A violent tremor wracked my body, my muscles seizing and twitching against the mattress. It felt like a second entity, a slimy, foreign consciousness, was slithering through my veins, trying to claw its way into my mind. It whispered dark, seductive promises of surrender, of how easy it would be to just let go.

I fought back with everything I had, throwing up mental walls, clinging to the memory of everything. Mira, Roxy, my mates. They were my anchors in the storm.
Mr. Hans watched from a corner of the room, looking utterly bored. "You can fight it for as long as you want," he said with a dismissive wave. "They all do, at first. But you'll tire. Your will will break. And then, you'll be mine to command. It's inevitable."
