A Fresh Start
"This is a bad idea, Ben." Wasp said as the teen hero in question was picking out clothes for him to wear on his night out with Carol.
Yesterday Ben made the discovery that, since the first day they met, his friend Carol Danvers had been spying on him for Nick Fury in the hopes of manipulating him to join SHIELD. That kind of betrayal would usually have resulted in the teen hero severing all ties with her on the spot and leaving her in the dust.
But certain events involving the Masters of Evil proved just how Carol truly felt about Ben. So because of that, Ben felt that he should give her another chance. He invited her to have dinner with him and it was almost time for him to go and pick her up. However not all the Avengers shared Bens views on second chances, most vocal of them was Wasp.
"This doesn't make any sense." The size-changing heroine stated as she flew around his room talking to him. "She betrayed you, she broke your heart and now you're going on a date with her. Run that logic by me one more time."
Ben sighed as he pulled out a jacket for him to try on. "It's not technically a date, Janet." He replied as he tried it on. "This is a chance to see whether Carol is really serious about earning my trust back. Sure I wont lie that she hurt me, but what kind of person would I be if I didn't give her a chance to redeem herself. I mean I can't count all the times Kevin tried to kill me before he became my best friend."
"Yeah you told me that story and I'm still confused how your worst enemy became your best friend." Wasp stated as she landed on his desk to look at him.
"Life is weird like that." Ben said as he had a look at his clothes in the mirror. He was wearing a pair of jeans accompanied by a green shirt, over which he wore a brown jacked with a trimmed collar.
Wasp looked at the teen with a worried expression on her face. She considered Ben her little brother and she didn't want to see him get hurt by that girl again. But at the same time, she saw how his eyes lit up when he said her name and all the times before when she saw them together. Every time they where together, Ben looked the happiest he'd been since the day she meet him.
Wasp sighed, then flew off the desk, grew to her full size and walked over to Ben and started straightening out his collar. "You really like her don't you." Ben averted he gaze and a small hint of red formed on his cheeks. Wasp smiled, "It's ok to say it. I wont make a big deal about it."
Ben didn't say anything for a moment, and then turned towards her. "What if I did?" He asked.
Jan gave the young hero a small smile as she flattened the creases out of the jacket. "Then you hold onto her. I may not trust her, but if you think she's worth it. Then don't let us hold you back."
"It just feels so complicated." Ben admitted.
"It always does." Jan stated. "But you just gotta roll with it and if it's meant to be, it's meant to be."
"And exactly how long have you been going after Hank?" Ben asked in a teasing tone.
Jan immediately blushed and playfully hit the teen's shoulder. "Watch it Tennyson. Or I'll zap that stylish jacket of yours."
Ben smirked as he stood challengingly before her. "Go ahead, you'll just be wasting your money. After all you bought this for me."
"I know. That's why I'm gonna let you off with a warning." She replied waging her finger at him.
The two heroes shared a laugh as Ben then looked over to the clock on his bedside table. He saw that the time for him to meet up with Carol was fast approaching.
"I gotta go." Ben said as he turned to leave.
"Have fun. And just be careful." Janet said sincerely.
Ben smiled as he left the room, headed down to his car and headed off to start his 'kind of' date.
Several moments later, the Teenaged Hero arrived at Carols apartment building, arriving a few minutes early so he could pick her up at her apartment door rather than have her meet him on the street. Ben exited the car and entered the building, heading up to floor 13 and walked down the corridor until he reached apartment 68. He reached up and knocked on the door.
Ben waited for a few seconds before the door opened. Only the person who answered the door was not Carol. In stead it was a raven-haired woman with green eyes around Ben and Carols age. Ben could only describe this girl in one possible word. Hot. Not only due to the fact that her features where practically on par with a supermodel, but she toped it off by the fact that she wore a elegant dress with a window in the chest area that showed off her, rather impressive assets. The mere sight of this woman made Ben blush like crazy.
