Chapter 119 - Dark voyage chapter 119

SAI SHINU

The throne had vanished. The false god, the illusions, even the throne itself—they were gone. In its place was a small, empty room, save for a simple table in the center. On the table lay the stone, faintly glowing, pulsating as though it held a heartbeat of its own. The godglyph.

I stepped forward, my chest still burning with the mark of the moon. My hands itched to touch it, but my mind hesitated. Two godglyphs were already mine. This one—if I claimed it—would unlock one of the three upper-glyphs, powers beyond comprehension.

Taro's voice broke the silence. "Sai… I think you should take it. You've proven yourself worthy. This upper-glyph could be the key to keeping the world safe."

I shook my head. "I… I can't. I can't just manipulate the laws of reality. Messing with the physics of nature… it's too dangerous. Even I have limits I cannot cross."

Jiro stepped closer, bowing slightly in respect. "I understand, Sai. Your wisdom is what has kept us alive this far. I trust your judgment."

Yosuke, however, did not hide his concern—or his excitement. "Sai… listen. With a power like this, you could change the entire world. You could fix everything, undo the suffering, bring order to chaos. Don't you want that?"

I exhaled, my gaze fixed on the glowing stone. "Yes… you're right. I want to change the world. But not yet. Not like this. There are still more godglyphs out there. More opportunities. I'll have another chance."

I looked at the three of them. Taro, Jiro, Yosuke. "Besides… wouldn't it be better if we could control all of the upper-glyphs together? One person holding all of them alone… that's too much. It's a responsibility no one should bear alone."

Yosuke's golden eyes met mine, reflecting a mix of admiration and frustration. "You really think that way… I've always known you were different, Sai. But… the world could use someone like you now."

I let the silence settle over us, the weight of my decision pressing into my chest like the mark itself. Slowly, I stepped back from the table. My hand lingered over the godglyph for a brief moment, feeling its heat, its potential. Then, deliberately, I let it be.

"We leave it for now," I said softly, turning to the others. "One day, when the time is right, we'll come back. And we'll claim it—not to dominate, but to protect."

Taro nodded, a hint of relief in his expression. Jiro smiled faintly, trusting my choice. Yosuke clenched his fists but did not argue, understanding that this was my decision to make.

For a moment, the room was silent except for the faint pulse of the godglyph. And I felt it—like a promise. A challenge. The world was still waiting, and I would be ready.

Stepping out of the gate, the world felt sharper, somehow more tangible. The air outside seemed cleaner, freer, as if the illusions and trials behind the portal had left a residue of their weight in the atmosphere. I exhaled, letting my shoulders drop for the first time in hours. The tension from the throne of the false god, the lingering echoes of its illusions, still clung to me like a shadow, but at least it was behind us.

Taro, Jiro, and Yosuke fell into step beside me, their expressions unreadable—part relief, part weariness. None of us spoke immediately; the silence was heavy but necessary. I could feel the lingering pulse of the godglyph in the room we left behind, a reminder of the power we'd seen but not taken.

Yosuke broke the quiet first, his voice low but firm. "Sai… are you sure you made the right choice back there?"

I glanced at him, noting the mix of concern and frustration in his eyes. "I didn't take it because some things are too dangerous to hold alone. One person wielding that much power… it could unmake the world as easily as it could save it. I'll claim it when the time is right, when we understand the consequences."

Taro's gaze softened. "Wise, as always. You've never been one to rush into power blindly. That's why we trust you."

Jiro, ever calm, gave a small nod. "And the rest of us will be there when that time comes. Together."

I allowed a faint smile. The weight of leadership and responsibility was heavy, but it felt lighter knowing they were with me. Our path was still dangerous, and the world remained unpredictable, but at least we were ready.

Yet my mind was already shifting ahead. There were more godglyphs out there, more trials, more threats. And there was still the matter of protecting those I cared about—Namae, Yuri, the child, and everyone depending on us. The illusion of the false god had reminded me: the world was dangerous, and power was a tool, not a gift.

"You all did well back there," I said finally, breaking the silence. "We're not finished, but we're stronger because of it. Be proud, each of you."

Taro smiled faintly, a rare softness in his usually stern demeanor. Jiro chuckled quietly. Yosuke didn't smile, but I could see the fire in his eyes, the resolve that mirrored my own.

The world outside the gate was unchanged. Yet I knew that in the shadows, in the corners of existence, the echoes of the throne, the illusions, and the godglyph lingered, waiting for the day they would call to us again.

And when that day came, I would be ready.
