Chapter 8 - CH 8: The Sandwich

Before i start the chapter i kind of want to clarify stuff. He is in west blue. Thats where Ohara is. Year is 1505. I struggle a lot with the timeline, but thats 5 years after Rogers execution, and i calculated it to be around 2 years after the Ohara incident, if we assume Robin was 8 years old during that time. She is now 11. I used that incident as Benchmark for the timeline and figured its a good time for him to appear due to the active seas. It's also the year in which Luffy should have been born.

My math was :

Ohara incident robin age = 8

Canon robin before timeskip= 28

Canon timeline before timeskip = 1522

1522- 20= 1502 (Ohara incident year)

I decided to drop Ainz 3 years after that. If ohara still existed when he arrived, he'd have holed up there.

I also want to clarify Ainz stance on things. He dislikes the notion of pirates. He understands the craving of adventure, but he got dropped into a world which is a Paradise compared to his old world. He is biased and has high expectations, essentially thinking that the world government is, not necessarily fair, (he understands there will be corruption) but he believes it to ensure peaceful and good Lives.

So seeing pirates ruining those things, puts him in a bad mood.

And really, canonically, pirates suck. The governement sucks too, but its better than the pirates. Luffy and VERY few others are exceptions. Ohh, btw. I'm gonna make a character spreadsheet for ainz levels. Feel free to drop a few original ideas. Ainz only has 50 confirmed job classes. I'm gonna add a few Classes. Its not important, but it might be nice to have. So please drop suggestions for classes please.

Well, that was a bit long. I hope it doesnt ruin your day. Your reward for reading this is ..... a new chapter :)

CH 8

It was a clear night. The stars, which the overlord had found himself enamored with, were lighting the way as the ship slowly traveled through the sea.

Ainz stood on the deck and observed the work of his [lesser water elemental], which had surrounded the ship and pulled it onwards.

He had been told about the bad state of the ship in the earlier evening. The villagers had done their best to stabilize the bow (which he had destroyed), but they were unable to do anything about the sails... because there were no sails anymore...

That meant the ship would be unable to move until they found a replacement. The villagers had been fairly calm while explaining that, something he was sure his human self would never have managed.

They did, however, request that he stay.

They knew that he was capable of travel even without a ship, given his impromptu arrival, and while they did not know how, they had mentioned that he must have had a powerful devil fruit.

"Another thing to figure out..."

A deep sigh escaped him. The little girl, Emi, had simply asked him if he really had a devil fruit, and Ainz, not knowing what that was, had pulled out a 600 IQ move.

"What do you think? Do I have a Devil Fruit?"

He had asked the question in the vicinity of the other villagers, making sure to look at them in order to involve them in the question and to adopt what he considered a playful tone.

"Hmm. I don't know, tell me!!"

That had been the answer he had gotten.

His 600 IQ plan had failed, and looking to escape that question he had no answer to, he glanced at the other villagers.

Luckily for him, one of them started talking.

"Emi, you should not pressure him into talking about things he doesn't want to talk about."

Ainz had cheered internally before he reminded himself he still did not know what devil fruits were. He was glad to have been saved from Emi's question, but he was getting impatient, and his careful proddings seemed to lead nowhere.

The man then turned to him. He seemed nervous, not panicked but rather reverent.

"Please forgive her, sir... Lord Ainz. Devil Fruits are a bit of a myth, so we are all a bit curious."

Ainz, seeing another opportunity, decided to try again.

"So you have never seen a devil fruit to this day?"

The man hesitated a little bit. "Well, we have never seen Devil Fruits themselves, but you are now the second Devil Fruit user we have encountered." The man chuckled nervously while talking.

'Hmmm. So they met a devil fruit user before me.'

Then it hit him.

"The chicken?" The villager nodded. He then told him about how the terrifying chicken had destroyed their village, but Ainz was not listening.

'I completely forgot that guy. He was a human who could transform into a chicken. That's the power of fruits? No, Emi asked me what ability I had, so that means devil fruits can grant different abilities. So it works like a Gacha pack? You just eat a fruit and get a random power'?