"Hello." The woman greeted with a smile, as she looked the teen hero up and down as if she were checking him out. "Can I help you?"
Ben blinked. His mouth was completely disconnected from his brain preventing him from forming any comprehensible words.
"Uhhhhhhhh." Was all he was able to get out. The beautiful woman in the door giggled at his antics.
"Are you looking for someone?" She asked.
It took a second for Ben to process the question, by which time his mind instantly remembered his purpose for being there.
"I… uh. I'm looking for Carol Danvers. I think she lives here?" Ben replied, shaking his head to get his thoughts back on track.
The raven-haired woman smiled at the awkward teen. "Yeah she lives here. She's just getting ready." She then held out her hand to the Alien Avenger. "My name is Jessica Drew, I'm Carols roommate and all time best friend."
Ben gulped but still took her hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you. I'm Ben, Ben Tennyson."
"I know, you're the guy Carol can't stop talking about. I gotta say, you are so much cuter up close." Jessica said, once again looking him over like the first time wasn't enough. "Why don't you come in? Carol might be a little while."
"That's ok." Ben replied. "I'm fine out here. I wouldn't want to intrude."
However it seemed that the raven-haired teen didn't appear to accept no as an answer and seized Ben by the arm. "It's no trouble at all. Come on in."
Ben tried to resist, but she then dragged him through the door and practically threw him onto the couch. Ben mentally noted that this girl was way stronger than she appeared. Either she worked out a lot in her spare time, or there was more to her than meets the eye.
Jessica then sat down next to Ben on the sofa and then shifted slightly closer to him. She then gazed at Ben with those bright green eyes and placed her hand on his arm in a playful manner causing him to blush.
Ben grunted, trying to compose himself and attempted to defuse the situation he was currently in. "So. Are you going out tonight as well?
"What this?" Jessica asked, referring to her dress. "Oh this was just something I threw on. I didn't want you to get the wrong impression of me, the first time we meet."
'Exactly what kind of impression is she going for with an outfit like that?' Ben thought to himself.
Jessica then raised an eyebrow at the way he looked at her and then looked down at her dress. "What wrong? Does it not look good?"
"No, no." Ben immediately responded. "You look great in it. It fits you like a glove."
Jessica then smiled cheekily and playfully touched his arm. "Why thank you, Ben. I was worried I'd look fat in it."
"Not a chance." He responded, the words escaping him mouth before he even realized what he said.
"Aww, aren't you sweet." Jessica complemented.
Ben immediately tried racking his head to why he would just blurt something out like that without thinking. It was as if his head would get a little fuzzy every time that woman opened her mouth. His thoughts became even more confused when the beautiful woman slipped her arm through his and pulled them closer together.
"So Ben, why don't you tell me about yourself." She said as she traced her finger across his chest, making the teen hero to become flustered.
"I heard you're not one for following rules." She added as she leaned in until her lips where next to his ear. "I like a bad boy."
The sudden tension in the room made Bens heart start racing and his face to light up as red as a cherry. He wanted to move away or tell her to stop, but for some reason he couldn't, it's as if some mysterious force was overpowering his rational thinking and making him bend to this woman's will.
Before Ben could attempt to figure out what was happening, Jessica's antics where suddenly interrupted by a loud, authoritative voice.
"JESS!" Carol yelled, causing Ben to immediately stand up and knock Jessica away from him.
Ben turned to see Carol, standing in the doorway that lead to the hall behind her. She was dressed in casual clothing with a red shirt and blue jeans. She wore a brown, aviator style jacked and her signature red scarf was wrapped loosely around her neck. Her hair was surprisingly not tied up in its usual bun behind her head, but instead hung freely.
While not nearly as attention grabbing as the provocative attire being worn by Jessica, Ben couldn't take his eyes off Carol. One of the reasons is because he was basically frozen with fear as she glared at him with her piercing blue eyes. Which is understandable, given the fact that he was basically cuddling up to her roommate on the couch.
