"Come on now, I don't remember telling you to stand—did I?" the king asked, still smiling.
"Have your seat boys" he said, sitting down and they all followed suit.
The hall was literally a grave yard with only the flickering of candles breaking the eerie silence. The king sat on his throne, and his gaze swept the throne room.
"The grim reality that has befallen diagon was indeed an unforeseen circumstance." the king said, breaking the silence, but this time he wasn't smiling.
"I myself was taken aback, on hearing what was left of diagon. I know you'll all be wondering why this had to happen to you." they was a long pause before he started again.
"Diagon has always been a small harmless clan that has lived in peace since time. They were blessed by Odin with a very rare gift, the ability to talk to dragons and their skin acting as an armor against flame. This gift of yours rendered every fire mage across the globe useless. Eventually men got greedy and the three world powers came together for the downfall of diagon. According to my scout, they found a way to steal the dragon your people awakened." He stopped and took a deep breath.
"As time went by, so did the age of the dragon, till they were no more. Having a dragon on your side during the time of war can be a useful asset" for a while he paused and smiled again.
"Am sure the world power scout will find out sooner or later that I saved some diagons, and it may result to war. You may be wondering why I saved you in the first place" he paused. "my wife, she was from diagon. Though she is no more, I am sure she'll be happy with my decision" the king said smiling.
"For approximately seven to ten years they would have some control over the dragon, by that time I would like you all to get strong, to avenge your brothers and sisters and honor the dead. Join me, and together we shall create an army for the dead."
******
"On our feet!" came a loud voice.
On hearing the captain they all jumped down from their beds, standing upright.
The captain was a huge muscular man, with an almond face. He had untidy black shoulder length hair, and a small scar ran across his dim purple eyes.
"Get dressed and meet me outside." he ordered as he walked out of the room, but suddenly came to a halt on hearing a loud snore. He slowly turned his head in disbelief, and saw Sam sleeping on his bed, snoring.
He had tried everything he could to make Sam a better warrior, but it was all in vain, even after all the intense training, Sam was still as fat as ever, Malcon could see how frustrated the captain was just by looking at Sam.
"Please… wake the lad up." the captain sighed and walked out of the room.
Malcon walked briskly towards Sam.
"Hey, Sam." he called, tapping Sam fat sweaty skin, but he didn't wake up.
"Wake up sam." Malcon called this time hitting him.
"Is he dead?" someone shouted in the crowd, and everyone laughed.
"Sam!" Malcon shouted, hitting him harder this time around. His eyes slowly opened, he sat down on his bed and gazed at everyone, as though he was trying to remember where he had met them.
"Is breakfast ready?" he asked, rubbing his brown watery eyes, And the whole room boomed with laughter.
"Get dressed, Captain Wayne has asked us to meet him outside." Malcon informed Sam who was still rubbing his eyes.
When they had all gotten dressed, they went outside where they waited for the captain.
It was six in the morning and the weather was miserably cold, even with the thick black cloth they wore, they could barely stop shivering.
Few minutes later captain Wayne and the vice captain walked out with the girls following them closely.
The vice captain was a beautiful young lady, with waist length red hair that lay down gently across her back, and her red eyes held an air of deadly amusement. Malcon could still remember the incident that happened a month ago, when Sam carried his fat body and ran to the dining hall, panting as he came to a halt.
guys!" he called.
"I…I saw…the…captain and vice… kissing," he announced, leaving the hall quite.
"No… that is not possible… miss lisa would never cheat on me." Lavander spike up, crying. Malcon never understood how he fell in love with someone way older than him.
The rumor about the captain and the vice dating spread like wildfire, but as time went by so did the rumors, though few people still liked to talk about it when topics for gossip were scarce.
The captain clapped his hands in noticing that the boy's attention was completely averted.
"Today would make it a year since you started your training here on my command, and this would be your last training. But today's task would be a little bit different." the captain said with a malicious smile on his face.
"First of all, go to the store and get your bucket, two buckets per person." he instructed.
When they got to the store they quickly took their bucket and returned as fast as they could, nobody dared keep the captain waiting. Except,of course sam.
"You're not complete, where is Sam?" the captain asked, annoyed.
They all turned, and in a distance could see Sam struggling to move his body, he had the two buckets with him and was panting as he ran towards them. On seeing him they all started laughing, except the captain who had a worn expression on his face, in all his life he had never seen anybody like Sam.
"Sorry I am a few seconds late." Sam apologized, fixing himself somewhere.
"A few seconds!" the captain repeated, and everyone continued laughing.
"Your task today is very simple." the captain said, breaking the laughter.
"go down to the river and fill up your bucket. then carry to the top of the hill, make sure to maintain a shoulder length while carrying the bucket, if your hand mistakenly drops I will know and you will start all over, if as much as a drop of water falls from your bucket you will start all over."
Without wasting any more time, they all ran toward the river, just that this time no one cared to laugh at Sam. They had to get to the river first and at the same time have enough concentration to carry it to the top of the hill, without losing even a drop of water and at the same time, maintaining a shoulder length.
Dipping his two buckets into the river Malcon filled it up, and slowly raised it up to a shoulder level, taking a deep breath, he started his long but slow journey up the hill. Looking up to the sky he could see the Captain's Summon flying above them. It was a big black bird and he normally used it to spy on them during tasks like this.
Seeing the captain summon made him remember his. Everybody born with magic has a high tendency that he was born with a summon, and as you grow in power you awaken your summon. But diagon awakens by age. Once you're fifteen, you start to feel a burning sensation in your stomach and the awakening process begins, and if not taken care of, the awakening can kill a person. but ever since the attack on diagon, Malcon had never felt his summon, out of the twenty-five Malcon was the only one who had not awakened, that was one thing even Sam had he didn't. Though the captain had forbidden them from bringing out their summon, he said he didn't want to see the house on fire, but a few times when they were alone, they would converse with their dragon tongue.
Malcon muscles were all numb and for a second he thought of dropping the bucket, but when he looked up he saw the captain summon sitting on a tree branch, staring at him.
"fuck." he coursed under his breath. And continued his journey.
"Who do you think would win?" vice captain Lisa asked.
"Adrian." he answered confidently.
"Why Adrian?"
"Since the boy has no elemental abilities, he has trained himself devotedly in his physical strength. What about you? Who do you think would win?." the captain asked.
"emm…if it will be a guy, I will go for bane but if it is a girl then Megan." she answered.
"I understand you picked Megan because she is the strongest female, but why bane?" he asked.
"just instinct I guess."
The captain couldn't help but chuckle "instinct." he repeated
