Chapter 1 - In a Dying Loop

High in the skies, the sun shone brightly, bringing vitality to all things. Dark clouds broke apart, with sunlight piercing through them. The smell of rain lingered in the air, an earthy and natural smell.

Underneath the heavens, lay a city sprawling a great area. Large buildings, each with a specific purpose in mind, dotted the cityscape. The streets were wide, enough for five carriages to travel side by side, and paved with enchanted concrete. Shops lined up evenly on both sides of the street, with flags flying briskly in the wind.

The blood and soul of any city, the people came in many shapes and sizes, Elves, Dwarves, Orc, Giants and many other races. In the past, such a scene would be hard to come about, but now, no one finds it alarming.

Bright smiles donned the faces of the citizens. If it was a couple years ago, there would be worry instead of joy and hope. Before their great Lord descended, the cruelty of the world kept such happiness at bay.

Many days they have woken up, scared everything is a lie, everything will be taken from them and they will return to being hunted and enslaved. However, as the days pass, their future remains bright and clear.

As people walked through the streets, massive shadows moved overhead. Looking up, one would see massive creatures from folklore flying through the skies, Dragons, Griffins and many other legendary creatures.

Had this been a few years ago, people would have marveled at the sight but now, they were used to it. These creatures once sat outside the reach of the majority of people but now they were brought down from their pedestal.

Standing on the balcony of the Royal Palace of E-Rantel, stood an undead wearing jet-black academic gown adorned with gold and violet edges. Within his ribcage, a red orb pulse with an ominous aura.

This skeleton was no stranger to the beings of this world. If anyone saw him, all would bow and praise the name of Ainz Ooal Gown, the Supreme One of the New World!

Lord Ainz, watched his citizens with interest. Before his arrival, none of these races ever dreamed of living together as war was a constant, and the ones who truly suffered are ones without a voice.

He sheltered them, not out of a sense of justice but because of the NPCs. He wanted them to have more and see more and in the end, Touch-Me-san's justice prevailed. He had power, so he protected the weak.

"Still, even with everything at my disposal, no trace of my friends was found. It seems I am truly alone in this world." Ainz sighed with a hint of loneliness before it disappeared just as quickly as it came.

No, he has been in this world for two decades and while he felt occasionally lonely, he did have people who he cared deeply for. His family, the NPCs, has always been there.

If I was all alone, would everything happen the same? He often thought of this and felt most of his actions stem around Nazarick and the NPCs. Even though he stands at the peak of the world, it was never his true self, just another persona that everyone believed in.

"Mhm?" Turning his head, Ainz felt strange. He felt a fluctuation of a teleportation spell behind him. However, that should be impossible. Many different wards and runes covered the Royal Palace, including a permanent [Dimensional Lock].

Pulling out the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown, Ainz relaxed slightly, as he cast [Detect Magic].

Many items in his perception suddenly had a color attached to it, showing different item grades and magic tier.

In a corner of the room, invisible to the naked eye, a slit in space trembled faintly. If not for his acute senses, Ainz did not think he would notice. This is coming from him, a level 100 magic caster!

A teleportation spell that's able to withstand [Dimensional Lock]? Ainz was surprised, this should not be possible. [Dimensional Lock], stops all forms of teleportation spells, even in the New World this still holds true.

If this is not Tier Magic or Wild Magic, could it be another system? But Ainz is not sure about this. While Wild Magic and Tier Magic are different systems, Tier Magic could still affect Wild Magic and vice versa.

Unless, this magic comes from a stronger world? Looking at the location of the teleportation spell, Ainz estimated he could easily cancel it, making him deny his guess.

Even the New World, which is an actual world, is far weaker than Yggdrasil, which was a game. Not even 10% of Yggdrasil's power is expressed in the New World, one could see how strong of a world it is.

A new magic system, means a new avenue towards growth. There is no doubt, Ainz is stronger than before, but that is in combat experience, not a growth in mana or levels. Defeating himself from decades ago is not difficult, but defeating Shalltear with ease would still prove challenging.

He gained a lot from studying Wild Magic, so imagine what he would gain from this new magic system.

Still, thoughts of fighting made Ainz slightly excited. Compared to his current mundane life of ruling, he liked the past when he was fighting and exploring the New World more. However, with him sitting at the helm of everything, what challenges could he find?

Even if there is one, before he could challenge it, the NPCs would eliminate it.

There is no doubt many would kill to have such protection, but Ainz is not one of them. If not for him considering the NPCs' well-being, the current situation of the world would be much different. How different, even he didn't know.

One thing he knew for certain, is the fact he would be adventuring around the world right now. Every member of Ainz Ooal Gown had an innate fondness towards adventure. Without battles and adventures, not only would their enjoyment disappear, their skills will gradually become obsolete. That is something he cannot allow to happen!

Ainz has not forgotten that every century new players will appear in the New World. If he were to get lazy and a guild stronger than his arrives, everything will belly up and Nazarick will lose its advantage. That's one thing he can't allow to happen.

Glancing out at the sky that has darkened noticeably, Ainz became lost in thought. Quite a lot of time has passed and the spell has not dissipated. A trap? One set so plainly and so obvious, yet so effective. Could it be someone who knows me?

A teleportation spell usually disappears after use, but a [Gate] type spell can remain as long as mana is supplied. To be able to bypass [Dimensional Lock] and provide this amount of mana, Ainz concluded this was someone above level 100.

The mana needed to maintain a [Gate] for such a long time, even Ainz did not think he had it.

Based on everything he gathered so far, Ainz had speculation, which he feels is 70% likely. However, even considering that, he is not scared but slightly excited.

A new adventure? With my Guardians keeping everything here in check, there is nothing for me to worry about. If that's the case…

[Message]

"Lord Mo..Lord Ainz, how can I be of assistance?"

"Albedo, have Aureola Omega open a Gate to my location and come alone."

"As you wish, my love."

Sigh, even after such a long time, she still has not given up. But it's to be expected, I changed her settings, her soul to be in love with me. What a terrible man I am. Would Tabula-san forgive me?

Ainz cannot with good conscience say he doesn't love Albedo, but it would be a lie to say he sees her in the same way she did. Guilt, love and shame are the three emotions he cannot escape from, when it comes to her.

Guilt at not being able to reciprocate her feelings, deep love for her that cannot be shown, and shame at betraying Tabula-san's trust. All these made it hard for him to truly accept Albedo, but the main reason is his current form…

What can this skeleton form do? How can he act on his love for her…..?

Clearing his head, Ainz turned to the [Gate] that suddenly appeared beside him. So my speculation was correct, the [Dimensional Lock] in the palace still works but has a limit.

Compared to a spell that is cast, a set [Dimensional Lock] is far weaker in effect, which might be how this unknown teleportation spell entered the palace in the first place.

Stepping out the [Gate] was Albedo, the Guardian Overseer of the Floor and territorial guardians of Nazarick and the Prime Minister of the New World.

Albedo had her lustrous jet-black hair neatly combed, with her two thick horns adding an air of devilish charm to an otherwise goddess of beauty. She is wearing her usual pure white dress with silky gloves covering her slender hands. Her pair of black wings sat on her waist.

