Chapter 3 - My First Two Skills

Saito rested for the night after pondering on the events of the previous day, it was quite the chaotic day. Nonetheless the morning arrives without any other issues.

[Ding ding!]

Skills have been calibrated and will work as intended now. Let us visit the first skill tree, Good luck. Due to the nature of your system, it is predetermined for the first few skills what you get!

Once level 5+ is achieved, you will gain the ability to select from a variety of skills.

[Good Luck Tree]

[Skills Currently Unlocked]

• Lucky Step

Automatically avoids minor dangers—stepping just past a trap, dodging a car, avoiding spilled coffee that would delay him.

• Favorable Impression

First impressions always go in the MC's favor unless explicitly sabotaged.

These skills were determined to be a good option for your first two skills, certain skills will have cooldowns while others work at all times. Skills with cooldowns will often have an * next to them in the event of it being a skill with such a thing.

Be prepared in the future for rankings of skills too. Skills and stats will also require different points!

————

That was definitely a lot of information to take in but those skills seem quite useful for me to have right now. So neither of those seem to have a cooldown so would my Dodge Chance even matter then?

I guess that will be something to test out during a real situation at some point in time, just need to wait for the right situation to occur.

I'm pretty sure I still have points to use from leveling up but I'll save them for now until I hit level 5 I guess. Then I'll be able to utilize them a bit more freely without any sort of system guidance.

All the different chances I'll have is going to change my life in various ways but will that influence my relationships too? That favorable impression seems to be something that could do that.

It would be better to find out in person, so off to a different public area. I usually prefer to hangout at the parks since they give me peace of mind but I don't know if it'll be a good idea after everything that happened.

I just barely managed to avoid a piece of debris that came flying towards me in that damn park.

He takes out his phone and checks his bank account balance as he debates his next decision.

{Savings}

$200.00

---------

That's about all I have left after the bills came out and even that's not very much to go off of for the week. I've definitely burned through most of my funds that I had left from a few odd jobs.

My gambling chances aren't really that high right now so would it even be worth it to try to gamble?

[Quest Active]

Spend $125.00 on gambling.

Reward: Gambling Chances will go up a random percentage, two skill points will be awarded, and $80.00 bonus if you win three times before reaching $125.00.

Do you accept? Y/N.

Y.

-----

It seems I'll be spending more of my money than I expected after all, but maybe it'll be worth it. It's definitely a high risk high reward type of situation so I'll be risking everything I have for this.

If I didn't have the system I'd probably still do this at some point or another just to try my luck in getting some money back.

Saito makes his way down to one of the smaller gambling arcades, a place that tries to appeal more to younger people. They design the machines to entice younger adults to them.

Most will fall for it since they believe they can win based off of the images displayed by the machines.

"Shardsteps Games!" What a name for a gambling arcade. Shardstep is one of the heroes in this society too, but he isn't amongst the top ten right now.

I believe his hero rank is 57 right now since he's still growing with popularity and strength. He's still blasted all over different shows and radio broadcasts though since he's an up and coming hero.

I don't like him much though, he kind of seems like an asshole from the way he acts on all those forms of media.

Inside the building Saito could see all the different machines, luckily he didn't need to withdraw any money since most are equipped with a special card reader. It's dangerous but most don't care enough to think about it.

Time to waste my money on a bunch of machines in hopes that I'll actually gain something from it all. I don't really know where I'll land after all this is said and done but maybe I'll be positive.

Crank. He watches as the slots turn over and over again.

-$20

$60.00 gone already and I haven't won a single time yet— the only way to get the bonus is to win three times before reaching the set number. My chances are like any other person right now though so I need to keep trying if I want to get them up right?

I've never been a fan of slots before but right now I need them to be on my side or else it'll be a waste of time.

(Author here: Gambling is not always advised and is something that can result in addiction, our mc is different. He's got a system with literal luck. Anyway, just a heads up so I don't get beaten by Wn gods.)

Ring! Ding! Ring!

+$45.00

+$20.00

+$5.00

I can't believe I actually won most of that money back and in a row at that!! This system really might be a way for me to turn things around in my life after all. I'll be able to complete this quest with no problem after all.

A few more spins and he manages to complete the quest with no problem, leaving him with more money than he originally had.

[Quest Completed]

Rewards given: Gambling Chances will go up a random percentage, two skill points will be awarded, and $80.00 bonus if you win three times before reaching $125.00.

[Gamble] 10% -> 35%

Skill points awarded and $80.00 bonus has been granted.

I went from $200.00 to about $865.00. I won quite a bit in between while also achieving the bonus. I've made a pretty good profit today so that will help me get through the next few weeks if I do it wisely.

My gambling chances have also gone up tremendously as well.
