Chapter 22 - The outline of the story about the disappearance of the Luolan Kingdom

Deep in the vast and desolate Gobi Desert of the Western Regions, there once existed a prosperous oasis kingdom - Loulan. According to legend, it was located in the area of present-day Luobopu in Xinjiang, and it was one of the thirty-six kingdoms in the Western Regions during the Han Dynasty. Here, merchants and travelers constantly passed through, making it a necessary stop on the Silk Road. Historical records from the Han and Tang Dynasties mentioned that Loulan had exchanges of envoys, troops, and trade delegations with the Central Plains. Han Dynasty envoys, troops, and trading caravans all stopped here, enjoying banquets and singing and dancing, with the camel bells ringing continuously.

However, after the Tang Dynasty, the Loulan Kingdom suddenly vanished, and the area around Lop Nur became an "uninhabited zone". The Loulan Kingdom can be said to have almost disappeared overnight. There was no trace of it in historical records anymore. Later travelers who reached there only saw a desolate and silent desert, with broken city walls and collapsed palaces buried in the wind.

Therefore, in the legends, some say that the people of Loulan were punished by the gods and were swallowed up by a sudden sandstorm; others claim that the entire city was cursed and its residents collectively moved to the underground world, leaving only the empty ruins on the surface. Still others tell of a legend that the Kingdom of Loulan suddenly "disappeared into a fantasy realm" at some dusk, becoming a "ghost city" that vanished from the world.

The most bizarre thing is that even in modern times, when explorers entered the ruins of Luobupo, they would still find that deep in the desert, there was a sound that seemed to be a mixture of singing and camel bells, as if the spirits of Loulan were still watching over this country swallowed by the sand sea.