Looking around, Albedo's golden irises quickly found Ainz and arrived before him, bowing. "I apologize for the wait, Lord Ainz, I came as quickly as I could."

"No need for that, Albedo, you arrived at the right time." Ainz shook his head, before continuing. "I will not keep you in suspenses. The reason I summoned you is because I believe this is an entrance to another world."

Surprise flash on Albedo's face, as she stares at the spot Ainz is pointing at, not seeing anything out of normal. However, considering the person before her, she had no reason to doubt his words.

"Lord Ainz, do you want to send subordinates to this world?" Although it is a bit of a stretch to fully mobilize at this moment, when the New World is not completely unified and accepting of Nazarick rule, doing some information gathering is still possible.

"There is no need for that." How could Ainz let that happen? If he let the NPCs act, they would no doubt attempt to conquer the world. Given the resources at Nazarick's disposal, it would be possible to do a full scale, world invasion. But doing so, would make him the ruler of two worlds, meaning twofold the amount of paperwork! He can't let that happen!

Albedo could not understand Ainz's thoughts. If he didn't intend to conquer this world, why summon me? It is true she is happy to be with her love but having a new world pop onto the radar, made her cautious.

Her father and the rest of the Supreme Beings left once they got bored. Lord Ainz had not shown signs of boredom but who knows what he is truly feeling and thinking? Even her, who knows Lord Ainz the best after Pandora's Actor, struggled with such a feat.

"We will go to the world beyond this entrance." Looking at Albedo, Ainz continued. "To tell you the truth, Albedo, I have become bored. Peace is beautiful and I strive for it, but without conflict, I will grow weak. However, this new world might provide means to maintain my strength and even push it further."

A current of shock and fear flash on Albedo's face, her deepest fears are coming true, her love is thinking of leaving! A feeling of rage is burning in her heart but what can she do? Lord Ainz is bored, which means he will leave.

A Supreme Being leaves when they get bored, this is common knowledge.

When did this happen?! Everything was going fine, so when!! No, he got bored because everything is too easy. If..the world became chaotic, will he stay?! No, that would be pointless, Lord Momonga would notice immediately!

"Lord Ainz, are you taking me along with you and leaving everyone behind?"

Ainz stood without words, because he was in disbelief. He had forgotten this was a worrisome topic for the NPCs. Their parents had abandoned them and he was about to leave for another world. Isn't it obvious they would think in this direction?

Of course he would not abandon them. The memories and feelings he has for them are not fake. Even if he had to choose between his friends and his children, he would not hesitate to choose them.

These are his children, his family, so how can he abandon them?

"Albedo, do you really think I will abandon them?" Ainz gripped the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown with a sense of guilt. How could she think this? Then again, it was his fault for not choosing his words carefully. "You think too little of me, if that was my decision, why would I take you and no one else? Going to that world does not mean we will not come back." Ainz was not lying, he does have some guarantee in coming back to the New World. The similarities between the entrance and the [Gate] spell of Yggdrasil is striking, which imply [Gate] would work in the other world. If that is the case, regardless of distance, they can return anytime.

Plus, within the past decade, he and Demiurge have created a spell that only he can use. If he used it, he had no doubt he could return, if even [Gate] failed in the end.

"Forgive me for speaking out of line, Lord Ainz." Albedo knelt down with shame on her face. How could she believe that Lord Ainz and the rest of the Supreme Beings are the same? It should have been clear from the beginning, only one stayed after all.

"Get up. I do not blame you. From your perspective, I guess my actions do appear like abandonment. I am rather moved that you considered the other NPCs even in this situation." Ainz said, reaching to lift her up.

Accepting the outstretched hand of her master, Albedo stood up with a smile on her face. "I am sure they would have said the same in my situation."

Ainz did not reply, because he thought they wouldn't. In order to make him happy, they would accept being abandoned and smile as he left, hiding their pain from him. However, Albedo's love for him is too deep, which makes her speak her mind when it comes to him.

In a strange way, Albedo might be the only one he could talk to without air and the one that understands him the best.

Since Lord Momonga said he can return, then there's nothing to worry about. Lord Momonga has never broken his word. If that is the case, there really is no reason for me to refuse going with him. Plus, being alone with Lord Momonga might increase our feelings for one another, while making the flat chested vampire jealous. There is no con, only pro.

Thinking of this, Albedo spoke. "Lord Ainz, as your subordinate, I will never disobey your will. However, my Lord, I have one condition in going with you."

Please Albedo, don't ask for anything weird.

"As long as it's within my power, I will accept your condition."

Albedo pulls out a black ring with a red ruby as its centerpiece, from her inventory. "Lord Ainz, this is something I requested Demiurge and the Dwarves to create. I would like you to wear it."

Accepting the item, Ainz instinctively used [All Appraisal Magic Item], and was genuinely shocked.

"Ring of Absolute Polymorph, a ring able to transform the user into any race. One cannot distinguish true from false." The description was long, but he got the gist of it.

Going by the description, if I was to wear this, my Emotional Suppression will disappear. This is good, but the consequences are clear, my emotions will be easily seen through. If not for his Emotional Suppression, the perception of the NPCs would change drastically.

To Ainz, it was a double-edged sword. It made him level headed but at the same time, he cannot express his emotions as he would like.

Weighing the pros and cons, Ainz decided to wear the ring, especially since it only changed his race, only temporarily. Just based on its effects alone, Ainz rated the item as a divine tier item.

Maybe a World Class Item? Impossible to distinguish illusions from reality.

Removing the Ring of Shooting Stars and replacing it with the Ring of Absolute Polymorph, Ainz felt a strange force acting on his body, changing it. Black light covered his body, and the sound of bones rearranging echoed in the room.

A second later, the light disappeared and in the place of Ainz, a young man in his early twenties with long black hair, wearing the same jet black gown appeared.

Curious about his appearance, Ainz summoned a mirror, only to freeze, looking at the person looking back. I have not seen this body in a long time. Apart from my hair being a bit longer and my eyes being red-like fire, this is undoubtable Suzuki Satoru, this is me.

Placing a hand on his chest, a strange feeling surged through him. This body has a heartbeat, blood pumping through my veins, everything feels real. But how real? Summoning a dagger, Ainz rubbed it against his palm, frowning.

The quality of the dagger was too low to damage him. But, feeling the sensation of the dagger in his palm, Ainz even after knowing this is the effect of the ring, felt the dagger touch flesh instead of bone.

Turning to Albedo, Ainz is not surprised to see the look on her face. In those eyes, he saw lust and deep longing, which caused him to shiver in nervousness.

Albedo has been holding herself back for decades. Despite him using various means to refuse and keep her at a distance, her love for him continued. Even though he pretended not to see it, how could he not? Especially when she has not hidden it.

Pondering for a moment, Ainz, without realizing it, spoke in a gentle tone. "Come here, Albedo."

"Lord Ainz?" Despite being confused, Albedo walked over, only to be pulled into Ainz arms. Her body stiffen and her face became flushed.

"Once we return from this adventure, I shall grant you your wish, would that satisfy you?" Ainz whispered into her ears, causing a wave of confusion and disbelief to overcome Albedo.

