Chapter 1 - An Odd World

"Are you worried about another blizzard coming through on your sunny days?" an add read in Mrs. Maestri's newspaper, "Well do we have the product for you! The polar coat is perfect for -"

"There will be no need for that," she mumbled closing the newspaper, "Our prayers to the Tempestas will be heard and will make sure the sun keeps shining,"

The mumbling was overheard by her son Liam, who was on the floor whittling a piece of wood.

A boy thirteen years old but with the mentality of someone much older. After all, he was from another world.

One much more technologically advanced than this one, and his favorite game? Pokemon, he was a HUGE nerd for it.

But unfortunately for him that doesn't translate completely to his new reality.

"Come now Liam." his mom said, "It is time to gather with our fellow followers.

"Yea ma'am," Liam said putting the piece of wood down and getting up.

He wasn't happy about leaving now, he was close to making a spoon, but Mrs. Maestri would never miss church time.

They didn't need to change into any special clothes, so they went to the church as they were.

Liam was holding his mother's hands due to his inability to handle directions, and due to it being dark outside.

After short while, by following the curved stone wall, they reached the church.

The wall was built more than three hundred years ago. It circled the whole city. It was mostly made of large rocks from underground connected to each other with mud brick.

The wall was barely maintained regularly by the people living on the outer edges of the wall.

They were particularly enthusiastic because if the wall were to fail many Pokemon could get through.

After a time of walking, the mother and son reached the church.

It was a simple wooded church, it was actually build in with wood provided by Mr. Maestri, who is no longer of this world.

Entering the church there were a few people already there and sitting on the old benches looking up at the front of the church.

In front of all of the church goers were four pedestals. One with sun, one with a snowstorm, one with a sandstorm, and one with a rain cloud. Each of them were made of stone.

They were called the Tempestas.

Liam knew what they represented, they were the four weather conditions. But to the rest of the church goers, they were the were the four weathers which could take and give from their city.

Pokemon using these moves have caused untold havoc in the city. From droughts so long that no one had food to eat, to snowstorms so cold that it took the lives of many.

So now they pray to the weathers themselves hoping that something will come of it.

Liam knew that they were basically praying to Pokemon moves. Pokemon moves that were pretty common and with some abilities that can set the weather, the weather changes very often.

While Liam knew the exact reason this was happening no one else in the church knew.

If Liam did try to tell them that what they were praying to some moves, they would either not care or not believe him.

So Liam stayed silent wishing to not be embarrassed.

He sat looking down at the ground only half paying attention to what the pastor was saying to start church time.

"Liam you must pay attention," Mrs. Maestri said to her son, "You won't be able to come here as often when you go to school so you have to learn all you can now,"

In the middle of the city was a school, it was the most impotent place to the people of the city.

It had no government funding, mostly because there is no government, so the people who live in the area take care of the school.

The only reason there is a school is because the founders of the city wished to pass on their knowledge to the new generation.

"Yes ma'am," Liam replied putting his head up to look at the pastor, still not paying total attention as he usually does.

He would occasionally listen in to what the pastor was saying, hear something he disagreed with and mentality tore the argument apart.

Of corse he never said any of his arguments out loud, but if he did Liam assumed that it would have been cool.

And so time passed as it tended to do, with Liam not listening to all too much.

With the pastor ending the sermon with a quick prayer to the Tempestas.

Each adult prayed to the Tempestas for good weather for this upcoming month. Each kid closed their eyes and copped their parents.

Except for Liam, who prayed to Arceus, or Kyogre, or Groudon, or whoever should listen.

He didn't pray for good weather, he didn't need too, but he did pray for the safety of himself, his mom, and his friends.

With the sermon ending Liam and his mother went back home.

They followed the same path as they did to get there, and as they got home Liam took a look at the gate.

The gates were made of brick, the only part of the wall to be made of it. With large wooded gates keeping weaker Pokemon out.

They lived close to the gate due to his Dad needing to leave the city to cut down trees.

He may be gone, but the family pair didn't have a good reason to move out of their house, so there they stayed.

It was late in the night, so when Mrs. Maestri arrived she went to put Liam to bed.

With a tuck and a kiss she closed Liam's door and went to go to bed herself.

This is what Liam was waiting for. After she left his room and Liam didn't hear her moving for a little bit, he jumped out of bed.

He then reached under his hay bed for his notebook. It had a wood cover and the paper was recycled newspaper.

He also grabbed his pencil which he had gotten the last time he went to the center of the city.

As silent as he could he snuck out of his room, then he snuck out of the house.

As he snuck outside he could just barely see a stick he had placed near the door.

Picking it up Liam put the head of the stick down into a small dirt line.

Following down the dirt line with his stick as he has done many times before, he ended up at the wall.

Liam then leaned the stick on the wall and got down into his knees.

Putting his hand on one of the rocks it began to wiggle a bit, before popping off. Liam had found this by pure luck, but he was happy he did.

Liam put his hand through the hole and snapped his fingers.

And then, a Meowth came through the hole.
