Chapter 9 - Blood shock

Lydia's POV

I was deeply in shock, staring at the Senior Chain Mistress and the obryn who was now taken out of our midst. My head began to spin as the scent of her blood hit my nose. I knelt down so I wouldn't fall, but what I did dragged the attention of everyone to my side.

"What's wrong with you?" came the Senior Chain Mistress's voice. I opened my mouth, but no words came. When she got close to me, my eyes began to dim as the world around me turned black, and I fell unconscious.

I don't know how long it took, but when I woke up it was already dark outside. I found myself laying on a bed in a strange room. Looking around, it somehow looked like a clinic room with a few clinical equipment, but it was very old-fashioned.

A woman in her late forties, who was wearing a white dress, approached me, her presence calm and peaceful.

"How are you feeling?" she asked me, checking my pulse.

"Normal," I replied, and she nodded. I watched her pick up a cup emitting steam from the table, and she handed it over to me.

"Drink it," she ordered, but I looked at her, thinking twice if I should take it. What if this pack is trying their best to eliminate me?

"It's safe," came her voice. I looked at her and smiled awkwardly.

"Or... are you pregnant?" she asked, standing up to collect the cup, making the situation feel so awkward.

"I am not," I replied, my lips spasming.

"Oh... then you should take it," she said with a warm smile.

I closed my mouth and drank it all. It had both a bitter and mint taste, making me frown.

"Don't worry, you'll be better," she assured me, and I sighed in relief.

I wondered what really happened and looked at her, wanting to ask, but I hesitated.

"What's it?" she asked when she noticed I wanted to say something.

"Um... I want to know what happened to me," I spoke, and she sighed deeply.

"I can't really tell, but I guess you had Blood Shock, which is very rare. This is the first time in the pack. Though you're not from here, we have never had any case of Blood Shock," she replied and then whispered,

"The last Blood Shock case was thousands of years ago, only told in tales," she spoke, making me surprised.

"Is it a bad thing? I mean, am I a bad omen?" My brow raised in question, my body tensed at the thought of it. Sensing my tension, she spoke,

"Don't worry, it's not something that is bad, but it's something deeper than anyone could imagine. I want you to keep it as a secret from the pack. No one must know of it."

Hearing her words, I was shocked.

"A secret? What's so special about it?" I asked myself, confused about it all.

"Why can't I tell anyone?" I asked.

"You might be in danger if too many people find out. We have hybrid witches and wizards in our pack, so if this word goes out, they will hunt you down. You have a rare, pure wolf," she spoke, and I was stunned.

"This world is full of surprises," I muttered under my breath, and immediately my eyes began to get heavy.

"What's going on?" I spoke hurriedly, trying to stay awake, but my eyes began closing on their own.

"Don't worry, it's the aftereffect of the drugs. You'll be perfectly fine when you wake up," she said and helped me lay properly on the bed. And before I could think of anything, I fell asleep.

I had a dream about the same guy with a perfectly built body. This time, he wore a worried expression on his face. He tried to get close to me in the dream, but I was getting further from him, and I felt a sharp pain in my chest only to find an arrow shot at his side. I was shocked and tried to reach him, but I couldn't because of the pain in my chest. I tried to move, but my legs couldn't carry me, and I silently watched how he breathed his last breath.

"No!" I screamed out of my sleep, only to find out I was back in our room. My roommates woke up, startled by my scream.

"Are you okay?" Mia got down from the bunk and asked me, her face filled with worry.

"Okay? You're insane! Do you think this is your house, that you sleep when you want and scream like a maniac?" Obryn Judith's bunkmate nagged at me.

"Why are you so worked up? Can you control having a nightmare?" Mia asked her, her tone cold.

"So what? Must you pull everyone into your mess?" she shot back in anger, making me frown. For the fact that I'm fragile in this world is just killing me. In my past life, no one could dare bully me.

I wanted to stand up to defend myself. I need to beat sense into her head, I muttered under my breath, then I heard Delia's calm voice.

"Be calm." I rolled my eyes in anger. Why is she lecturing me, huh? I wondered and got up from my bed.

"It's okay, let's all get back to sleep. Having a nightmare is not something one can control. Let's not fight over trivial matters," Obryn Judith said with a smile, making everyone quiet.

I sighed and lay back down on my bed, but I couldn't sleep. I felt a sharp gaze on me I knew who it was but the more I wanted to ignore it, the more I found it annoying.

"Will you stop staring at me like that? It's making me feel uncomfortable," I spoke politely and heard her scoff before she turned her back to me.

I grit my teeth, unable to believe her rude behavior.

When it was bright outside, I heard a loud bell, and I knew what it was it was time to bathe. I felt shy to join the girls to bathe, but I had to force myself not to get in trouble again.

After bathing, I got dressed, and both Mia and I went to the dining room. We ate our food, and the new obryns were called aside, and they began to give us roles on what to do.

"You, Obryn Lydia, alongside Obryn Jane, will be in charge of serving meals," she said, pointing at both me and the girl beside me.

"Follow me," a woman spoke immediately after we were given our roles. We were directed to the kitchen, and she gave us a few lessons on what to do.

"Obryn Lydia..." I heard a familiar voice, and I turned and saw Felisha.

"Hey!" I exclaimed in joy and hugged her, causing her to laugh.

"Shh... don't raise your voice," she whispered in my ear and withdrew from the embrace.

"Are you also assigned here?" I asked her, and she nodded.

"Yes, I think fate brought us together again," she replied with a warm smile.

"Hey! Come serve this meal," a woman spoke and pointed at me. I moved forward to collect the tray, but immediately my hand touched the tray, I felt a jolt of electricity and let go, causing it to

fall on the floor. The glass plate shattered to pieces, some particles cutting my leg.