However instead of tearing him a new one like he expected her to do. Carol instead turned her attention of Jessica, who was covering her mouth to prevent herself from snickering.
"Jess what did I tell you about teasing him?" Carol said, addressing her friend.
"Oh come on Carol, he's too fun. I couldn't resist." Jessica responded.
Carol rolled her eyes. "I told you how important tonight was. I don't need you complicating things."
"I was so not complicating things." Jess defended. "I just wanted to meet your boyfriend before you two left."
Carol and Ben immediately blushed at the mention of the 'B' word.
"He's not my boyfriend!" Carol snapped, sparing a nervous look in Ben's direction before re-focusing. "Were just going to dinner."
"Uh Huh." Jessica responded, clearly not believing her. "Well if that's the case, then maybe Ben and I should go on a date." She stated, shooting a playful wink at Ben, causing the teen hero to blush.
"JESS!" Carol exclaimed, immediately resulting in the raven-haired teen to start laughing at the reaction from her friend.
"Ok ok, I've had my fun. I'll leave you guys to enjoy your 'Non-Date'." She said, punctuating her statement with air quotes as she walked away. However just as she was about to leave the room, she looked at Ben one last time and made the 'Call Me' gesture with her hand.
Ben immediately felt nervous which only increased the playful girl's bliss. She giggled as she left the room, while Carol groaned at her antics.
Once they where alone together, the two teens looked at each other in awkward silence for a few moments. Neither of them really sure what to say first. After all, going from 'I never want to see you again' to 'Will you go out with me' in one day, anyone would be a little awkward in a situation like this.
But eventually Ben cleared his throat and took the first step.
"You look nice." He complemented.
"Thank you." Carol replied. "You look good too."
"Thanks, Jan helped me pick it out." Ben said, gesturing to the clothes.
"She was ok with you doing this?" Carol asked a little surprised given her last encounter with the size-changing heroine.
"Not really." Ben admitted, causing Carol expression to fall. "But she's willing to give you the benefit of the doubt as long as I still believe in you."
Carol gave the Alien Avenger a warm smile, which he returned. He then gestured to the door. "Shall we?"
"Defiantly." Carol responded.
The two then exited the apartment with Carol hooking her arm through Bens as they walked down the hall together. Once Ben felt they where far enough away, he turned to Carol.
"Hey you know your roommates kinda hot." He stated teasingly.
Carol immediately groaned and rolled her eyes at the comment. "Don't even get me started, Ben."
Ben chuckled at her reaction and Carol even smirked as him, the whole time neither let go of the hold they had on one an other.
As the night progressed the two teens went to a restaurant. A nice place that served (In Bens opinion) the best burgers in New York. During that time, they took the time to reintroduce themselves to each other or, more accurately, a chance for Ben to get to know the real Carol Danvers.
Currently the SHIELD Agent was telling him about her time at the SHIELD Academy. "…Well, if you're in combat and your wingman is calling you "muppet-head", it reminds you that you are not a killing machine. You are, in fact, a human being and everybody on base thinks you look like a muppet." She explained.
"So, it keeps your ego in check and you don't do stupid things." Ben concluded.
"Exactly." Carol confirmed
"So what was your call sign?" Ben asked curiously.
At that question, Carol broke her eye contact with a blush forming on her face.
"Cheeseburger." She answered hesitantly. "Before you ask why, it is not the kind of thing you want to hear about over dinner."
In response, Ben immediately leaned forward, an eager grin on his face. "Oh now I really want to hear this."
Carol groaned as her blush intensified from the embarrassing memory. "I can't believe I'm telling you this. Okay. Before they put you in a jet, they put you in a g-force simulator. Which spins you around and around–you've seen them on TV before, I'm sure you've heard of it."
Ben looked up in though for a second. "Oh yeah, I remember that thing when I went to Cape Canaveral when I was 10. Fought an Alien Werewolf on that thing."
