Chapter 26 - The Eve Of Legends

After the Day, they all headed home to rest for the next day. That night, after each of them got home, none of them could truly relax. Their minds kept spinning with thoughts of time travel ; the possibilities, the danger, the pure excitement of it all.

Later in the evening, they all joined a group voice call. Maria, Eliza, Hawkings, Vinci, and Einstein. The line buzzed as they greeted each other, their voices overlapping at first, full of restless energy.

"So… first stop is Alexander the Great, right?" Vinci asked, his voice echoing in someone's kitchen.

"Yeah," Eliza replied, sounding half excited, half anxious. "But let's be smart. Tomorrow is Sunday. We can tell our parents we're going to visit each other for some group study or a project. That way, no one will suspect anything."

Maria let out a small laugh. "I can't believe we're actually doing this… sneaking away to meet Alexander the Great like he's some celebrity."

Hawkings chuckled softly. "Well, technically he is. Just from two thousand years ago."

Einstein's voice finally came through, calm and steady. "Let's get some rest tonight. We'll need all our focus tomorrow. We meet at Vinci's place in the morning."

"Agreed," Vinci said. "Sleep tight, everyone. Big day tomorrow."

One by one, they said goodnight and hung up. But even after that, sleep didn't come easily. They each lay awake in their rooms, staring at the ceiling, replaying plans in their heads and imagining what Alexander might really be like.

It's Sunday

The next morning, the sun rose bright and sharp in the sky. A warm, golden light spilled across their neighborhoods as they all hurried to Vinci's house.

When they arrived, Vinci was already arranging chairs and clearing a space for the prototype. Maria, Eliza, and Hawkings were there early, all pacing and fidgeting with their bags.

Einstein arrived last, slightly out of breath but smiling. "Sorry for the delay, everyone. I had to double-check something," he said, brushing hair from his forehead.

They all finally sat down together, looking at each other ; a silent agreement passing between them. Today was the day.

Einstein stood up and looked around. "Alright. Now we time travel into the past."

They all stood at once, gathering around the gleaming prototype on Vinci's worktable.

"Da Vinci," Einstein said, nodding at him. "Set your prototype."

Da Vinci quickly adjusted the dials and checked the glowing core at the center of the device. Hawkings moved beside him, fine-tuning his own machine to work with it.

Hawkings glanced up. "I've set it so that once an hour passes here, it automatically pulls us back. Just in case anything goes wrong, we don't get stuck."

Eliza frowned a little, shifting her weight. "An hour? That's too little. One second here is like a whole year over there. If we're only there for an hour of our time… that's basically nothing. We should make it count."

Hawkings paused, thinking carefully. Eliza continued, her eyes bright. "Let's spend a month there. One month exploring, talking, seeing what we can learn. Then come back. We'll be gone for such a tiny moment here , no one will even notice."

Hawkings looked at her, then at Vinci. "Alright. One month in Alexander's time. We go, we learn, we experience. Then we come back safely."

Everyone nodded, the final decision sinking in.

"Okay," Einstein said, a small smile breaking across his face. "To Alexander the Great, for one month. Then we move on to the next adventure."

The group all turned, stepping closer to the prototype. Vinci's fingers flew across the controls, the light inside the device starting to swirl and pulse like a living star.

They each reached for their small backpacks ,packed with snacks, water, notebooks, and whatever little things they might need.

They stood there for a moment, taking in the glowing platform and all the possibilities it held. Their eyes shone with nervous excitement, but no one moved yet.

Einstein looked around at each of them, his voice strong but warm. "Tonight, we meet here again. This time, we time travel. Go home, pack anything you think you'll need ; snacks, water, extra clothes… maybe you won't like what they serve in 300 BC," he added with a soft laugh.

They all let out small laughs too, a bit shaky but real. One by one, they nodded, their minds already racing with what to bring and what might happen next.

They exchanged quick, breathless smiles. Each one of them felt it deep inside ;something big was coming.

Something that would change everything...
