Chapter 200 - Chapter 200: Arrogant First, Humble Later

"My purpose for coming here, Director, should be quite clear—it's regarding the transfer of Nohara Rin."

Takeshi didn't seem to catch the sarcasm in the other man's tone and instead earnestly explained the reason for his visit.

"I heard that the reason Director declined Rin was due to a shortage of personnel at the hospital. What a coincidence—recently, the department my father is in underwent a reorganization under the orders of the Fourth Hokage, and some medical-nin happened to be left without assignments."

Casually picking up the cup on the table and pouring himself some water, Takeshi gently pushed it in front of Nobi Matsu.

"There are about twenty of them. I wonder if that would help ease the hospital's staffing issue."

Twenty people... his father?

Nobi Matsu's eyes narrowed slightly. So that's it. He had been wondering where this brat came from, wearing a jōnin's uniform. Turns out it was internal clan promotion.

Black hair and black eyes—there were several major shinobi clans that matched that description. He couldn't quite pinpoint which one at the moment.

But when it came to his son's happiness, as a father, he wouldn't back down easily.

It was time to let these shinobi brats understand the Nobi clan's prestige.

"I'm afraid even so, it won't be enough to relieve the hospital's shortage of personnel. Nohara Rin must still remain here. By the way, I'm curious—who is your esteemed father? Perhaps I've worked with him before."

Nobi Matsu rudely picked up the tea Takeshi had poured him. He was curious to hear exactly who this girl-looking brat's father was.

"My father is Shimura Danzō. He currently serves in the ANBU Training Division."

"Pfft!"

The water he had just sipped instantly sprayed out of Nobi Matsu's mouth. Luckily, Takeshi had anticipated this and dodged in time, narrowly avoiding a faceful of spit.

Why did he anticipate it?

Because when Takeshi had poured the water, he noticed it was freshly boiled—the kettle was still hot.

"Haaah... Tsk... haah... So it's Jōnin Takeshi..."

Breathing heavily from the scalding pain in his mouth, Nobi Matsu didn't dare stay seated. He stood up quickly and respectfully invited Takeshi to sit.

He had misjudged. At first glance, he thought the person before him was a woman. If not for that, he would've recognized Takeshi sooner.

Thinking back on his earlier attitude, Nobi Matsu wanted to slap himself a hundred times.

Even putting aside that he was Danzō-sama's son, being a disciple of the Third Hokage was no small matter either.

Even if Tsunade hadn't become the head of the medical corps, he would still have to respectfully address her as Tsunade-sama whenever he saw her.

Part of that was due to her relation to Hashirama, but her status as a disciple of the Third was also a significant factor.

"Don't be nervous, Director Nobi Matsu. Didn't you just say maybe my father had worked with you before? I'll mention it to him later and have him come chat with you in person."

Takeshi still wore a smiling expression and stubbornly refused to accept Nobi Matsu's invitation to sit.

"How could I possibly compare to Adviser Danzō—please don't joke like that. Oh right, you came to discuss Rin's transfer, yes? Look at this—you're too polite. If you'd just sent someone to inform me, the matter would've been settled right away. No need for you to come personally."

Seeing Nobi Matsu being so servile, the previous admiration he had for Obito's bravery vanished. He was now utterly speechless.

Arrogant first, humble later. The thought alone was hilarious.

Who says the shinobi world only values strength? Social skills are also a vital discipline.

Obito was certain—if he had come himself, even flying the Uchiha name, this guy called Nobi Matsu wouldn't have reacted like this.

...

"Eh, Director Nobi Matsu, I think you're mistaken. Didn't you just say twenty people weren't enough? Let me add two more. You two, come in."

Takeshi couldn't help teasing the man further after seeing how ridiculous he looked.

As Takeshi's voice fell, two ANBU who had been waiting outside the room entered immediately.

Nobi Matsu's face, already pale from the earlier shock, went even whiter. He hurriedly waved his hands and said no, then suddenly seemed to remember something and dashed back to his desk, rummaging frantically.

"Ah, look at my memory! The Personnel Department just informed me—we've recently hired over thirty new staff. The staffing issue has already been resolved! I'll sign Rin's transfer approval right now—immediately!"

Putting on a sudden expression of realization, Nobi Matsu casually picked up a document and declared the matter resolved.

"It's really been resolved?"

Takeshi asked, sounding unconvinced.

"Truly resolved! You can rest assured—completely!"

Seeing how Nobi Matsu was practically groveling, Takeshi was finally satisfied and left Konoha Hospital with the signed transfer papers.

To be honest, this was the first time he'd ever done something like playing dumb to bully someone. And he had to admit—it felt pretty good.

Still, he should probably not do it too often. If he ever ran into someone whose backing was stronger than his, he'd be the one groveling next time.

Everyone in Konoha: Someone with stronger backing than you? There aren't many of those in the entire village.

...

"Is this really okay?"

Holding the signed transfer form, Rin couldn't believe how easily the matter had been resolved.

"What's not okay about it? If anyone's going to get scolded, it'll be me, not you. Don't worry."

Takeshi stretched lazily and smiled at Rin.

He spoke casually, but the two ANBU behind him exchanged glances, silently memorizing what he said.

They would make sure to monitor that Nobi Matsu guy later—to see if he really dared badmouth Young Master Takeshi behind his back.

...

"Alright, thank you both for coming with me and messing around even during your break."

Takeshi turned around and addressed the two ANBU.

"Oh right, on your way back, could you please deliver this application to Tsunade-san for me? Obito and I are heading back to the hot springs to continue playing, so we won't go in person. Bye now!"

He stuffed the form into one of their hands, then led Rin and Obito off toward the hot springs.

"Thank you."

As Takeshi walked off, Rin gave the two ANBU a respectful bow before hurrying after him.

...

On the way back, while Rin was distracted, Takeshi lightly elbowed Obito.

"So, how was that? Pretty generous of me, right? I even mobilized ANBU for your lifelong happiness."

"Hehe, I knew you're the best, Takeshi!"

Obito grinned stupidly.

"Flattery won't cut it. You need to prove it with action!"

Takeshi looked at him like a disappointed parent.

"Uh… how should I prove it?" Obito asked, confused.

"Hmm… let me think..."

Though he said that, Takeshi wasn't sure what task to give him right away.

Wait—actually, there was something.

"I do have a favor to ask. But it might not align with Konoha's interests. Will you still do it?"

"I'll do it!"

Obito didn't hesitate at all.

Hmm?

Wasn't this guy filled with the Will of Fire? Why'd he agree so quickly?

Even Takeshi was caught off guard by how readily he accepted.
