Chapter 2 - Chapter 1 – New Game Plus?

Hi. Name's Migel, and I was in the middle of modding my favorite game—Cyberpunk 2077. I'd already one-hundred-percented it, seen every ending, played the DLC. But still... something felt missing. A big part of it? V never really got a good ending. I know CDPR's planning more updates in the future—maybe a real conclusion—but I couldn't wait.

I usually play as a hybrid: hacker, brawler, stealth master. My own twist on V. But this time, I wanted more. I modded the hell out of my character—every perk, all legendary cyberware, wild-looking bikes, insane weapons, even stuff the vanilla game never allowed. It was a perfect playground.

After installing the final mod—Lola, my custom German Shepherd companion—I hit the sack, grinning like a kid on Christmas Eve. I couldn't wait to jump back in.

...Then everything changed.

...

...

"Why is it so bright and windy?"

When I opened my eyes, I immediately squinted against the light. Sand blew into my face, forcing me to shut them again. My lips were dry. Skin burning.

"Wait... sand?"

I opened my eyes again, slowly this time. Cacti. Sand dunes. Blue sky. And—

"Woof."

A dog stood beside me. A German Shepherd.

"Hi there, little buddy. Why are you all alone out here?"

I stretched out a hand. The dog wagged her tail and jumped up happily, licking my fingers. A small smile tugged at my lips despite the confusion.

"Well... you're not alone anymore. Now the real question is—where the hell am I?"

While petting the dog, I caught sight of my clothes: a green long-sleeved jacket, black tactical pants, green shirt, matching green sneakers. Familiar. Too familiar.

"Wait a minute..."

Then it hit me. These were the exact clothes I'd given my Cyberpunk avatar.

Before I could say another word, a floating window popped up in front of me. Like a hologram from thin air.

"What the hell—?"

It was the pause menu from the game. My character stood there on the screen—same clothes, same build, green hair, glowing green eyes. Except... the face. It looked just like me.

"Is this... me?"

Somehow, I could interact with the interface without touching it. Like it was hardwired into my thoughts. Might as well explore, right?

[Hours later]

After combing through every tab, testing every feature, I had no doubt about it. This wasn't a dream. I'd been transmigrated into Cyberpunk 2077. Inside my modded character's body.

I didn't know how to feel—did I die? Teleport? What happened to my real body? My family? My friends?

I took a deep breath. My life had been fine. Not perfect, but filled with memories I was thankful for. But now, I was in one of the most dangerous worlds imaginable.

And yet... I didn't feel fear.

Because I was overpowered.

According to the character sheet, I was maxed out. Level 99. Every skill tree full. Every piece of cyberware installed and fully optimized.

Still, I didn't trust just the numbers. I tested it.

I walked to a nearby boulder and punched it, cautiously. I didn't want to break my hand.

Instead, I put a fist-sized hole in the rock.

"Holy crap."

Lola barked.

"Woof, woof!"

I grinned. "And I wasn't even using Gorilla Arms."

Speaking of which, I opened my Cyberware tab and equipped Mantis Blades. No pain. No need for a Ripperdoc. No surgery. The blades remained hidden unless I activated them.

"Perfect. No one will see it coming."

Reality began to sink in. This world wasn't a game anymore. People wouldn't hesitate to kill for eddies or implants. And now, I was a walking goldmine with a rare dog companion.

Animals in Night City? Practically extinct. That made Lola a target. A big one.

She sat beside me, tongue out, tail wagging. I knelt beside her.

"You're special, huh? Forgot to mention—Lola here's my last mod. The game didn't allow permanent companions, so I made her myself. Loyal, smart... and just like me—completely broken."

I tested her durability earlier, by accident. Threw a boulder too close, and it shattered on her head. She didn't even flinch. Just looked mildly annoyed.

Then I tossed a smaller rock into the distance. "Fetch."

She disappeared in a blur—literally leaving a crater behind—and reappeared seconds later with the rock in her jaws. The dent she left in the dirt looked like a bomb hit.

I needed to know how strong her bite was. So, I pulled up my inventory and grabbed a common pistol—something I could easily replace.

"Lola, bite this."

She obeyed. Metal crunched like dry leaves. A huge chunk of the gun was missing.

My eyes widened. "I feel sorry for the poor bastard who tries to snatch you."

Lola tilted her head.

"Okay, spit it out."

She bolted.

"LOLA! No—come back here!"

From a distance, two blurs streaked across the desert like jets—man and dog.

[A few minutes later]

"Okay, Lola. You had your fun."

"Woof, woof."

I smiled, but it didn't last. On the horizon, I spotted it.

Skyscrapers. Neon. Smoke.

I opened the map just to confirm. The label appeared instantly:

Night City.

The beast itself.

I took a deep breath and opened the vehicle tab. Picked one of my more durable modded cars. Nothing too flashy, but it could take a hit.

No sense driving a glass cannon through a war zone.

"Stats are maxed. Cyberware modded to hell. Physically, I'm more than ready. Mentally? I've never fired a gun. Never been in a fight. Never killed."

A strange thrill ran down my spine.

"But for some reason... I'm excited."

Lola barked again. Her eyes glowed faintly, synced to mine.

"From now on," I said quietly, staring at the city in the distance, "I'm not Miguel anymore. I need a name that fits this world."

Just a single digit. Clean. Mysterious. Symbolic.

"From here on, I'm 8... and I'm going to become a legend."

Lola barked in agreement.