What happened?! Lord Momonga, will grant me my wish?! Lord Momonga loves me?! Tears welled up in her eyes and she burst into tears. How long has she been dreaming of this, how long has she felt like she will never be enough?

"..sniff. Lord Ainz, do… you mean…! sniff!"

Ainz looked at the goddess in his arms and sighed. Ultimately, he has to take responsibility for what he did. He made her this way and he cannot fix it.

Holding her in his arms, a familiar floral scent entered his nose, making him wonder where it came from.

"You will ruin this adorable face of yours if you continue to cry, Albedo." Said Ainz, as he caressed her face, wiping her tears.

"L.ord Ainz, you think I am adorable?"

With a gentle smile, and pulling her adorable cheeks. "If you are not, then nothing in this world is."

"Haha!" Albedo chuckled a little, finding this side of Lord Ainz very good. The old Lord Ainz would be cold and domineering, this one is gentle and expressive.

She cannot say she likes one over the other, as they each have a different charm, which she likes equally.

Letting Albedo out of his arms, Ainz pointed the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown at the entrance to the other world. "Let me do a test first. [Summon Undead 1st]!" Rows of black mist appeared from the floor and Zombie dogs, cats and bats appeared, before entering into the entrance, and vanishing.

[Undead Slave Sight]

Ainz's vision split between the Zombie animals, showing the scene of a forest. There did not seem to be anyone around the entrance. However, as cautious as he is, he did not rule out the possibility, they were laying in wait.

So far, the person who created the entrance seems to know him. Knowing that he would enter the entrance, despite it being a trap. What if it was truly a trap on the other side? What if his theory of being able to return is wrong?

Ainz has never been an arrogant person and always has been prepared for all eventualities. This was also the reason he was called the wild card of the guild, he could come in handy in almost any situation.

To put his mind at ease, he decided it would be best to scout the area first. A new world means tons of enemies and no allies. Each action must be taken with caution.

A sense of excitement ran through him, feeling the thrill of the adventure. He felt like this during the early days of being in the New World as well, but after a couple years, dullness and coldness was what he mostly felt.

Ainz was aware that his undead form had changed him irreversibly. He is not Satoru Suzuki anymore, he is the Overlord. Even the Ring of Absolute Polymorph only brings back his feelings and emotions while activated. Once the ring is removed, the being the New World called the Supreme One will return.

The Zombie animals disperse in all directions, giving Ainz a wide range of information. The minutes ticked by quickly, before a smile appeared on his face.

"Albedo, make sure you keep up your guard. There is no danger around, but be cautious."

"Yes, Lord Ainz." Albedo said, equipping her World Class Item, Ginnungagap, turning it into a halberd.

The two walked into the entrance and appeared in a beautiful green forest.

The mana density is at least twice that of the New World. How strong would this world's inhabitants be? A world having high mana density doesn't necessarily equate to the inhabitants being strong, the New World is proof of that.

Ainz turned back, only to notice the entrance had disappeared at some time. It was indeed a trap, however, one I walked into willing. I wonder if anyone is watching us right now?

[Gate]

A swirling hole in reality appeared in front of them. [Gate] work? Good, I don't have to use the Orb of Momonga, in conjunction with that spell.

Canceling the [Gate], Ainz turns to his partner. "Albedo, If not absolutely necessary, do not use your full strength."

"Yes, Lord Ainz." Albedo nods, feeling relaxed as she observes her surroundings. Now that I know that [Gate] works,I am a bit regretful. Lord Momonga should have informed the Guardians of this world, so they can be on standby in the event we need reinforcements. Plus, in our current environment, having Aura would be beneficial. But Lord Momonga is right, we cannot reveal too much. There is no guarantee someone is not watching us right now.

Looking back on Ainz's action, Albedo felt awe. Even though she has seen him act many times before, this was somehow different to her. From his expression, she could tell he was truly happy and that smile tugging at his lips, brim with confidence. That is something she found deeply moving.

"From here on out, call me Momon. No need for formalities."

"As you wish, Momon."

Eh?

Ainz turned in a direction with interest, a village that looked oddly similar to Carne, appeared in his vision through [Undead Slave Sight]. This is the only sign of civilization he had found so far.

Commanding one of his Zombie bats, it flew into the village and began to secretly move around. Like a stealthy ninja, no sound was made, even the flapping of its tattered wings were silent.

Through the bat's vision, Ainz did not find anything abnormal. Just a simple village with normal people. No one was using magic, so he couldn't glean information from just observing.

The bat perched on a ceiling, observing two men speaking with one another about this year's harvest.

I can understand the language. I wonder if this is a feature of this world or Yggdrasil at play? No, information about this world is my main priority.

"Albedo, we will make our way to a village in that direction. It seems the inhabitants are normal people, so bear that in mind. It's best to conceal your horns and wings." As Ainz spoke, memories of when he and Albedo went to Carne Village appeared in his mind.

Albedo's hatred for humans was clear to Ainz, especially when she bluntly stated it. Even now, she still hates humans but not as deeply as before. Few humans were spoken of highly by her. Maybe she herself has not realized it, but she has changed noticeably.

To see his children grow and become better, Ainz felt gratified. No parent wants their children to grow up with baseless views, he was no different.

"Momon, should we not set up a base? As we are, we are rootless trees. Maybe we should consolidate some power to use in cases of emergencies."

"You make a good point, but making a base rashly is not wise. Whose territory is this? How strong are the people in this world? These are what we should focus on. Only by answering these questions can we attempt to make plans."

Of course, Ainz wanted to create a base as well but he was hesitant. Although he had not felt any prying eyes, he didn't want to reveal too much. Only by controlling what the enemy knows about you, can you prevail.

In fact, he only revealed [Summon Undead 1st] and [Gate] so far, mainly because even if one knows this, it would not affect him.

Creating a base would be advantageous, but the caster of the teleportation would know the location of their base and could enter and leave whenever they want, that alone makes a base, an absolute last resort.

In order to hide my abilities, maybe I should have dressed up as Momon? Sadly, I got excited about my new body and didn't plan accordingly. It is easy for me to overlook things, I must remain cautious.

It's only been a short moment, but Ainz felt the Ring of Absolute Polymorph could be dangerous. He was wondering if he should take it off. But, he promised this condition to Albedo.

Sigh. Let's enjoy it a little longer.

The two drew closer to the village and before long, the village was within sight. It looks exactly like what one would see in a fantasy world. In the center of the village, a large clearing with a building bigger than the houses sat.

As the two appeared between the edge of the forest and the village, Ainz felt a strange feeling. It is something dark and cold, but not unholy energy, it is something impure.

Following the source of the feeling, he arrived next to a tree. Attached to the tree is a crystal that was clear white.

Seeing the crystal, Ainz understood something.

This is a ward, one intentionally placed here. Placing his back on the tree and looking straight ahead, down the tree line, he saw other crystals attached to trees, the only exception was that they were green.

Something broke this ward, causing it to turn white. Could it be something from the forest? It couldn't be Ainz or Albedo, since they just arrived at the treeline, plus, wards of this level are impossible to work on them.

