Chapter 2 - Chapter 1. The Beginning

"Uhm, five more minutes.."

"I said five more mi- Holy shit!" Frisk jolted upright, flailing wildly. Feathers fluttered, and with a startled squawk, a bird hopped off his head, flapping frantically as it took flight.

His heart pounded against his ribs as he scrambled backward through the grass, eyes wide and breath ragged.

"Why was a bird on my…" But the words died in his mouth as he finally saw his surroundings. He sat up slowly, brushing trembling hands through messy hair, his eyes following the bird as it rose steadily into a crystal-clear sky.

He was in an open field, sprawling lush grass stretching endlessly around him, blades bending gently in a soft, whispering breeze.

Tiny droplets of dew sparkled like gems in the early morning sunlight, scattering little rainbows at his feet.

Clusters of wildflowers dotted the expanse, bursts of yellows, purples, and blues adding splashes of vibrant color against the sea of green.

In the distance, majestic mountains rose, their rugged peaks cloaked in swirling mist and crowned by wisps of clouds.

Each ridge and valley was painted in hues of emerald and azure, shadows dancing and shifting as clouds drifted lazily across the sky. Birds circled leisurely, their distant cries echoing gently through the crisp, clear air.

Frisk's heart calmed as he absorbed the serene beauty, confusion slowly replacing panic.

"Where am I?"

/ - /

Turns out he was isekai'd. Well… obviously.

Frisk stood frozen in the vast expanse of grass, his mind still processing the absolutely bizarre situation he was in.

He tried to come up with some explanation, some reason as to how he was Isekai'd. His most recent memory was..

The void!

That's right! He was in a void for a while and then… a screen appeared before him. He tried to remember anything else about his life, but nothing came up.

That's concerning, he thought, but what's weird is that he didn't feel anything wrong about it. He was sure most people would panic at forgetting their entire lives, but strangely, he was not.

"Okay, enough of that." He shook his head; something more important required his attention.

The screen panel thing that showed up in front of him in the void. Frisk was sure that the panel looked like something from a video game. It even had the 2D-pixel style on the text.

If this was anything like the GAMER stories he liked to read-

"Wait, how do I remember that? Nope, not thinking about that now."

Where was he? Oh yeah, if this was anything like the GAMER stories he liked to read, then he must have some sort of UI to see his skills, right?

"Uhh ok… Let's try, STATUS!"

A panel appeared in front of him.

It worked!

ITEM.

STAT.

Huh.

It was a lot simpler than he expected. It just showed his name, level, HP, and M.

"What's an M?"

He questioned. Could it be money? Mana maybe? Magic would be pretty cool. But he had no way to verify those questions at the moment.

After focusing his eyes on the last two options, he moved his hand and pressed ITEM. The screen flickered before changing.

It's… just a black box?

Well now that he's thinking about it, that did make sense. He did just wake up in the middle of nowhere after being reincarnated. Why the hell would he have any items?

Well, except for the clothes he was wearing, but the point still stands.

There wasn't a "BACK" button, so he was confused about how to return to the previous screen. Maybe if he said it in his mind, the screen would change.

No harm in trying it out.

BACK

It worked.

"Well isn't that convenient"

Now, back at the previous screen, he was about to touch the STAT option before stopping himself.

"What if I just" STAT.

Looks like he can interact with the panel without actually making any physical contact with it. That was a relief. He didn't want to get weird looks saying STATUS all the time.

Were other people able to see the screen too? Just more questions upon questions.

Focusing back on the screen, it was exactly like any good old RPG status screen, albeit much simpler.

Everything looked pretty standard, but one thing stood out to him—well, two things, actually, but one was more interesting.

It said that his weapon was a stick.

"But I don't have a stick on me?" Then, a decently sized stick appeared on his right hand. "Ok, that is freaky."

It seems like he also has an inventory system. But wasn't the ITEM screen empty before?

Maybe it's like when you equip a weapon, it isn't technically inside your inventory anymore.

