"I miss you too much," I whispered into the phone, my voice breaking with emotion as I curled up on the plush hotel bed. The Milan skyline glittered beyond my window, but all I could think about was Damien. "It physically hurts not having you here."
The confession slipped out before I could stop it. I immediately regretted my vulnerability—Bianca's taunts about Damien's family not accepting me still echoed in my mind.
"Hazel," Damien's voice was warm and reassuring across the miles. "I'll book a flight right now. I can be there by tomorrow evening."
"No!" I said too quickly. "I mean—that's sweet, but I'm swamped with preparations. The show is in two days and I barely have time to sleep." I forced a light tone into my voice. "Besides, you have those important family meetings. Your grandfather is expecting you."
"None of that matters compared to you," Damien insisted. "You sound exhausted. Let me be there for you."
