Jon and Slyvia continued to look at the comet, unblinkingly, for few moments. The brightness of the comet had dimmed but it was still prominent in the night sky.
It was an awkward and an oddly hilarious scene. Two people stood facing each other, with their arms horizontally outstretched, flames dancing in their palms.
One of them was completely nude, with five dragons perched on his body. And all seven, Jon, Slyvia and the 5 dragons had their necks craned upward toward the sky.
A loud screech from the obsidian black dragon snapped them back to themselves.
Jon willed the flames on his palms to vanish. He then issued a silent command to the dragons, and they leapt from his body, landing gracefully on the ground.
Though they could not fly properly yet, they were able to flutter their wings enough to descend safely from a height. Compared to the dragons Daenerys had hatched in the canon, these were already much larger and more developed.
The red black one, who had been named Drogon in the canon and which had been the largest of the three was nearly twice the size of his counterpart. And the other two were also twice their cannon counterpart.
Jon did not know whether their final size would also be double of what was seen in canon, but it was clear these dragons were going to be significantly bigger than their original versions.
"What was that?" Slyvia asked, as she craned her neck once again toward the glowing streak in the sky.
Jon shrugged before summoning a cloak from his storage bracelet and wrapping it around himself.
"Are you sure you do not know?" she asked again, narrowing her eyes.
"I know," Jon replied truthfully, "but I am not sure if it is true. Different cultures and regions have their own legends about a red comet appearing in the sky."
"Some see it as an omen of war, others as a sign of victory, and some as a harbinger of pain and sorrow," Jon explained. "In the North, they believe it marks the end of summer. Followers of the Red God see it as the sign of the arrival of the prince who was promised, the Azor Ahai."
"And there are a few who believe it heralds the return of dragons to the world," he added in the last.
Slyvia's eyes widened slightly in surprise.
"Well, at least one of them is true," she said, her gaze drifting to the dragons who were now huddled together, clumsily trying to climb over one another. Playful creatures.
Jon shrugged. "Might be. But legends are legends."
"And what is this?" she asked, lifting her hand as flames reappeared briefly on her palm before vanishing again. "Another legend? Do not tell me you do not know. I know you know."
"Ah!" Jon chuckled. "It is quite simple, really."
"This," he said, raising his own palm and flames appeared on it, "is my legacy, the power of my bloodline."
"Though I am not entirely certain," he continued, "I believe that since I shared my blood essence with you, and now that I have awakened my legacy, you have awakened it as well."
Slyvia nodded slowly. She understood. Probably.
"Arrange some meat for them," he said, eyeing the five dragons. The creatures seemed to understand his words and the wobbled toward him with excited chirps and screeches.
"Heh," Jon chuckled at their reaction, as he bent down and scratched the head of the black dragon.
Seeing this, the other four craned their necks toward him in anticipation. He smiled again and moved to pet the next dragon.
Meanwhile, Slyvia, despite the swirl of questions in her mind, turned and went to arrange raw meat for the adorable beasts.
"I need to think of names for you," he muttered and the dragons screeched in excitement.
Jon, however, found himself lost in thought over what had just happened.
His dragons were far larger than Daenerys's hatchlings had been and appeared far healthier. The black one was already the size of a domestic dog.
Even more remarkable was the bond. He had an unprecedented level of command and control over them. It was as if a connection had been forged. A deep connection. A link.
His mere thoughts were enough to direct them. He was not just their master, he was their father. And because of this bond, warging into them would be almost natural. Effortless.
And then there was the flame. The greatest legacy of the Targaryen bloodline.
He had never known of or had anticipated awakening such a power. He had always felt that something had been holding him back from attaining his bloodline powers.
For the longest time, he believed it was related to the Stark side of his bloodline, specifically the greenseeing ability. The only time he had tapped into that power had been at the Tower of Joy, likely due to the Weirwood tree present there.
But now he understood. That knot within him, that sense of something being held back, had been for both his bloodlines. Now, his Targaryen legacy had fully awakened.
He was a true dragon rider. He shared a connection with these creatures that allowed him to guide them as easily as moving his own limbs.
And then there was the fire. A raw, sacred power he had never even known existed within him. His flames were not some ordinary fire. It was something different.
But that was not all.
There was still another legacy left to come. Dragon dreams. The power to glimpse the future.
He had not experienced it yet. But Jon knew, it was coming. Not consciously. Not in a way he could control.
And when it did, everything would change.
And this brought his thoughts to the power of the Stark bloodline.
That feeling, it still lingered. The sense of something being held back, something obstructing his access to the full extent of his Northern legacy. He did not know what to do about it.
Hatching the dragons had shattered the knot that had bound his Targaryen powers. It had awakened fire, bond, command. But what would untie the knot of the Stark side? He could not think of something very specific.
Bond with a northern beast? Ghost, the direwolf, he would meet in the future?
But had he not already used warging on many animals? So, what more was he supposed to do? He could not think of many answers.
And then there was another equally bigger question. What were the full powers of the Stark bloodline?
Greenseeing, Warging were the only thing he knew. Was it all? Surely not. Not for a line as old and steeped in mystery as House Stark.
If he thought by the logic of the Targaryen Legacy he had unlocked, the ancient Starks too had been magic wielders in some form. At least, as per the legends.
And with fire dancing in his palm, he was inclined to believe in those legends.
He just needed to unhook the knot to wield that magic. That power of his Stark bloodline.
