Chapter 2 - Old Friends

I was tired. It was only the afternoon, but I've already done so much. I wanted to sleep. So I did.

My life has been nothing but boring ever since I had entered college. I had no time for fun. During college, I started my own business and it eventually skyrocketed. From then onwards I didn't even have time for a break.

My friends suggested that I should go on dates. I went on two dates. One of them ended up horribly, the other one, we didn't exactly vibe with each other.

When I woke up, it hadn't even been an hour. I hate that my brain doesn't want to sleep when I want to sleep.

Tomorrow I had to go help my sister pick out a dress for the wedding, as well as a dress for me. The wedding was in three weeks and she was panicking.

The next day we went to the bridal shop. She picked out dresses while me and my mother watched.

"When will you find someone, Roxy?" My mother asked.

I know she meant well. She's just concerned that I'm alone all the time, only focused on my work and nothing else. It can get lonely at times. The thing is, I haven't found anyone that was right for me. I didn't find someone that matched my vibe, didn't care that I would be working most of the time and would barely make the most of what I can with them.

"I don't know." I replied. "I haven't found the right guy yet."

"If not a guy, then a girl?"

I blinked twice at her. Did my mom think I was lesbian? Or was she telling me to expand my options?

I laughed.

"It's ok mom, I'm straight."

"How about this dress?" Maya came out of the dressing room.

Me and my mom gasped at the same time. She looked like a royal princess.

"This is the one!" I smiled bright and hugged her.

Maya gave a little twirl. Her fiancé is going to cry at the wedding alter seeing how beautiful she is.

We bought the dress, and the bridesmaids dresses too. I wasn't wearing the same dress as the bridesmaids, but it was the same color. A dark shade of royal red.

"I hope when I toss the bouquet, you get it." My sister leaned to me.

So everyone wants me to find a partner, huh? Did I seem that lonely?

I saw Mayven while we were walking towards the car.

"You guys go home without me. I have some catching up to do." I told them, and they nodded.

I walked over to Mayven.

She had curly ginger hair till her upper back that shone in the sunlight, bright green eyes, a fair skin tone with freckles all over her face and neck. Her features looked more mature, than the last time I saw her. I know it had been years since we actually saw each other and not from photos or video calls, but it feels different.

The only thing that felt the same was that she was still short. Just a bit taller than my sister.

"Mayven?" I tapped on her shoulder.

She turned to me, confused who it was, realized it was me and smiled brighter than the sun.

"YOU'RE BACK!!!" She gave me a tight hug, and I couldn't breathe.

I hugged her back. "Yea, I also need to breathe, Mayven."

"Sorry," She let go. "It's just that, it's been a long time. Wait, this is perfect, we can go shop for dresses for the reunion!"

"Shop? Is it a formal event?"

"Duh! What did you think silly? Also, have you thought of dying that streak again? You looked better with it. It really complimented you and made your personality stand out."

"I'm thinking about it."

I really don't know when I'll dye it again. It doesn't feel right to do it yet, at the same time it does.

"We could go to the salon? I'm thinking about getting a head massage."

Maybe dying my hair again could change something? It could be the start to my happiness again? That was a silly idea, but I did miss the old me. The one that would have fun and break the rules. I could bring a part of her back.

"You know what? I'll dye my hair again."

Mayven jumped. We were headed to the salon and she was telling me about her and Luke and how well they were doing.

So they were still together since high-school. I expect Luke to propose any day now then.

We entered the salon and the same hairdresser was there since I was in high-school. She greeted me with a warm welcome, saw my hair, and immediately got to work without asking what I wanted. I guess she already knew that I wanted my old look.

After a while she was done. It was back. The bright electric blue streak that contrasts my dark brown hair. My hairstyle in high-school.

We did our shopping for the reunion, which was a bit too early if you ask me, but I was glad I got to hang out with my best friend again.

For the first time in a while, I actually had fun again. I knew it wouldn't last, but the momentarily happiness was everything.

We got lunch at our favorite diner back in high-school. While most of them changed, this one stayed the same. It was very homely.

"So everyone is coming to the reunion?" I asked with fries in my mouth and slurping my lemonade.

"Yea, everyone. Even Felix." Mayven smirked at me.

"Hey! That was a long time ago, I moved on and I'm pretty sure he has a girlfriend or something now." I rolled my eyes.

"He's still single."

I raised an eyebrow.

"So you are interested." Mayven leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand.

"Yea right, I don't even have the time." I scoffed.

"Your loss." Mayven shrugged.

Still single? I wonder how he looks like now. I leaned back on the chair and continue to sip my lemonade.

If everyone was coming, did that mean Mason would also be there?

I groaned at that thought.

Well, it has been 8 years, so there was a possibility that he had changed, but then again he was too proud so I doubt it. I shouldn't judge so quickly. It's been a long time after all. But if he does rub his achievements in my face, I'm seriously going to throw a magazine at him with me in the cover page on it.

I wanted to wipe that stupid smirk of his for years.

After eating, me and Mayven went our separate ways. I went to walk home. Just my luck, it started raining.

"Need help getting home?" A familiar voice behind me offered. I turned around to see a man with his motorcycle with his helmet on.

Who was he?