It seems something escaped the forest ahead of us. I am sensing some residue mana, so it shouldn't be long ago. None of his Zombies detected anything, so Ainz was not sure what to make of the situation.

Looking at the ward, he cast [All Appraisals Magic Item] on, curious about what he will learn.

"Witchbeast? A species unique to this world? Interesting, something I don't know. But, what does this Witch of Gluttony mean?"

He wondered if it was just a title. Ulbert-san was called the "Demon of Great Disaster", which was a title that truly represents him and his trump card. If this Witch of Gluttony was anything like her title suggests, he might have to be careful.

The two walked out the forest and made their way into the village. Though they look casual on the surface, they were on high alert. Ainz already has a few spells on standby to buy time.

One thing he hates about adventuring is the limited amount of information. Only by having enough information can he accurately respond to the situation. This weakness was one of the reasons he chose Albedo to come along with him.

As the person with the highest defensive stats amongst the Guardians, she should be enough to buy time for him to counterattack or retreat.

On both sides of the road, Ainz saw villagers working hard in the fields. Old and young were working together, which is similar to Carne.

Lost in thought, Ainz didn't notice that a group of people had gathered ahead on the road.

"Momon, please stay behind me." Albedo gripped the handle on her halberd, while maintaining a gentle smile on her face.

"Halt! Who are you?!" A short old woman with purple hair and a red dress shouted. Behind her, everyone looks at the duo with tense expressions.

Ainz and Albedo stopped. Ainz looked at the tense expression on their faces and the random "weapons" in their hands, with some understanding.

"We mean no harm. My wife and I are adventurers. We got lost and were wondering if you could lend us a map to get our bearings."

Albedo's body shivered, almost moaning in happiness. She never expected Ainz would call her his wife. If Shalltear heard this, she could imagine the vampire's expression, which caused her smile to grow even gentler.

Oblivious to Albedo's thoughts, Ainz continued to speak. "We are willing to trade for some food if possible."

The villagers looked at one another, not quite expecting this. They only gather like this because the route the two took was not the official road to the village. No one ever came from this direction, which made them very suspicious of the duo.

Seeing it was only a young man and a young lady, they already lowered their guards. Just looking at them, one could tell they are nice people. Plus, the emotions on the girl's face can't be fake, that is someone in love.

The old woman yelled at the villagers. "What are you fools doing? Guide them to the village and prepare some food for them."

"Mil..eh." One of the villagers wanted to say something, but the old woman looked at him sternly, causing him and the others to turn tails back to the village.

Ainz's lips twitched, fighting the urge to laugh. What a cunning old woman, but cunningness is indeed needed to live in any world.

Albedo, Ainz and the old woman began walking into the village.

The old woman looked at their clothing, with a strange look in her eyes. She did not believe they are simple adventurers as they claim.

Even the half-elf of the Roswaal Manor did not wear such clothes, neither did, lord himself. But the clothes these two wear seem extremely expensive. Plus, looking at Ainz fingers, she was surprised at how white and clean they are. They are not the hands of someone who welled weapons, perhaps a noble?

Then again, the woman also had white and clean fingers, but was able to wield such a heavy looking weapon with ease.

Based on all of this, she did not think she made the wrong decision. If these two are noble or even as dangerous as she thinks, bringing them back to the village and keeping them happy, while informing the Roswaal Manor will keep the village safe.

"Oh, it seems I didn't ask you for your name. I am Milde Arlam, the village head of Arlam Village."

"My name is Momon and this is my wife, Albedo. We hail from a small nation to the southwest, Carne. I am not sure if you heard of it?"

Milde looked confused and shook her head. "This is the first I'm hearing of Carne. But then again, I am just an old woman who has never been outside Lugunica, it is not surprising I don't know."

This place is called Arlam Village, so Luguncia should be the name of the nation. Especially, in context to Carne being a nation. Still, what a strange name for a nation.

"I would be surprised if you heard of it, the distance between Carne and Luguncia is pretty vast. The two of us took a couple years traveling this far."

"This is the place." Milde guided the two to the largest building in Arlam and entered. "Please have a seat."

Glancing around, Ainz noted it was truly a normal village. Nothing was strange in his view, even when he cast [Detect Magic].

Sitting down at the table, Milde came out with three cups and poured some tea.

Albedo almost frowned at the quality of the tea. Did this human want Lord Momonga to drink this? Not even the dogs of the Sorcerer Kingdom would drink this filth.

As if noticing Albedo's thoughts, Ainz picked up the tea and took a sip, feeling a surge of sweetness entering his mouth.

The tea is not the best I have tasted but it's surely the only one Ainz has tasted. It tastes similar to a mint tea, with a refreshing aftertaste. The urge to burst into tears well up in his heart. It's been too long since he ate or drank something.

Ainz had long been jealous of others when they ate fancy food. He has dragon steak and the like in Nazarick but he can't eat any of them. Sometimes he regretted making his avatar a skeleton Overlord but now, the feeling of jealousy disappeared.

"Sigh. Good tea. Can I perhaps purchase some?"

"Do you like it as well? This is something the village grows freely, not something we sell. Unlike you, the others don't like it. I will give you some for free." Milde chuckled, with a pleased expression on her face.

Hearing Ainz words, Albedo, against her better judgment, decides to try the tea, almost vomiting. What is this filth? There is no way this is good, Lord Momonga is being polite, as expected of my love.

Milde noticed Albedo put her cup down, but did not say anything.

"Momon, let's get down to business. Although I have a map, it's only a map with limited information of the surrounding areas. If you want a more detailed map, I suggest talking to the lord of this domain, Lord Roswaal."

Cupping his chin, Ainz fell into deep thought. He has gotten quite a bit of information so far, but this village is indeed limited in what it can tell him.

Getting in contact with Lord Roswaal will give him more information, but it will be dangerous if he's proven stronger than him.

Ainz, through his [Undead Slave Sight], could see the manor little further from Arlam village. He can also see one of the villagers from earlier, running to it.

Milde had the others inform Roswaal of his and Albedo's existence. Being here right now was Milde's way of buying time.

He had been aware of this from the start, but he didn't mind. Milde's actions are commendable, especially in her role as the head of the village, she had to put the wellbeing of her people above her own.

"Oh sorry, I was lost in thought. We will meet Lord Roswaal, to get a better map. On that note, I wish to know how much this is worth here." Ainz said, pretending to reach in his robe, pulling out a bag of gold coins from his inventory.

Milde opened the bag and pulled out a gold coin, feeling it was heavier than the ones she had seen before. The detailed engraving caught her eye.

"I can't tell the purity of these but from my experience, I would say one of these would be worth five of Luguncia gold coins, as for how many sacred gold coins, I can't tell for sure." Looking at the bag that had around 50 gold coins, she felt that her guess was likely to be true, they are nobles. This was a lot of money for common people to have. Even in her younger days, she only had a few to her name.

Ainz's eyes shone slightly. Yggdrasil gold coins out value this world's equivalent. But, above gold in this world, is the sacred gold coin.

Eh?

Through one of his Zombie's eyes, Ainz noticed a young boy wearing strange but familiar looking clothes running to the mountains, overlooking the Roswaal Manor.

Why is he tying a rope around his waist? Suicide? No, why put it around his waist and not his neck?

