Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Laws of Absolutes

The Shukure family, if you can call it that, is built on the foundation that each member has overwhelming power. Each member has an Absolute power.

Justice's ability was Absolute Fire. It was fire that was hot enough to melt and burn anything it touched, even things that shouldn't be able to be burned. The rumors are that he's even capable of burning concepts.

Gaileo's ability was called Absolute Martial Arts. It allowed him to master any martial arts he sees, as well as allowing him to adapt his fighting style to any opponent.

Kazuma Shukure's ability is mostly unknown and the Emperor, Hongwu Shukure's ability had long been forgotten, but their abilities were surely absolutes as well.

After Justice's absolute show of force, the army moved on to its next objective. They rode for the nation of Gosei, home to the mighty Gosei tribe. Their army consisted of heavy spearmen and axmen that were considered to be among the best on the continent.

Justice and Gaileo would be facing over 380,000 of these fierce mountain warriors in a stretch of land called Terrburg Forrest.

"They outnumber us, 380,000 to 220,000. They seem to be splitting their army into three, so we will do the same." Justice explained as he referred to the battle map in front of him and moved pieces that represented the armies.

"Their flanks both have armies of 100,000 white they keep 180,000 in their main center army. I'm sure they plan on using their main army to reinforce the flanks as they need it." Justice continued.

"What are we going to do?" Gaileo asked.

"We'll place 90,000 men on our left flank under the command of General Utro. With the numbers nearly even we should have an advantage." Justice replied. General Utro was Justice's right hand man and the most powerful man in his army apart from himself.

"I'll lead our main force in the center with 100,000 men. Deputy General Gaileo, I'm giving you the task of breaking through on the right flank with only the 30,000 men you have in your army." He continued.

"Do you really think we can hold them back while outnumbered 100,000 to 30,000?" Shion asked.

"No, in a prolonged battle of attrition you would inevitably lose." Justice answered. "In our entire army, your army has the greatest breakthrough power. I want you to use that power to break through their lines and attack the headquarters of the enemy's main army. Doing so would set their forces in disarray, giving us the opportunity to crush them."

"Of course, I'll breakthrough just as you ask me to." Gaileo said as he saluted his brother. "But… if you don't mind me asking, why is it even necessary for us to fight this battle? With your awesome power, couldn't you just wipe out the entire army yourself?" He asked.

"That's a good question. I'll respond by asking you a question of my own. Do you think it's easy to kill hundreds of thousands of men?" Justice asked.

"Well… I suppose so, if it's you." Gaileo replied.

"Yes, physically it would be an easy task for me to butcher this army just as I did the men in that castle. Just as I've done to many armies. However, I try to avoid doing so whenever possible. I don't relish in killing good men after all. The men of the Chasi tribe were brutal and ruthless killers. I had no qualms about striking down evil men like them with the hammer of justice, but most men I give the sporting chance of a pitched battle." Justice explained.

"Now, I want you men to make preparations for the battle tomorrow." Justice said as he dismissed them.

As the rest of the officers left, Gaileo stayed behind.

"Did you have another question?" Justice asked.

"Yeah actually I did." Gaileo replied.

"Well don't be shy. When we are alone like this we can simply speak as brothers rather than superior and subordinate. So don't feel a need to hold back, you can ask me anything." Justice said as he poured himself a cup of tea.

"It's about the former Great General Mutembo. If you care about justice so much, why didn't you ever do anything about him?" He asked.

Justice sighed, "That is another good question, and there were many times I petitioned our father to allow me to bring him to justice. Unfortunately it was to no avail." He replied.

"So you'd just let his atrocities go because that old man said so?" Gaileo said. It was the first time he had ever challenged his brother in any way. Even he was a bit surprised that he did so.

"I understand your frustration, but from my perspective it was the obvious choice." Justice replied.

"What do you mean?"

"I believe in the rule of law, I will always follow any command and always follow the letter of the law. If everyone were allowed to do as they pleased, then the empire would quickly dissolve into chaos." Justice said Gaileo wore a disapproving stare. "I believe that is where you and I differ. When you disagree with a law or command, your instinct is to disobey. On the other hand, I will follow even commands that I disagree with. My way of dealing with it is to rack up accomplishments so I can rise to a position that I can change the laws I disagree with."

"What I'm saying is, when I am Emperor, I will create a rule of law that's based on logic and reason. Laws that treat all Imperial citizens equally. With that I will end the chaos of this era.!"