"What?" Carol asked, a mixture of confusion and shock on her face.
"Never mind. Story for a different time." Ben said, waving off her question. "Now you were telling me about the mega merry-go-round…Oohhhhh…I think I see where this is going." He said with a coy smile.
"Yeah… Just guess what I ate for lunch right before it was my turn on the merry-go-round?"
"Oh no!" Ben said as he instantly realized what she meant.
"Oh yes." Carol admitted. "When you barf and you're pulling five g's…it sort of shoots an inch or so out in front of your face, then comes screaming straight back."
From hearing news like that, Ben did the only logical thing a person can do. He laughed. He laughed so hard, which did not help Carols embarrassment.
"Yeah. Laugh it up." She grumbled, her face adopting a permanent shade of red.
After a prolonged case of the giggles, Ben finally calmed down long enough to actually form coherent words. "Ohhh, that's terrible!"
In response Carol actually laughed. "What was terrible was getting it all out of my hair! Oh my gosh."
The two shared another laugh, then Ben gazed at Carol with a genuine smile on his face, rather than the awkward expression he'd had the entire time they'd been together.
"Thank you for telling me that. I know that must have been hard for you to say." Ben said, with a warm smile on his face.
Carol returned the smile as she took a sip of her drink. "I meant what I said. No more lies; no SHIELD, no Fury, no honey-potting."
Ben giggled at that. He had to admit; Carol did seem different now that she wasn't secretly trying to manipulate him. More free with her actions and seemed less forceful with her actions. Granted it was a subtle change from her usual behavior, but it was one that Ben noticed due to the fact that he had come to know her so well.
After dinner, Ben and Carol got back into Bens car and Ben pulled out a blindfold and handed it to Carol. When she asked what it was for, Ben merely responded with, "Trust me."
She then shrugged and covered her eyes with the fabric. For what felt like an hour, Carol was driven to a destination, walked through an unknown location, and walked up what felt like a ramp and was then strapped to a chair and buckled in. She then felt the roar of what could only be a jet engine as she then felt the pressure build up that one can only get from flying in a plane. Then after a few minutes, the rumbling ceased and she felt Ben unbuckle her from her seat and proceed to lead her down the ramp again.
At this point Carol was growing impatient by the prolonged blindness, "Ok, Ben. Where have you taken me?" she asked impatiently.
"Just a few more steps." Ben said as he guided her. Then they came to a stop. "Alright here we are." Ben said as Carol felt his hands move past her face and remove the blindfold from her eyes.
From being in the darkness for so long, even the artificial lights of the area they where in cause Carol to blink a few times before her vision cleared. Once they did, Carols eyes widened as she realized where they were. Currently the two where standing on a viewing platform and ahead of them was the launch site of the NASA space shuttle at Cape Canaveral. Ben had flown her all the way out to Florida.
Carol was so surprised that she didn't know what to say, she just walked over to the railing and looked over the scenery in front of her. Ben who gave her a small smile at her surprised expression soon joined her.
She then turned to Ben, her mouth still a gap. "Wha-wha…H-How did…Why did…"
"I remembered you saying that this was your favorite place to go when you where little." Ben explained, interrupting her cute stutter. "You said you hitchhiked all the way here to see a shuttle launch when you where a kid. It's the one story you spoke so passionately about that I knew you weren't lying about."
"I can't believe you would do this for me." Carol said as she looked at him in awe.
Ben grinned as he took her hand in his. "My original plan was to fly the Quinjet into space and give you the full astronaut experience. But if figured that would be too much for a first date."
Carol blushed slightly as she raised an eyebrow. "So this is a date? I thought we weren't labeling this thing?"
The teen hero chuckled. "Yeah, you got me there. But the more I think about it, the more I realize that there's really no other word for it."
"True. But I don't think your team will be too happy about you dating me. I think Hulk still wants to turn me into paste." Carol stated.