Curious, Ainz decided to end the conversation with Milde. There is nothing more he can learn from her. He would need to meet Lord Roswaal for that. However, Ainz decided to collect some food as he suggested earlier. He still took a look at the map, gaining an understanding of the area around Arlam Village.

"Thank you for your help, Miss Arlam. We need to head to the manor before it gets darker." The skies were darkened as if dusk. Even if darkness does not affect them, arriving at the mansion in the middle of the night might create unnecessary suspicion.

Milde, while confused why the conversation took a turn, she smiled and nodded. "I only wish there was something I could do to help, but I'm sure Lord Roswaal will answer any questions you may have."

"You helped, greatly. Thank you." Ainz smiled and got up to leave the room, with Albedo following in suit.

"Young lady, you have to express yourself better. If you don't like something, say it. Don't be afraid to tell him."

Albedo looks at Milde with confusion, before noticing her cup on the table, understanding. "I will keep that in mind. Goodbye."

Milde stood outside, watching the two walk towards the manor. She felt a bit guilty for feeling suspicious about them, especially after talking with Momon for a bit. This was the most charismatic person she had ever seen. From start to finish, the entire conversation was going at his pace, when he stopped speaking, Milde felt she shouldnt speak.

"I really hope they are good people. The Roswaal Manor is not an easy place, especially with a half-elf living there."

On Ainz and Albedo's side, Ainz continued to observe the young man, feeling a bit strange. He has not done anything, after wrapping the robe around his waist and a tree.

"Momon, why did you suddenly decide to leave?"

Ainz stopped, realizing he left Albedo in the dark. "My zombies saw someone in the forest. I was curious about the reason they entered, especially since it did not look like they were hunting or gathering herbs."

Albedo nodded, but could not help but ask. "Would it not be wise to continue gathering information here? Even if that human did not have a detailed map, we can dig more out of her, like who the ruler of Luguncia is, the religion and the type of magic that exists."

"I consider that as well, but let me ask you, since we have a better source of information, Lord Roswaal, why should we continue asking Milde? It's true she might have information but it is also true, it's not guaranteed to be true." In the New World, the same thing happened when he asked the old village chief of Carne questions, he got many speculations instead of facts. Ainz felt the same was happening with Milde.

Information in any world is important, expecting someone from a village to have all of it, is foolish.

"But, what if this Roswaal wants to test us, how will we answer his questions?"

Ainz turned around and smiled. "The boy I saw is the answer. My Zombies saw him coming from the manor, which means he is either a servant or of the main family living there. Either way, if we can capture him, we will gain a lot of information. Still, the end goal is Roswaal. As the lord of this place, he is privy to information many wouldn't know."

"As expected of you, my Lord, you are truly the one meant to rule us."

"Albedo, come here..." Albedo without question, entered Ainz's arms before he could finish his words. "Cough, Cough, don't let go." Ainz said, as he teleported to the young man's location, while deploying [Perfect Unknownable].

"Also, since we are husband and wife, there is no need to call me lord." Ainz said, still hugging Albedo in his arms, to make sure they were hidden.

Unlike other spells, [Perfect Unknowable] only works on the user but if he is holding someone, it applies to them.

The two were only a couple meters away from the young man. However, to the young man, nothing seemed off to him, after all, he cannot see through [Perfect Unknowable].

Sniffing her beloved smell, Albedo had drool at the corner of her lips. Feeling Ainz's body temperature, her Succubus nature was about to wake up..

Mhm?

Looking deep into the forest, Albedo's golden iris shone as she sniffed the air, smelling something familiar, yet foreign.

"Momon, I think a demon is approaching this location."

"A demon? This world have them too? Can you tell what kind?"

Shaking her head, Albedo explains. "Most demons can sense one another, but just from sensing alone, it's hard to know which kind of demon they are. However, since I can sense them and they can't sense me, I would say they are weaker than me."

Ainz never heard of this before, then again, he had not found any wild demons in the New World. None of the demons in Nazarick describe this nor did he think to ask.

The two, no, the three did not have to wait long, before a Morning Star flail pierce through the forest, heading straight towards the young man.

Boom!

The spiked ball embedded itself into the rock beside the young man! Another inch and he would have been skewered.

As if expecting the attack, the young man jumped down from the edge of the mountain and cut the rope, before running away.

The demon is clearly holding back, purposely making its attack miss his body. Trying to induce fear in him? Albedo thought with some amusement.

Ainz watched with interest. Such ingenuity, if he was a normal person, Ainz did not think he would have thought of such methods. But, he was curious why it seemed the young man knew of this attack beforehand.

"Let's see what this demon has planned."

Flying into the air, the duo watched the young man run for his life, while the demon kept a leisurely pace under the shadows of the trees. Not too close and not too far.

Ainz looked at the so-called demon, who looked like a blue-haired girl in a maid uniform. On the surface, there were not any demonic features that could be used to discern her race.

Even this world has strange tastes, dressing a demon up as a maid. The images of the maids of Nazarick flash through his mind.

Running for a while, the young man looked around and noticed he had gotten cornered. He couldn't continue running, as the mountain blocked his path. The only escape route was behind him, where the demon was.

Quickly taking off his jacket, and holding it in front of himself, he shouted. "I'm not scared of you bastard, show yourself!"

The demon hiding in the covers of the trees and darkness, walked out.

Shock and disbelief appeared on the young man's face, as if he could not understand what he was seeing.

"Why..?! Rem-chan, why are you doing this?"

If they know each other, why are they fighting? While the master of death was curious, something else caught his attention. Why is there a curse inside that boy? Not a weak one either. Things are starting to become interesting.

"Albedo, capture the demon, but don't reveal too much power."

While reluctant, Albedo let go of Ainz and fell from the skies, causing the ground to tremble from the impact!

BOOM!

The young man and the demon, Rem, look at the strange person before them with confusion.

Where did this woman come from? Did she shake the ground from falling? Looking up at the skies where there is no platform, a scary thought pops into their minds. How far did she fall from?!

Albedo ignores their gaze and looks directly at Rem. "You're a demon, correct?"

Rem frowned, a witch cultist? She has not forgotten that the witch cultist was the ones responsible for killing off her clan. If not for Lord Roswaal, she and her sister would also be dead.

With annoyance in her voice, Albedo continued. "Even if you remain silent, I can tell. Will you follow me?"

The young man got up and stood in between Rem and Albedo. "Just because you are hot, doesn't mean Rem-chan is going anywhere with you. What are you trying to have her do? Don't tell me, you are a pervert?! That must be it!"

The young man caused Albedo's beautiful brows to twitch. What kind of logic is this, immediately label her a pervert?

"The nerve of you. I wasn't going to do anything to you, you can only blame yourself."

Sensing a suppressed killing intent, Rem stepped forward, flail of the Morning Star tightening in her grip.

"I won't go anywhere with you, I have people waiting for me,."

Albedo's golden eyes narrowed dangerously. "Commendable, but a little pathetic if you think you stand a chance against me." She tilted her head, voice cold and mocking. "Come, little demon. Let's see how long your devotion holds up."