The girl in question had stayed silent and was quietly standing next to him while inching closer to his robes with a gleam in her eyes.

He had noticed her and simply ignored what was happening. He did not want to lash out at a child, although he would be lying if the idea of her touching his divine robes did not bother him.

He turned his attention back to the man, who had finished his story. Not having listened, he simply gave the man his condolences for this tragic event.

"HYAH!"

Emi had latched onto his robes, feeling the material and mumbling about how soft it was. Ainz froze up and had to refrain from kicking her away, especially after he noticed the remains of food on her person.

'It seems my mental preparation was not enough....Please let go...'

Those were his thoughts, yet he did not push her away or say anything. He simply stared at her, not knowing what to do. Emi's mom quickly came running and pulled her away while simultaneously apologizing to him and scolding the girl.

The seasoned role player quickly recovered and returned to being a magnanimous and friendly overlord who simply told her not to worry and that a "child's curiosity was a sign of its life and its happiness." Something he had picked up from Yamaiko.

All of this had happened in the evening, and Ainz had retired to the back of the ship after that. Most of the villagers were resting, although some of them were on watch. He found it to be a bit pointless given the darkness, but it probably helped them feel safer.

He had come to understand that the ship would not move, which was obvious given the lack of sails. The villagers were planning on stitching a makeshift sail out of clothes and rags, but they needed to rest before that.

But Ainz really did not feel like waiting for that to happen. So when most people had gone to sleep, he had summoned a small elemental, one that was rarely used in battle for someone at his level. The [lesser water elemental] was rather weak in the game, being strong against physical attacks but useless against the most basic kinds of magic.

Sure, it had a few tricks, but it mostly dealt blunt and slash damage, and the fact that it was a [lesser] water elemental made it usable for lower tiers only.

But it was great for the particular situation he was in. He already knew that his summons had a lot more freedom than in the game, and their lore had also significantly boosted their strength and abilities. The [lesser water elemental] had the ability to merge with bodies of water, although in a limited fashion. It basically became stronger the more water there was. Yggdrasil swamps or lakes used to simply give them a boost and more range, but in real life, the water elemental was boosted by an equivalent of 15 levels.

[Lesser Elementals] were usually Level 5-20, depending on their summoner's specialization or items, and one of Ainz's specializations happened to be summoning.

Level 35

The [lesser water elemental] had nearly reached the strength of a regular [elemental].

Ainz raised his imaginary brow at that. What would a [greater elemental] or even a [primal elemental] become with such a boost? A summon basically surpassing its caster?

But in the end, the newfound strength of his summon was irrelevant, because its job was to slowly and quietly push the ship to an island known as Soja Island, to which it complied without hesitation.

(Imagine the summon similar to the swamp elementals used by the Lizardmen. Just bigger and more flexible. Basically an eternally moving mass of water with 2 small whirlpools serving as eyes. )

The Elemental spread its body behind the ship and created a gentle current, while dissipating incoming waves around the ship.

Ainz just leaned on the railing, and allowed the flame in his eyes to extuingish.

Emi woke up alone. She had wanted to share a bed with her mom, but her mom had not wanted to, needing some time alone. She didn't really understand why, but it wasn't a problem for her. She wasn't a baby after all.

She stood up and took a look around. She had shared a cabin with other women and kids. She had managed to talk to a few and even make new friends!

Most were already awake, stretching and leaving the cabin and she quickly followed, latching on to one of her newfound friends.

Outside, they were greeted by sunlight, temporarily blinding them. The men were already there, gathered around materials, and discussing how to handle them. The food had been organised the day prior, in order to make it last as long as possible. They had sorted it in a way she did not understand, basically telling her when and what to eat. The meat was first, which was a great thing in her opinion. She was allowed to eat a lot, which was strange. She thought they would only give out rations.

She noticed her friend, Ainz standing at the same place he had stood yesterday before she had gone to sleep. Had he not slept? Didn't look like it. He probably protected the ship the entire night!

She happily skipped over to him, while taking a bite out of heir snack. He had noticed her and slowly turned towards her.

