The LORD spoke to Moses and said, "Speak to the Israelites. Tell them, 'These are my appointed feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim as holy gatherings.'
Six days you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a sacred assembly. Do not do any work; wherever you live, the Sabbath belongs to the LORD.
These are the LORD's appointed feasts, the times you must honor and celebrate:
The LORD's Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. On the fifteenth day, the Feast of Unleavened Bread begins. For seven days, you must eat bread made without yeast. On the first day, hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. For seven days, offer sacrifices to the LORD by fire. On the seventh day, hold another sacred assembly and do no work.
When you enter the land I am giving you and reap its harvest, bring the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest. The priest will wave the sheaf before the LORD so it is accepted on your behalf. This is to be done on the day after the Sabbath.
On the same day, offer a year-old lamb without defect as a burnt offering to the LORD. Along with it, present a grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and a drink offering of wine. Do not eat any bread, roasted grain, or new grain until you have brought this offering. This is a lasting ordinance for generations wherever you live.
From the day after the Sabbath, count seven full weeks. Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath, then bring an offering of new grain to the LORD. Bring two loaves made of fine flour, baked with yeast, as a wave offering of firstfruits.
Present seven male lambs, each a year old, without defect; one young bull; and two rams. Offer them all by fire, along with grain and drink offerings—a pleasing aroma to the LORD. Then offer one male goat for a sin offering and two lambs for a fellowship offering.
The priest will wave the two lambs before the LORD, together with the bread of firstfruits, as a sacred offering for the priest. On that day, proclaim a sacred assembly and do no regular work. This is a lasting ordinance wherever you live.
When you reap your harvest, do not reap the edges of your fields or gather what falls. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.
On the first day of the seventh month, have a day of rest and a sacred assembly, commemorated with trumpet blasts. Do no regular work, but offer sacrifices by fire.
The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves. Offer sacrifices by fire and do no work. Anyone who does not deny themselves will be cut off from their people. Anyone who works will face destruction. From the evening of the ninth day until the following evening, observe a Sabbath of rest.
On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, the Feast of Tabernacles begins and lasts seven days. The first day is a sacred assembly; do no work. For seven days, offer sacrifices by fire. On the eighth day, hold a closing sacred assembly and offer sacrifices by fire; do no regular work.
These are the LORD's appointed feasts. Proclaim them as sacred assemblies and bring offerings made to the LORD by fire—burnt offerings, grain offerings, sacrifices, and drink offerings—required for each day. These are in addition to the LORD's Sabbaths, your gifts, vows, and freewill offerings.
From the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after gathering the crops, celebrate the festival to the LORD for seven days. The first and the eighth day are days of rest. On the first day, take choice fruits, palm fronds, leafy branches, and poplars, and rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days. Celebrate this festival annually in the seventh month.
Live in booths for seven days, so your descendants will remember that I had the Israelites live in booths when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.'"
So Moses announced to the Israelites the appointed feasts of the LORD, and the people listened, knowing these days were sacred, holy, and set apart by the LORD.