Rem's forehead lit up and a horn with blue light appeared as she surged forward, her feet exploding off the ground. The Morning Star flail extended in a blur of motion, she aimed directly for Albedo's head.

CLANG!

Albedo tilted her head slightly, catching the spiked weapon with her bare hand. The chain groaned under pressure. Sparks danced as aura crackled between them.

"This little strength gives you confidence?" Albedo asked, her smile serene, but her tone ice-cold.

Rem jumped back and spun the flail again, this time wrapping the chain around Albedo's right arm and pulling tight.

"[Ogre Strength]!" Rem shouted.

Albedo was pulled forward slightly, but only slightly. Then her foot came down like thunder, shattering the earth beneath her!

BOOM!

Rem flinched.

At that moment, Albedo moved.

She didn't swing. She didn't scream. She simply stepped into Rem's space, fast. Too fast.

BOOM!

The flat end of Albedo's halberd struck Rem's stomach, sending her skidding back across the dirt and into a tree. Leaves exploded from the impact.

Rem coughed, falling to one knee, trying to breathe. Her horn flickered, dimming slightly.

Albedo stood perfectly still, her blade at rest, not even a hair out of place.

"If I used even a little more strength, you would be scattered across the trees."

She raised the halberd once more—

"That's enough, Albedo."

The command echoed through the sky like divine law.

A moment later, Ainz landed beside her, his presence immediately calming the storm. His crimson eyes surveyed the scene before narrowing on Subaru.

The boy had stepped in front of the grimacing Rem, shaking. Yet he did not move.

Brave, Ainz thought. Foolish, but brave.

"I asked for her to be captured, not killed," he said calmly.

Albedo bowed, lowering her weapon. "I know, Momon. She was more… more aggressive than expected."

Looking at Subaru's slightly trembling hands, Rem's eyes soften, wiping the traces of blood at the corner of her lips. "Subaru, this is not someone you can stand up against."

Subaru looked at Rem with pain and sadness. He was still unsure why Rem tried to kill him. He was sure if this weird woman didn't show up, he would be a corpse.

"Hello, there. I am Momon and this is my wife, Albedo. I hope you can forgive us for what just happened." Ainz said, lowering his head, causing Albedo to grit her teeth so hard, they almost shatter!

How dare these mongrels cause Lord Momonga to lower his proud head! I should have killed them!

Subaru waved his hand nervously. "Forget it, no one got hurt, too badly. It's just a misunderstanding." He could feel the presence of death watching him. If he is not careful, they might be killed!

Ainz nods slightly and turns to the maid. "I would like to ask, are you a demon?" Even after the skirmishes earlier, he was not sure what kind of demon she is. None of what he saw matches any of the demons he knew.

Rem looked at Albedo and now this strange man, Momon, and didn't think she could escape. Albedo is enough to subdue her, let alone someone who Albedo obey without question

"Yes. I am an Oni." Rem had no choice but to admit it.

Subaru looked at Rem with some surprise, but it was just that. He never thought Ram and Rem were demons, let alone Oni. But then again, the manor is a weird place. A half-elf, spirit, demons, human and whatever Rox is.

Oni? She does not look like an Oni and while she does have a horn, it does not seem natural, more like magic conduit. During the battle, Ainz noticed how mana surging towards the horn, heightening Rem's strength.

From the battle early, he put her on the same level as an Adamantite adventurer, only one with limited combat experience.

"Are demons scorned?" Ainz asked, wondering why she took so long to answer.

Rem thought for a moment and before shaking her head. "My sister and I are the last of the Oni race. Unless we manifest our horns, no one can tell we are not human, so no."

Ainz nods as he notices something. While he calls her a demon, Rem calls herself an Oni. Maybe Oni and demons are the same thing in this world? Also, if Rem and her sister are the last Oni, that makes them rare. His collectible instinct as a Player, was waking up.

Thinking for a second, Ainz said. "Albedo, reveals your true form."

Without a word, Albedo's horns and her wings appeared.

"My wife, Albedo, is a demon, but she is not an Oni."

Rem looked surprised. She never expected that Albedo was a demon. She could feel a connection with her that wasn't there prior.

Subaru looked Albedo up and down with a strange smile on his face. "She is a Succubus. Those horns and wings make it obvious. I knew she was a pervert, a lustful demon"

Now it is Albedo and Ainz time to be surprised. How does Subaru know? From conversation with Rem, even she doesn't know what the demons are, only thinking the Oni race is what Ainz meant when he said the term.

Yet, Subaru is able to clearly identify what Albedo is?

"Thank you, Albedo." Ainz said to Albedo, before turning to Subaru with bright eyes. "Have you met a Succubus before?"

A silver-haired girl appeared in Subaru's mind. "Not necessarily a Succubus, but not much different either."

"What do you mean by that?" Is it this world's equivalent of Succubus? But if they are different, there must be similarities for Subaru to identify Albedo so accurately.

Smiling and pointing to the sky, Subaru starts spitting as he talks. "There is this girl, she is so beautiful. She has a great personality, and is so caring for everyone. In terms of beauty, I would say she is Succubus."

A twitch, a noticeable twitch appeared on Ainz's forehead. What a let down, he thought he found a new race.

"Not the answer I was expecting. Mhm, Subaru, is it? Do you mind if I check something out for a moment?" Said Ainz as he reached his hand over…

Subaru covered his chest and butt, looking suspiciously at Ainz. "What are you trying to do? I will let you know, I'm a minor."

Albedo couldn't bear it any longer. "How dare you say that to my beloved, are you tired of living?!" A great pressure descended on the area, causing the ground to crack slightly.

"Enough! Albedo, apologize!" Rubbing his forehead, Ainz was feeling a headache. Having a body that expresses emotion is truly tiring.

Albedo pouted and looked away with disgust at Subaru. Why must she apologize to a human? Sigh, since Lord Momonga spoke, she had no choice but to obey.

Subaru could see rage in those beautiful eyes that wanted to turn him into ashes. Honestly, he had never seen such hateful eyes before. They are quite beautiful.

After clearing up the air, Ainz turned back to Subaru. "I noticed a curse on you and got curious. I am sorry for my rudeness."

Curse? Is this the reason I keep dying in the manor? Looking at Rem at the corner of his eye, Subaru felt some relief. Rem-chan is not the one who killed me.

Wait, could Momon be the Shaman that Beatrice was talking about? No, prior to today, I am sure he never touched my body, so it can't be him. But this is strange, Momon and Albedo were not in any of my Return by Death, is there a reason for this?

Grabbing Ainz's hands, Subaru asked. "Can you remove it?"

Ainz looked at his hands and felt a fuming volcano behind his back, quickly removing his hand. "A curse of this level is simple for me. However, I would need some time to observe it. After getting lounging at the Roswaal Manor, I don't see why I can't research ways to break it."

"Perfect! Rem-chan and I are servants in the manor, we can guide you there." Subaru immediately offered. If Ainz could indeed break the curse, he does have to worry about dying in the manor and his safe point can upgrade.

Plus, if the duo was to leave, he was not sure Rem wouldn't decide to kill him. Subaru didn't want to die again.

His body couldn't help but shiver thinking of his various Return by Death. The constant repeating over and over, is starting to make him feel he was destined for death.

