Chapter 5764: Misery
Gu Qingfeng and Zhang Yan were extremely happy to be reunited with old friends. They never expected to have the chance to meet them again in their lifetime. The two welcomed everyone to the City Lord's residence and hosted a warm banquet.
Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the Old King's backyard. First, the young eunuch who had been ordered by the King to reprimand the Crown Prince returned to the palace crying and wailing, verbally relaying the Crown Prince's words to the King verbatim.
Immediately after, something happened to Consort Li, the King's new favorite. A group of black-clad individuals stormed into Consort Li's bedchamber overnight and dragged her out. Although the King had dispatched many guards to protect Consort Li, she was still pulled out of her bedchamber. Despite a series of desperate rescue attempts, Consort Li's life was not in danger, but she was truly beaten and assaulted by the group.
It didn't take a genius to figure out who did it...
The King was furious. He rushed to the Jin Yang Palace of the Central Palace, originally intending to reprimand Empress Zhao. Unexpectedly, he happened to run into his own mother, the Empress Dowager, who was present. Instead of successfully reprimanding the Empress, he was beaten by the Empress Dowager and thrown out...
Thus, this hilarious story spread throughout the streets overnight. The King was so angry that he didn't attend court for three consecutive days. On the fourth day, as Empress Dowager Meng's imperial carriage arrived at the King's Chen Palace, the Old King was so frightened that he secretly slipped out the back door and dutifully went to court.
Consort Li's beating became a beating for nothing. It was said that the Consort was so angry that she suffered heart palpitations and lay in her Zhuhua Palace for a full seven days, unable to get out of bed. She even had to be nurtured daily with pigeon soup, three meals a day.
Afterward, Empress Zhao even found an excuse to send someone to Zhuhua Palace to reprimand Consort Li again, punishing her with half a year's worth of monthly allowance. From then on, the Old King calmed down. He didn't dare to confront the Empress and could only secretly use his private funds to help the heartbroken Consort Li.
When these miscellaneous reports were compiled into information and reached Mo Yu's hands, he merely glanced at them indifferently, then tossed them aside, paying no further attention.
However, Qiao Lin, the little student, read these gossip stories as entertainment. When she found them amusing, she would laugh heartily and even slap her thigh. The King is truly as cowardly as he was ten years ago!
"You say your mother is so powerful, why doesn't she kick out all those hussies in the harem?" Qiao Lin asked, completely puzzled.
Mo Yu looked up at the sky, thought for a moment, and said, "Perhaps she pities my father king." This guy, as the King of Beimo, usually has no major hobbies. This fondness for beauties is his only one. His mother probably pities him and doesn't want to extinguish that small hobby?
"Their way of getting along is truly strange."
To say that the King and Queen had a bad relationship? After decades together, how could there be no feelings? If they truly encountered a crisis, the King's first thought would still be Empress Zhao. But to say that their relationship was harmonious, they argued every other day, and the King was constantly infuriated by Empress Zhao...
"Let's not be like them. This way of getting along is really not good!" Mo Yu reached out and pushed the little girl's forehead.
Qiao Lin nodded, then suddenly realized something, widening her eyes and staring at him. "Us?"
Pah!
"Yes, we should get along like Big Brother and Sister-in-law. That's the normal mode." Mo Yu casually picked up a cup of tea and handed it to her. "Drink your tea and then get some rest."
Qiao Lin couldn't help but be amused by this fellow. Who's getting along with you? Getting along with your sister!
"Speaking of which, we've been traveling for two days already, and we really haven't seen any corpse puppets. And that Undead Village you mentioned, is it still ahead?"
"Aren't you going to detour and inspect?" Mo Yu tilted his head and winked at her, chuckling softly. "According to the inspection map you provided, we'll be detouring for at least ten to fifteen days."
"What's with your sister-in-law's obsession with money? She's been away for so many years, and now that she's back, why does she insist on inspecting all her properties?" These properties that can't be moved to Divine State, is she planning to stay and deal with them if she finds problems after the inspection?
Qiao Lin glared at Mo Yu. "Even if it's been hundreds of years, what belongs to my sister is still my sister's! My sister can give it away, but others can't steal it!"
"I need to properly investigate on behalf of my sister and see if anyone has been two-faced behind her back, hmph." When these properties were entrusted to others for safekeeping, they chose honest people. After all these years, who knows if any of them have changed.
The main reason Qiao Mu asked her sister to inspect was to observe human nature. This itself was a complex life experience, but Qiao Lin had not yet understood her sister's intentions. Qiao Mu had truly put a lot of thought into this brother and sister pair.
"Oh," Mo Yu nodded. Compared to the innocent Little Lin, this fellow thought a lot more. With a slight turn of his mind, he could roughly guess his sister-in-law's meaning. It seems Big Sister-in-law thinks that Little Lin is still too simple-minded after all these years of experience.
"Knock, knock, knock." Someone gently knocked on their carriage window.
Little Lin lifted the curtain and saw a beautiful woman with lowered eyes, walking quickly beside the carriage, softly saying, "Your Royal Highness, my princess's back wound has reopened. May we please stop briefly so the Imperial Physician can attend to the wound?"
Little Lin turned to look at Mo Yu, who was sitting beside her. He slightly raised an eyebrow and nodded faintly.
Little Lin curiously glanced out the window and saw a female imperial physician bowing slightly as she followed the maid named Qingluo into Princess Huaizhu's carriage.
"What is she doing?" Qiao Lin asked, looking like a curious child. "I think she's trying to scheme against you, isn't she?"
Mo Yu's lips curved into a faint smile. "Oh, in your opinion, what is she trying to scheme against me?"
"I bet her maid will come looking for you again in a bit," Qiao Lin said with a grin, her eyes darting.
Sure enough, a moment later.
Qingluo ran back, tears streaming down her face, and knelt outside Mo Yu's carriage, softly weeping. "Your Royal Highness, the Princess's injuries are very severe. That Physician Liang said that without a Mystic-grade hemostatic paste or higher, the Princess's back wound will continue to spread."
"You tell me this, what do you want me to do?" Mo Yu sat in the carriage, not even showing his face, only his faint voice came out. His cold tone made the maid Qingluo involuntarily tremble slightly.
"Am I a doctor? You tell me this, and I can treat her??" Mo Yu's voice grew colder with each word. "If Physician Liang cannot cure Princess Huaizhu, then drag him out and deal with him."
Qingluo's body trembled.
Physician Liang, who had been standing by, enjoying the drama, suddenly shuddered in fright and fell to his knees with a thud.
Qiao Lin almost burst out laughing at this scene. The fellow quickly covered her mouth with both hands, coughed lightly twice, and gently nudged Mo Yu with her leg.