"Yeah." Ben sighed in agreement. "But give them time. They'll come around. If I am willing to give you another chance, so will they."
"You really have that much faith in me. After everything I did?"
Ben nodded, while he didn't agree with what Carol did. He understood why she did it. She was so determined to prove herself after growing up being told she couldn't do anything, that it'd made sense she would follow Fury's orders and do what it took to complete her mission.
But right now Ben wasn't with Carol Danvers: Agent of SHIELD. He was with Carol Danvers: The most amazing girl in the world.
The two locked eyes with each other, blushes forming on their cheeks. They started to lean in towards each other, their faces closing in, their breath caressing each others faces, their eyes closing as their lips where millimeters apart.
But suddenly, an icy grip latched onto Ben's heart as he was torn from the moment and back in time; the scream, the blade, the life leaving her eyes. The memory flash was so sudden that Ben immediately recoiled from the intimate moments and backed away from Carol, breathing heavily as he clutched his heart, a panicked expression on his face.
"Ben?" Carol said in a worried tone as she approached him. "What's wrong? Are you ok?"
Ben panted for several moments, the pain of that memory shot right through him. He felt a hand land on his back and he turned to see Carol looking at him with a worried expression. The teen hero shook his head to clear it and took a deep breath.
"No Carol. I'm not ok. I'm sorry I can't do this." Ben admitted.
"What's wrong? Did I do something wrong." Carol asked.
Bens eye widened as he straitened up and faced her. "No, no. You didn't do anything, Carol. You're perfect." He complemented, making her blush but her concerned face remained.
Ben sighed as he leaned against the railing. "The problem is me. I… I'm scared, Carol."
"Of what?" Carol questioned, placing a comforting hand on his chest.
The teen hero looked solemnly at her for a moment. He did tell her about his families passing a while ago, when they became firm friends. And while he felt infinitely better about the whole situation ever since telling Janet the whole story after the Kree incident, this pain was something completely different. Mainly because this was the final piece he was holding onto. For some reason it was the one thing that Ben couldn't let go of, despite the progress he had made since arriving in this universe.
But looking into Carol's eyes, he knew that it was time to let it go. For himself and for her. He took a deep breath, and looked her in the eyes.
"As you already know. My family and everyone I loved, including my girlfriend Julie, were killed before I came to this world." Carol nodded, understanding. "But what you don't know, is that I didn't arrive after they where all dead. After I searched through the wreckage, I walked in just in time to see Julie, die right in front of me."
Carol gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. "She looked at me after she was stabbed and I saw the life leave her eyes. I watched the woman I loved die and I just stood there." Ben croaked as tears started forming in his eyes. "That moment has haunted me ever since. That's why I can't do this. I'm scared that it might happen again, I can't risk loosing you too."
That statement caused Carol to be shocked in more ways than she could count. On one hand, she was shocked that Ben basically said that there was no way for them to be together. But on the other hand, he just inadvertently admitted that she was just as important to him as Julie was, the girl he was madly in love with.
Tears formed in Carol's eyes as she wrapped her arms around him and gave him a comforting hug, which he returned. The two stayed like that for what felt like an eternity. Eventually though the two did loosen their grip, though they still clutched each others arms.
Carol gazed at Ben will sympathetic eyes. "I understand, Ben." She said calmly. "I would be scared to if I saw someone I loved die." She then leaned forward and rested her forehead against his. "But if you hold onto that fear. You'll never be able to truly move on."
Ben sniffed and nodded. "I know. But I'm terrified." He admitted.
"That's ok." Carol comforted. "It's all part of the job. We live in a dangerous world and in our line of work; we're bound to make enemies that want our loved ones and us dead. And you're not the only one who scared, Ben."
That made Ben look up, his eyes wide with surprise at Carol's confession. Carol nodded as she continued. "Sometimes I worry whenever you go and fight a super villain. But I know that you'll be ok, and so will I. After all I did just save you from the Masters of Evil."