Rem was not expecting things to develop this way, but there was nothing she could do. Killing Subaru lost its purpose, especially since Ainz and Albedo were here.

Even if they do nothing and watch as she kills him, if Miss Emilia and the others learn of this, they would be upset, which is not what she wanted.

Ainz decided to take Subaru up on his offer. Though he knows the direction, there is a different meaning between arriving unannounced and being invited in.

The four walked towards the manor, with Subaru and Ainz talking, Subaru doing most of the talking, and Ainz responding.

Behind the two, Rem could be seen occasionally looking at Albedo with shy and curious expressions. Ever since Albedo revealed that she is a demon, the strange situation developed.

Albedo noticed the looks, but did not indulge her. Mainly because, every time she looks over, the girl looks away, as if scared.

Before the skies become pitch black, they return back to the manor.

Looking at Ainz, who is obviously the top dog of the group, Subaru spoke. "Although I invited the two of you here, this is not my house. Rox should be away right now, so Emilia-tan will have to agree to you staying."

"Momon! No matter what you do, do not be mean to my sweet Emilia-tan! She has been through a lot, so she doesn't need someone looking down on her."

Ainz raised a brow, finding such a remark odd. Why would he look down on Emilia? What does he gain from that?

From his talks with Subaru so far, Ainz noticed the lad is very resilient. Even after Rem was itching to kill him, he didn't hold a grudge against her. The looks he gives her are similar to the looks he used to give Albedo. Maybe they did not realize it, but there is something more between these two.

Another thing he noticed was that his tone and mannerism seems foreign to the setting of this world. For example, the way Milde and the villagers spoke had a tone set in a fantasy world. Even Rem had a respectful tone, when she spoke, but Subaru was free of this. He seems to be an outsider.

While there is no proof for his assumption, Ainz sincerely believes it to be true. What cemented it even more, is his current clothes. Though distinct from his era on Earth, he could tell it was something commonly worn during the 2000s in Japan!

That means, Subaru is someone from his home world, Earth!

Honestly, finding someone from Earth after such a long time, did not make Ainz as excited as he thought. Even after realizing they are fellow countrymen, his face did not change whatsoever. This was not the Emotional Suppression at work, it was simply his true feelings.

Even if in the 2000s there is no toxic waste in the air, Ainz would not go nor care. Earth has not been a pleasant experience for him. In fact, he was at the bottom of the totem pole, but in the New World, he is much more.

Plus, I have people who care for me in one world and none in another. There is no decision to be made, since I have chosen long ago.

Lost in thought, Ainz followed Subaru and Rem into the manor, immediately sensing something off, the moment he crossed the threshold. The density of mana increases by two more times. There is something obviously unique about this place.

Albedo didn't seem to sense the mana, so maybe it's something very hidden? Then again, she did not react when they arrived in this world. In the field of magic, Ainz is undoubtedly the strongest magic caster to probably exist in the New World but when it comes to innovation, Fluder Paradyne ranks first.

"Subaru, you are back? I thought you wanted to venture out." Walking down the main stairs in the manor, is a beautiful young woman, wearing a white and lavender dress that clung gently to her form before flaring into a short, layered skirt. Detached sleeves hung from her upper arms, wide at the wrist like flower petals, and a green crystal clasped at her chest shimmered faintly. Her long silver hair flowed down her back, partly braided and adorned with a white flower clip.

Observing the girl, Ainz immediately recognizes her as a half-elf. As the ruler of all races, there are few that he did not know of.

[Detect Magic] [Detect Life]

Such a large amount of mana, is this even possible? It's almost a third of my mana capacity. But, even though her mana is large, her level does not seem to match, which makes it even more absurd. Can you imagine the situation where a level 1 being has the mana that a level 30 person has? What does this mean? It means she can continue to level up and her mana will continue to grow. But..Training his eyes at the green crystal on her chest, Ainz became a bit confused. Why is there a life response coming from it? Is it a living thing?

"Emilia! Even in the middle of the night, you are as radiant as usual!" Subaru at some point appeared next to the half-elf, looking like a sleazy merchant selling their wares, his wares being an exaggeration.

"Uh.." Emilia had a wry smile on her face. Noticing Ainz and Albedo staring intently at her, especially Ainz's red eyes seem to pierce through her. Emilia felt nervous and wondered what he was looking at exactly.

Bowing, Rem spoke. "Miss Emilia, let me introduce these to you. This gentleman is Momon and the lady is his wife, Albedo."

"Lady Emilia, it is a pleasure to meet your acquaintances. My wife and I are wondering if Roswaal Manor could provide us with temporary accommodation?"

"Of course, Lady Emilia, we are not willing to stay for free. I have 50 gold coins, which should be enough for a short amount of time." Ainz said, pulling out a small brown bag full of coins. Everytime he moved, the clanking of the coins could be heard.

Eh? Looking at Subaru and Rem, Emila was confused. It's one thing that Subaru decided to leave the manor, but why did he come back? As for Rem? Emilia was even more confused, since she thought she was in the manor the entire time.

"Rem, please guide Mr. Momon and Mrs. Albedo, to a guest room and provide them with everything they need. Unfortunately, this is all I can do."

Along the way, Subaru told him many things about Emilia, making the first interaction feel like he had known her for a long time. She is as timid as he describes, but she is an even kinder person.

"Lady Emila, on the behalf of the two of us, I must thank you. You did not have to, yet still willing to help, thank you." Ainz said, as he bowed his head.

Albedo looked at her lord, not upset that he bowed. The one bowing is not Ainz Ooal Gown, the Supreme One, but Momon.

Emila frantically waves her hands. "Ple.ase, please get up Mr. Momon! Helping others is only right, especially when we have the means."

Hearing these words, Ainz froze and looked at Emilia with a hint of reminisce in his eyes.

Touch-Me-san, if you met Emilia, what would your reaction be?

Emila looked at Ainz, wondering why he did not seem to care about her ears and the striking likeness to the Witch of Envy. Apart from those in the manor, no one had treated her like this.

As Emila thought, a small cat-like animal popped out of her hair, speaking to her telepathically. "Lia, I do not sense any malice from him, he is not lying."

"Puck, why did you come out?" Emila looks at the Puck. Puck usually comes out at 9-5, and looking at the pitch black skies outside, it's clear it's outside that timeframe.

"I did not want to come out either, but these two are not normal people. To guarantee your safety, I decided to come out, but even now, I am still not sure I can defeat them."

Emila was shocked. She knew that Puck is one of the Four Great Spirits, known as the Beast of the End, which is one of the strongest in the world, but Puck cannot guarantee victory? What does that mean?

Mr. Momon and Mrs. Albedo are not what they appear?

Obeying her orders, Rem began guiding Ainz and Albedo towards their quarters. Any and all questions that they had, Rem answered with professionalism, making Albedo raise an eyebrow at how similar to the Pleiades this maid is.

Back on Subaru's side, Emilia and Puck communicate for a while longer, before Puck decides to go to sleep. With his current reserves of mana, there is not much he can do. Thankfully, with Beako watching over Lia, there should not be any problem.

