I was correct when I said my parents would come looking for me. I'm almost healed medically now. My parents also learned that day that I cannot be kept from my horse. He's helping me be at peace with everything. He's my therapist. Kane has taken me out on quite a few dates since I got out of the hospital. My parents are not thrilled that I'm dating someone during all this.
I had to go into the law firm's office to discuss some things about the case. Aaron was waiting for me in his office. I sat down across from him and greeted him. He greeted me, and we started to discuss things. Apparently, there is no attorney for my ex and his mom; they wanted to represent themselves, which was the first mistake. The second was their not wanting to pay any of the fines or medical bills accumulated in the case.
The date was set for a Wednesday in about a month. They are being given a month to pay the fines and medical bills, or else they both will have to serve jail time, and his father will not be allowed to intervene. As we were about to wrap up, Kale walked in with a file. He gave off a half smile. He knows the tension is thick between the families. His family is from old money, while mine is from building money.
My grandfather started the ranch with my grandmother right after they got married. My father was their first son, and they were proud to be raising their children in a vast place, even though there were five mouths in the house to feed and at least fifty cows and a bull on a tract of land consisting of two hundred acres that my grandfather bought on a loan. Once he got it running, the ranch started paying for itself. It's now a generational ranch that will probably get bigger with time. Aaron and Kale spoke low before Aaron looked at me.
"I'm afraid we have to cut this meeting short. There are a few bigger fish that want to jump headfirst into the fryer." He said. "I understand," I said as I stood up. "It was nice seeing you, Kale. I hope life is treating you well," I said before exiting the office. I walked out to my car and got in. Kane texted me asking if I was in town. I said that I was, and he asked if we could go see a movie. We went to see a movie and enjoyed a day together before he had to go to work tonight.
I can see myself being with him for the rest of my life. His blonde hair and blue eyes always get me. He's not much taller than me, and he is very muscular. He's not very broad either. At one point, he told me that he used to ride bulls and stopped before he could get seriously injured. He wanted the adrenaline rush. That's why he is working in EMS and fire. I've invited him out to the ranch, but he's stated that he is not ready yet. I'm not going to push him to come out to the ranch when I know that he will accept my offer when he is ready.
I left for the ranch when Kane had to go to work. My parents were not thrilled that I had spent most of the day in town with my boyfriend. I have a life off the ranch. They just don't see it.
