Chapter 48 - Chapter 48- The Bone Seers Gamble

POV The Bone Seer, deep in hiding… somewhere beneath the roots of a dying mountain.

The stone walls pulsed with a heartbeat that wasn't hers. Old, corrupted magic swam through the cracks like blood, thick, black, and slow. The Bone Seer stood barefoot in a circle of carved runes lit by stolen soulflame. Her breath trembled as she whispered a name she hadn't dared speak in centuries.

Not the Forgotten King's. Oh no.

The name of his enemy.

"If he finds out what I'm doing…" she muttered, fingers trembling as she added another drop of dragon's bile into the cauldron, "...he'll peel my soul like fruit."

But she had no choice. Rhiannan was awakening.

The goddess born. The wild card.

And the Bone Seer, traitorous bitch that she was, knew she couldn't serve just the darkness anymore.

Not with what was coming.

🕸️ Her Secret Network

She whispered a command, and the shadows around her rippled. Figures stepped forward, wearing cloaks woven from pure Void silk, their faces hidden by ever shifting masks.

The Revenant Whisperer -A woman who could speak to the dead that had been erased from time.

The Blind Oracle – A fae boy with no eyes and visions that came in screams.

Mercy – A former assassin who claimed to have once kissed the Forgotten King and survived.

"Infiltrate the trial," she hissed to them. "Plant yourselves. Watch. Intervene only if it tips too far."

The Whisperer tilted her head. "And if the king sees us?"

The Bone Seer's laugh was dry and cracked. "Then burn your own bodies before he gets the chance."

She thought she was being clever.

Thought her veil was strong.

Thought her whispered rebellion might go unnoticed.

Until the shadows behind her blinked.

Her blood froze.

"Little bone rat…"

The Forgotten King's voice echoed from the dark, low and cold enough to rot teeth. "Are you scheming against me again?"

The runes shattered.

The circle went black.

Her secret agents dissolved into ash and screaming.

She dropped to her knees, spine locking as a pressure like the weight of a dying star slammed into her chest. Black thorns sprouted across her skin.

"Mercy, my king," she rasped, spitting up bile and bone chips. "I serve only you..."

He sneered through her soul.

"You serve fear, bone witch. And I will be its god."

He left her, broken and heaving, bleeding from every orifice. The cave reeked of rot and betrayal.

And she whispered one final thing before passing out...

"I hope the girl kills you."

Back in the shadows of Faenet, a glitched, half deleted post flickers live for two seconds before disappearing:

#TrialSabotage

👤@UnknownSource: "It's not just traitors inside the maze. Something ancient is watching. And it knows her name."

Location: Faenet, trending faster than lightning fucked gossip.

Mood: Conspiracy. Meltdown. Mass hysteria.

It happened at 3:03 a.m.....a glitch, a flicker, a fucking ghost of a warning.

A dark post blinked live for two seconds:

"It's not just traitors inside the maze. Something ancient is watching. And it knows her name."

Then it was gone....vanished like it never existed.

But in the age of Faenet?

Screenshots were faster than spells.

In private DMs, Sasha zaps a message to Rhiannan's tablet:

Sasha:

"That two second post was bone network code. Only someone inside the Bone Seer's core could've leaked it before they died.

Whatever did this… melted their souls.

I've got firewall wards on Faenet now. But if he wants in… no server's gonna stop him."

Rhiannan stormed into the war room, her cloak billowing behind her like a thundercloud about to explode. Her five mates followed, weapons sheathed but expressions tense. Sasha had already pulled up the Faenet stream, projecting it mid-air above the long obsidian war table. The post, the glitch, the comments, the chaos...it replayed on a loop.

Barrik was already there, chugging coffee from a tankard labeled "Boom Juice." Zaiya paced the length of the room, her crimson dreadlocks swaying as lightning flickered off her shoulders.

"This is a coordinated curse drop," Zaiya growled, slamming a dagger into the table. "Not a hack. Not a glitch. Something wanted us to know it's watching."

Kazra slinked in last, barefoot and wrapped in a silk robe like she'd just left a lover in flames. She took one look at the loop and hissed, "That wasn't Bone Seer magic. That was Ancient. Forbidden."

Rhiannan slammed her palms onto the table, her voice laced with fury. "Why now? We're prepping for the trials, we just rooted out traitors, and now the net explodes with some shadow coded death warning?"

Elisha cracked his knuckles, eyes molten gold. "Because it wants to rattle us."

"It's working," Liam muttered, haunted eyes fixed on the silver thread of tension humming through the air.

Kaleb growled. "We need a full purge of the castle, magical and physical. We don't know what else might be lurking."

Sasha projected a 3D map of the castle. "Already running. Every corridor, every crypt, every comm channel. But that post didn't come from here. It came from a dead network. Which means someone tried to warn us with their last breath."

"We need answers," Rhiannan said. "Real ones. If this Forgotten King knows my name, I want to know his, his weakness, his laundry schedule....everything."

Mo popped his tiny head out from behind a fruit platter. "Or you could ask the super nerd who keeps tagging you."

Everyone turned.

"What?" Mo blinked. "They've got a Faenet account called 👤@LoreLibraryBabe and they've posted, like, twenty conspiracy threads about the Bone Seer, Forgotten Kings, ancient death prophecies, and they're not wrong. Like, scary accurate."

Sasha blinked. "Cross checking now... gods. He's right. They cracked the encryption on one of the Seer's old relics before the council did."

Zaiya raised a brow. "Get them here. Now."

Mo grinned. "Already did. She's on her way to the castle."
