Chapter 1 - Neonate - Chapter 1

Who would've thought that dating a goth girl could end up turning you into a vampire?

Renan obviously never considered the possibility of vampires—or any other kind of creature like that—actually existing. After all, how could beings like that be real? They were the stuff of legends and horror stories. Fiction. Pure fiction.

"I already told you, it's all true," Luna said, pouting. She was annoyed, having explained everything in detail to the boy, only for him not to believe her.

"Yeah... but... it's still a lot for me to take in," he replied.

It was true that he felt different. He should've been hungry or thirsty by now, but the truth was, he felt nothing. The only thing he could feel at that moment was a strange, unnatural cold air caressing over his skin even though both of them were in a dark closed bedroom.

"But why did you turn me into a vampire?!" he said, clenching his fists.

"That's something I can't explain just yet," the short-haired girl said, then pulled Renan into a hug, pressing his face against her full chest.

He felt somewhat comforted being embraced by her arms, yet he couldn't feel her warmth. It was so strange. It was as if his body were truly dead, even if he could still control it.

"If I'm a vampire... do I have to drink blood? I can't go out in the sun anymore?" His voice faltered for a moment. There was so much he wanted to know. "Are you a vampire too?"

The boy whimpered a bit, the feeling of helplessness was starting to get to him.

"Shh... It's okay," she whispered, gently running her fingers through his black hair and placing soft kisses on his forehead. "No. I'm not a vampire," she said.

Renan didn't know whether to feel relieved or more worried upon hearing that.

"But I'm not entirely human either," she added.

"But it doesn't matter about me right now," she said, gently holding his face and looking into his eyes. The boy's eyes seemed darker than usual, and they no longer had the light that human eyes typically held.

"All you need to know is that I did this for our own good," Luna said with conviction.

"So listen carefully to what I'm about to tell you. Among vampires, you're now considered a Neonate. At some point, a higher-ranking vampire will come after you. there's a strong chance it'll be the Young Blood of this territory. They'll hunt you down and try to destroy you to eliminate the competition. But I'll be here to protect you!"

Renan didn't know what to say. It all sounded terrifying.

"But don't worry," she said with a genuine smile. "I'll protect you, my love. I'll always protect you, because you're my special boy."

Renan looked at her, still lost and afraid. But she was just as gentle and stunning as she had been that first night they met.

He had gone for the first time to a nightclub that had recently opened near the college where he studied. His friends had to do everything they could to convince him to go, since he was painfully shy.

The moment he stepped inside, he was hit by a sensory explosion of lights, scents, and music. It was nothing like what he was used to. In that chaos, he got separated from his college friends—and that's when he met Luna.

She looked like a dark goddess in her blood-red dress, with short black hair and all the gothic accessories she wore… She was perfect.

"I love you," he said, still confused by all the conflicting emotions inside him. Everything might have changed, but the feeling of love at first sight remained. Even now, after he'd been turned into what most would consider a monster.