"Mhm, Hen'lo Ainsch!"

Speaking with full mouth was hard...

He recoiled and put a little distance between them, which proved to be useless as she quickly closed the distance. He sighed.

"Good morning Emi. Did you have a good nights sleep?"

"Yea! Did you manage to protect the ship?"

She already knew the answer to that, but wanted to know if something happened!

"There was no need for me to do anything. The night was calm."

Ohh...

"And why am I allowed to eat so much? I thought we have limited food?"

"You are eating the food which will go bad if not eaten soon..."

Ohhh... He was smart.

She was about to ask him about the creation and inevitable end of the universe when she heard a scream coming from the other side of the ship.

"LAND AHOY!"

Gerard had been one of the first to wake up this morning. He had started to organise the materials and to prepare the food everyone was going to eat. There was a lot of food which would go bad. The pirates had apparently not known or cared on how to properly conserve food...

He had asked some villagers to salt and brine the pork, and throw away whatever had already Spoiled. Food was not much of an Issue for them, given the amount of life chickens they now had, it gave them a lot of time. Water and beverage was another issue, there only was alcohol on the ship, but there was no helping that. He just knew that many people were more than alright with that.

He had already left some grain for the chickens, and was now simply inspecting the "fixed' bow.

He still wondered what exactly had caused this kind of damage. He had noticed, heard and seen the explosion when it happened and it obsiously was because of that man, Ainz Ooak Gown. Maybe the Devil Fruit of Lord Ainz operated on fire? If it was a Logia, he would even be able to fly with it!

The man in question had obviously not been comfortable in talking about it, good thing Sally's husband had intervened. The little Emi really did not know when to stop.

Snapping out his musings, he walked to the front of the ship, marvelling at the lack of movement. He was not a man of the sea, being the son of a mayor, and had expected more movement. He stared our at the sea and noticed the strong wind.

'If we finish the Sail today, me might cover some good distance with this wind.'

Its strange though, shouldn't there be more waves with such wind? He would have dismissed these thoughts on any normal day, but this time, he had advocated to take responsibility and he prefered looking ignorant over dooming everyone out of negligence and pride.

"Can one of you guys come over here real quick?"

Several of them dropped their work and walked over to him

"Do you need something"; "Something wrong boss?"; Yoo, whats upp mah man."

He sighed, ignoring the last mans strange words and attire. He had only asked for one person, instead 3 people showed up.

Whatever, no need to dwell on that.

" Its windy out here, yet there are no waves. Im no Seafarer, but thats not normal, is it?"

The 3 guys quickly took a look, before exchanging unsure glances. One of them answered.

"I honestly haven't a clue. Been fishing countless times with my da, but never seen this. Don't think thats normal tho. Its like the waves be gone when close to the ship."

So it really isn't normal...

He narrowed his eyes, he could've sworn he just saw a small whirlpool RISE out of the water, before disappearing.

"I heard stuff like that mostly happens in Grandline..."

"Well, unless the Grandline decided to move to West blue, this shouldn't be happening."

Gerard felt a Headache coming in. An unsolvable Mystery was not the right way to start his day.

Turning around, he noticed the women and the kids coming out on the deck. His Headache grew when he saw Emi take some food and look around for a certain someone.

Thinking of it, Lord Ainz had not been seen taking a bite ever since meeting him...

He dimissed that thought and froze.

"LAND AHOY!"

His shout caught the attention of everyone on the ship. Even Ainz turned his Head, although his reaction was noticeably calmer than everyone else's.

It was strange. They had estimated the next island to be about 2 days worth of travel with good wind and had now arrived in the vicinity of an Island due to natural currents?

Yea, no.

That being said, Gerard did have a suspect in mind...

There had been a certain someone who never entered any cabins during the night.

Approaching him, he overheard him talking to Emi.

"Oh, it seems we have reached our destination. The sea must favor us."

That statement did not alleviate any suspicion, but he didn't even know how Lord Ainz could have achieved such a feat.

Ahhh, why is it always confusion...