The other thing was "Mora." What the heck is Mora? It was measured by numbers, and the current amount is zero. So, it's something that he currently doesn't have.

Which is a lot of things so not exactly helpful.

After looking through all the options again, his mind was finally starting to calm down. Only now did he come to realize one major thing he had overlooked.

He recognized the UI from somewhere. He doesn't know how, but he has seen this before. It was so familiar. It looks kind of like-

"Holy crap"

It finally clicked in his head.

"I have an Undertale system!"

/ - /

"Ouch!"

Frisk shouted in pain as he rubbed his arm. Looking back at his status screen, he noted that his HP was still full.

"So small injuries like pinching don't make me lose HP then."

That was a relief. Of all the things he wanted to test out with his new 'system' -if he could call it that- was the HP mechanic.

Because having only 20 HP was really terrifying. The possibility of dying just from getting hit 20 times made him paranoid. Good thing that wasn't the case.

Another thing he wanted to test out was the AT and DF. He assumed it meant attack and defence, so he wanted to know why both were at zero.

Does he just not do any damage? Also does having zero DF means all attacks just go through him like butter? What does-

*drip*

A droplet of water fell on his face.

"Huh?"

Then another.

Followed by another.

Until it drizzled nonstop.

He was so focused on his new "system" that he didn't even realize that the clouds had turned dark. And now it has started to rain.

"God dammit…"

/ - /

"This is not how I expected my Isekai journey to start," Frisk muttered in irritation.

After rain started to fall, he tried to find some form of cover. He used a group of trees, and it worked for a while.

It was pretty comfy, too.

But then the rain intensified, and he was completely soaked.

He ran across the grass field for a good while but didn't find anything, until he came across a road that led to a bridge.

And that's where he currently is. Crouched down under a bridge, to take refuge from the pouring rain.

So this is what it feels like to be homeless…

This is just sad.

Ok, maybe he should look at the positive side. Now that he was stuck under a bridge, he had more time to think about what he would do later!

Yeah, positive thinking.

"Maybe I could go look for some people?" That's probably a good idea; staying out in the wilderness is no good, especially since he knew next to nothing about survival.

"I should probably go look for some food too."

Even if he wasn't hungry now, he would be later. Maybe there was some fruit growing nearby. It was unlikely that there was, but it wouldn't hurt to look.

He could also go-

*SNAP*

What was that?! Startled, Frisk turned around to find the source of the sound and found… a blue blob.

"Huh? The creature stared at him from the other end of the bridge with its big oval eyes. It looks like he was also surprised by his appearance.

Oh my god, it's a slime! He yelled in his mind, it looked fucking adorable. With its curious big eyes looking in his direction.

Upon closer inspection, he realized that the slime was made from water. Was it also seeking shelter under the bridge?

"But you're made from water? Why are you hiding from it?" The creature did not respond, not because it didn't want to, but because it literally had no mouth.

Suddenly, the slime started bouncing towards him in a very adorable manner.

"Aww~"

Maybe he could take this thing with him on his adventure. It's like those stories where the MC gets a companion at the beginning of their journey who becomes OP!

Yeah, and he could name it Fred or something- What is it doing?

It stopped right in front of him and is now flat. Well, it's not exactly flat, but imagine a water balloon lying on the ground, kind of spread out.

At Least it looks cute- It tackled him straight in the chest.

CRACK

"AGH-!" The slime's unexpected tackle was strong enough to push him backward off his feet, and he fell down on the wet ground with a painful thud.

Still dazed, he slowly got back to his feet to look at the slime. It still had that blank expression even after attacking him.

"What the he-" *COUGH* *COUGH* "H-huh?"

He felt something wet drip out of the side of his mouth. Quickly wiping his face, he saw blood. Frisk's eyes widened as he realized that one tackle from the slime did so much damage.

How strong is that thing?! Wait, my HP!

Taking a few steps back from the slime, he quickly opened his status.

"I'm sorry WHAT?!"

One attack from a slime took away 1/4th of his HP?! What fucking bullshit is this?! He flinched when he saw the slime start bouncing in his direction again.