Ben chuckled. "Yeah Abomination was certainly surprised when you punched him in the face."
"See, I can handle myself. You don't have to worry about loosing me."
"But what if there's a villain that's stronger than you?" Ben asked as the fear started returning. "What if you get hit with energy you can't absorb? What if…"
He was cut off, when a soft pair of lips suddenly pressed up against his, silencing his freak out. From the moment of contact, Ben's fears stared bubbling and threatened to explode from his mind. But then the fear, just as quickly as they came, melted away as Ben fell into the kiss. His heart raced and his exploded with pleasure. At that moment Ben wasn't scared or worried, all he could feel was happiness and confidence as Carol continued to kiss him.
Eventually Carol broke the kiss and took a step back. Ben stood there, motionless for a moment, his mind trying to register what just happened.
Carol nervously rubbed her arm as she avoided eye contact. "Sorry." She said.
Ben shook his head and regained coherent thought. "For what?" he asked confused.
"Sometimes, just jumping in and facing your fears is the best way to get rid of them." Carol said, still avoiding Ben's eye contact. "I realize now that in this situation, it was a really stupid idea. I'm sorry, Ben. That was completely uncalled for."
While she did avoid his gaze, Carol noticed Ben moving towards her in her peripheral vision. "If you want to take me home and call it a night. I completely under…"
She stopped when she felt a hand touch her cheek and turn it towards Ben, who then responded with a kiss of his own. Carol was so stunned, but didn't question it. When Ben broke the kiss, he embraced Carol in a warm hug and held her close.
"Thank you." He said warmly.
Carol smiled and returned his hug. The new couple continued to embrace for a long time. Happy to finally be together.
Later in the evening as the couple where walking down the street towards Carol's apartment, Ben held Carol's hand while she rested her head on his shoulder.
For the entire trip back, Ben couldn't stop smiling. Thanks to Carol, he felt that he could finally move on from what had happened to him. Yes there was still apart of him that was scared of loosing her. But the confidence he felt when he was with her made him believe that he could take on anything that came his way.
"This was nice." Ben said as they arrived outside the building. "We should do this again, sometime."
"I would love that." Carol admitted. "But if we are going to start dating. We have to set up some ground rules."
Ben nodded. "Sounds fair."
"Ok rule one. While I'm on duty, we act professionally around each other. No PDA or anything like that. I don't want to be treated differently, just cause I'm dating an Avenger." She clarified.
"Ok, deal." Ben agreed. "Oh rule two. No reporting to Fury about my personal stuff, unless I say it's ok."
"Done." Carol said without hesitation. "Fury already knows that you know about my mission anyway so I doubt he'll be having me continue to spy on you. But I promise, unless you say it's ok it's just between us."
Ben nodded. "Thank you, Carol."
"Though I might tell Jessica." She coyly added.
"What! Why?" Ben asked, surprised.
Carol giggled at his reaction. "Oh come on Ben. That's what a girlfriend does with her girlfriends. We gossip about our boyfriends and share everything. It comes with the territory."
"I thought you where trying not to be a stereotype?" Ben humorously stated.
"I may be tough. But I'm still a girl, Tennyson." Carol stated, giving him a playful wink.
"You certainly are." Ben agreed. He then pulled Carol closer and gave her one more kiss. "Goodnight, Ms. Danvers."
"Goodnight, Alien X." Carol playfully replied.
Ben smirked as he watched Carol walk up the stairs to the entrance. She looked back at him one more time and smiled warmly at him. Ben returned the smile as she walked through the door and went inside.
The teen hero then let out a long; dreamily sigh as he walked down the street with a little spring in his step. For most people, that would have been the perfect high note to end the day on. But those people are not Ben Tennyson, as there was one final thing he had to take care of before this night was up.