"Emilia-tan, how are you? Do you miss me?" Subaru said while wiggling. "The world out there is dangerous without my E.M.A by my side. By the way, E.M.A means "Emilia Massive Angel!" Finishing his statement, with a wink.

Emilia nods. "I did. I didn't think you would return, especially seeing how determined you were."

Subaru looked at Emilia with some guilt and happiness. Even after leaving her, she still thought of him. To be honest, this entire situation is taking him by surprise. He never intended to return alive, as he wanted to see who had been killing him, repeatedly in the manor.

Ainz and Albedo have never appeared in his Return by Death. Today is the fourth day, which he always died on and it's about to be the fifth day. He has a feeling that Ainz and Albedo are abnormal, something outside his death loop.

Putting his hands in a praying manner, Subaru apologized. "Emilia-tan, I am sorry. I wished I could explain, unfortunately I can't."

Emilia looked at Subaru's sincere eyes and nodded. "I believe you Subaru. Anyway, for now, please get some sleep. Tomorrow we can continue this conversation."

"Thank you, Emilia-tan." Subaru said, as he watched Emilia return to her room. Thinking back to his day, he couldn't help but feel sad. Why did Rem-chan want to kill him? How am I suspicious in her eyes? He doesn't understand, he treated everyone in the manor with genuine feelings, but Rem-chan wanted to silence him?

Sigh.

Walking back to his room, he stopped dead in his tracks, staring at Ainz who was standing in his room, looking through the window at the pitch black world.

Hearing something, Ainz turned around. "I do not mean to scare you, I came to fulfill an over deal."

Thinking back to the deal, Subaru relaxed. "You scared the crap out of me, Mo. I thought someone came to assassinate me, because they are jealous of how close I am to Emilia-tan."

"Mo?" Ainz wondered what this means, was he talking about him?

"Mo, is the nickname I gave you, I thought it would make us closer!"

Mo? No one has dared to give me a nickname, yet he gave me one? What an interesting person, if I ever decide to conquer this world, he will not be harmed.

"I will accept it, Subaru, I do feel closer to you. However, perhaps don't use it when Albedo is around." Ainz said, glancing outside the window, looking at a beautiful woman in white, flying in the air with a halberd in hand. Calm down, Albedo. I can feel your rage from here!

Subaru looked confused, not understanding what Ainz meant. Why would Albedo have something to say about a nickname?

"Subaru, come here..." Ainz signaled with his hand. Before Ainz could finish, Subaru was already in front of him. He was more eager to get rid of the curse than Ainz.

Placing his hand on Subaru's chest, Ainz frowned. I don't think a simple [Remove Curse] will work, even [Greater Remove Curse] would struggle to break it. What about [Magic Destruction]?

[Magic Destruction] is a spell that destroys anything that is created by magic, including spells and this curse.

He did not remove the curse immediately, and instead observed the curse. Most of the curses in the New World are mainly debuffs. But this one is not a debuff, it's far superior.

Time and death spells? There are other spells that I don't know. Such complicated sigils, even my Super Tier Spells don't have this many. Pulling out a notebook, Ainz began to write down everything regarding the curse to have Fluder Paradyne research it for him. Maybe there is something to gain from it.

Making sure he wrote everything down, Ainz waved his hand, casting [Magic Destruction], feeling the world turn silent.

Looking at Subaru who turned still, and turning around and looking through the window at the leaves frozen in mid air. "Time Stop spell? No, it's something far more powerful." Touching his stomach, feeling the Orb of Momonga, a hint of realization hit him. This is stronger than what my time resistance can withstand. However, my World Class Item resisted this. That also means, Albedo should be able to move as well.

This is not surprising to Ainz, as even in the New World, the Dragon Lords who use Wild Magic are unable to use it on owners of World Class Items. This is to say, whatever just happened, the World Class Item considered it to be equal to itself in power or even equivalent to Wild magic.

Black shadowy hands emerge from Subaru's body and surges towards Ainz.

Ainz waved his hand, causing the hand to break apart.

"To attack me, is seeking death!" Ainz eyes flash with an ominous aura. [Sense Enemy] and [Discern Enemy], a life signal emerged from Subaru's body, shining with a blood red light!

Focusing on the unknown life signal, Ainz became solemn. This is someone who could rival and even surpass him. The mana alone is far more than what he had, however, to make him retreat is impossible.

"Do not touch what is mine, I will kill you if need be.."

Listening to the voice that was laced with madness and weird feeling of love, Ainz's frown deepened. He promised Subaru to remove the curse, but this person is not someone he can fight without knowing much about.

Information is key to winning a battle, and when it comes to him, it is even more so. Without knowledge, he perhaps could fight at 70% of his capability.

"Why are you doing this? To cause this much harm to him, do you consider this love?"

"I love him so much, I gave him an undying loop. He will exist forever and never truly die, if that is not love, what is?"

"What a crazy thought. I would not care if there wasn't a deal between me and him, but there is. To break that deal, is to tarnish my proud name." Taking the staff of Ainz Ooal Gown out, Ainz stepped forward, his aura glowing with dread and death. "If you give him some power to help with this curse, I will consider this never happened and I will not interfere. But, if there is no compromise, let's fight to the death!"

The unknown voice became quiet, as if weighing its options. "I am the Witch of Envy, no one dares to challenge me, for you to exist and do so, is admirable. Unfortunately, I am currently sealed, so I must compromise."

Witch of Envy? Thinking back to the ward from Arlam Village, Ainz wondered what the connection was between the Witch of Envy and the Witch of Gluttony? And since there are witches for two of the deadly sins, there is a high probability that there is a witch of sloth and so on.

However, this witch does not seem to know much about me. Is it another witch or someone or something else that is responsible for the entrance to this world?

"I will keep my end of the bargain. I will not interfere, just give him some power for himself." Ainz wanted to ask how she brought Subaru to this world, but decided against it. To ask that, is to expose he knows more than he is letting on.

"Remember what you said. Momon is not your name is it? What is this proud name you speak of?"

Was she listening from Subaru's body? Apart from Albedo's true identity, nothing of importance was exposed.

"My name is Ainz Ooal Gown." Ainz did not want to expose too much. For someone like him, information is power, exposing his weakness is impossible. However, this name alone cannot be used to hurt him.

"I will keep it in mind, I look forward to our cooperation, Ainz."

"Likewise, Witch of Envy."

"Witch of Envy" is a title, not my name. My name is Satella."

The shadowy hands disappeared into Sabaru's body, as Satella disappeared, causing the flow of time moving again. Subaru collapsed on the floor, completely unconscious.

At some point, Albedo appeared next to Ainz with her halberd and armor completely donned. "Lord Ainz, my apologies, I was not aware there was such a fearsome being within this human. I have failed you as the Guardian Overseer."

"Enough Albedo. Everything is within my grasp." Ainz shook his head. As soon as Satella made an appearance, Albedo was ordered to watch over the area. He was unsure if there were enemies around. Plus, even though everything looked dangerous, it wasn't.

The fact that he and Albedo were not affected by Satella's magic, means they didn't have to fear Satella.

Ainz put Subaru on his bed, before leaving with Albedo.

Subaru-kun, I have done everything I could. Everything is up to you now.
