sighed in the end. He muttered, "Hospital, it is."