"I am not gonna die to a slime!"

He was not going to stick around and risk dying to a slime of all things. Quickly turning around, holding the spot he was tackled in pain, and ran back into the pouring rain.

He didn't know where he was going to go, but he was going to make sure that it was far away from that killer slime.

/ - /

Frisk's heart hammered against his ribs as he sprinted blindly through the sheets of rain.

Each breath he took was painful, pain pulsing especially hard in the spot where the slime hit him.

Behind him, the slime's squelching sounds faded into the distant patter of rain, but he didn't want to risk running into it again, so he made sure to run extra far.

He wiped water from his eyes and slowed just enough to scan the horizon again. The landscape had shifted from endless plains to something more open.

In front of him stretched a long beach, waves crashing fiercely against pale sand. The smell of salt filled the air, mingling with the relentless downpour.

"This *pant* should be *pant* far enough," he muttered breathlessly.

Now he needed to find another place to hide from the rain. His only options were to go to the right or left side of the shoreline and hopefully find something.

Choosing right, he walked through the pouring rain before he saw something in the distance. A dim shape caught his eye, blurred by rain but unmistakably the outline of a wooden structure.

Frisk squinted, stepping forward carefully, shoes sinking slightly into the wet sand. There, beyond the beach and a little up on a mountain, stood a small wooden house.

"People!" Relief surged through him. He could finally get some shelter and finally talk to someone!

All he needs to get there is to go through a bridge.

"oh."

The only obstacle between him and the house was a crooked, ancient looking wooden bridge, barely hanging together, planks visibly rotted and ropes fraying.

He couldn't see it clearly because of the distance and rain, but he swears that the bridge was missing its middle part.

Hopefully that's just my eyes.

Just as he was about to start heading towards the bridge, he saw something just in the distance

It was a flicker of icy blue light that… seemed to be moving? Squinting his eyes, Frisk spotted a strange, frosted flower at the edge of the shore, surrounded by several bouncing, pale-blue slimes.

He would have called them cute if he didn't have 1/4th of his HP taken from a slime. Having what looked to be a sentient ice flower, surrounded by ice slimes of all things, definitely screamed danger.

Maybe he could go back into the grass and go around them, then go back to the shoreline after. All he needs to do is be very quiet-

The flower's head turned towards him.

Uh oh.

His pulse quickened, ready to run to the opposite direction when the flower suddenly sank into the sand, disappearing from view.

"Where did it—?"

The ground beneath Frisk trembled violently, sand exploding upwards as the flower erupted directly beneath him.

"Argh!"

Pain erupted through his body as he was hurled backwards, his chest burning with agony. He crashed onto the rain-soaked sand, vision swimming, the metallic taste of blood thick in his mouth.

Status!

"I.. Need.. To… Run!," he wheezed desperately, struggling to rise up, arms trembling beneath his weight.

Turning his head towards the flower, his eyes widened when he saw it start to glow. Its petals rise to the sky before plunging into the ground.

Spikes of ice erupted from the sand, shooting upwards in his direction.

Frisk barely had time to register the piercing cold as a spike tore through him, an agonizing shock jolting through his spine.

His mouth opened, but no sound came out. Looking down at his stomach, he saw the spike cleanly pierced through his abdomen. Blood oozing from the wound.

No… *drip* Not like this… *drip* Please!

Then it wasn't long until the pain started to subside, then everything became numb, as darkness seeped rapidly into the edges of his vision.

I want to live!

Then darkness.

"H-huh?" Somehow, he opened his eyes, though he had no eyes to open. He was floating once more, back in the endless void.

Suddenly, a familiar screen flickered to life in front of him, illuminating the emptiness.

His nonexistent heart pounded. There was no debate—his will answered before he even consciously chose.

CONTINUE glowed bright gold.

Then the world was white.

*GASP!*

With a violent gasp, Frisk's eyes snapped open. He jolted upwards, his hand instinctively going to his abdomen only to feel it whole.

The wound was gone.