For the Director of SHIELD, it is important to remain up to date with everything that was happening at all times. Threats from HYDRA, AIM and all the prisoners that escaped during the Break Out where just some of the main focuses on Nick Fury's mind.
But it wasn't just the villains that had the super spy's mind on edge, but the heroes too. Small time vigilantes like Spider Man and the Punisher, were hardly worth Fury's time. But teams such as the X-Men and the Fantastic Four were starting to operate too independently for his liking. Then there were the Avengers, while Fury believed in their capabilities; he worried about what would happen should they become a threat. Sure they were heroes and are beloved in the public eye, but Fury knew more than anyone the danger of putting to much faith in something; especially without a contingency.
Currently the SHIELD Director was looking over some files in his office on board the Helicarrier. The only source of light was the lamp he had on his desk and he swiped his hand over the screen of the pad he had in front of him.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. "Enter!" Fury called out.
The door opened and Maria Hill walked into the dim office. "Director. I received word from Coulson's team. He thinks they've found a lead in the Centipede case."
"I'll review the report later." Fury calmly stated, not looking up form his desk.
"Sir." Hill saluted before exiting the room.
Once she was gone, Fury closed his eye and sighed. "Are you just gonna stand there all night?" he spoke to the darkness. "Or you gonna say what's on your mind?"
A few moments of silence passed. Then suddenly out from the shadows, came a blue, hooded figure. His face resembled something of a phantom and his green eyes glowed in the darkness. His mere presence seemed to make the room a few degrees cooler.
Big Chill huffed as he walked up to Fury's desk. "You and I need to talk." He stated grimly.
"I'd ask you to take a seat. But I don't think you'll take it." Fury said, completely unintimidated by the alien's presence.
Big Chill remained still as he continued to glare at Fury.
"I assume you're wondering why I asked Agent Danvers to sway you into joining SHIELD?" The Director asked.
"So you could control me." Big Chill stated. "You thought I was too dangerous to be left with the Avengers, so you ordered Carol to try and sway me to your side."
While he didn't show it, Fury was a little impressed with the level of intuition the teenager displayed. Fury then leaned forward in his chair.
"Agent Danvers was ordered to sway you and also collect Intel on you." He clarified. "You claim to be this big shot hero from another universe. But at the end of the day, that could all just be some sugar-coated story to get me to drop my guard. The fact of the matter is Tennyson, I have had no reason to trust you. You show up on the exact day of the Break Out and you just happen to have a form that can merge with technology and move it as easy a wiggling your pinky. Seems all to coincidental to me."
Big Chills eyes narrowed. "Are you actually accusing me of causing the Break Out?"
"I have no evidence to support that." Fury admitted, rising from his desk. "Nor do I have any evidence that you have any ulterior motive than working with the Avengers. But let me make one thing perfectly clear: If I have any reason to believe that you will be a danger to this planet, I will not hesitate to take you down."
The two beings held their gazes, neither one backing down or flinching.
"Not gonna happen, Fury." Big Chill snarled. "I'm a hero. I've saved the world more times than I can count. And even though I wasn't born in this dimension, I will defend this planet and all its people until my dying breath." Now it was his turn to deliver an ultimatum. "But it you ever pull a stunt like that on me again, I wont hold Wasp back next time."
Fury raised and eyebrow as the moth-like alien smirked. He then stood tall and vanished from sight. Fury looked around the room for a second, then calmly sat back on his chair. He then picked up his data pad and opened the file he had on Ben. Despite the useful data Agent Danvers was able to collect on him before she defected, it still wasn't nearly enough to use against him.
Spying on that kid was going to be extremely difficult from now on.
Ok this chapter was a little short. But I didn't want any action for this one. Just let Ben and Carol enjoy there date. It was time to have a chill chapter and just enjoy the tender moments. Superheroes don't get a lot of those, but after everything they deserved it.
Up next, Ben finds out why People keep confusing him for a mutant.
Until next time, CaptainRex75 Out!
