Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

The car smoothly pulled up to the curb, dropping Rosalyn off at her home. She stepped out with a sense of relief and confidence, the weight of the school day releasing as she took in the familiar view of her house. The vibrant flowers in the garden swayed gently in the evening breeze, and the warm glow of the living room lights seemed to beckon her inside. As she confidently made her way into the sitting room, her nanny, Viviana, immediately took note of the fact that Rosalyn was not wearing her school uniform.

"Darling, what on earth happened to you?" Viviana inquired, her voice laced with genuine concern. Rosalyn noticed the way Viviana's brow furrowed, a clear indication of how much she cared. The last thing she wanted was to worry Viviana, who had been more than just a nanny to her; she had been a confidante, a guide, and in many ways, a second mother.

"I'm fine, really," Rosalyn reassured her, but the words felt hollow. The truth was, she didn't want to admit how her day had unfolded. She had faced challenges that made her heart pound, and the thought of engaging in deep conversation about it felt daunting. She settled onto the couch, taking a moment to gather her thoughts. Her mind raced as she contemplated the challenges she would face with Mercedes the following day—challenges she was not ready to share.

Viviana settled next to her, the vibe between them instantly shifting to a deeper connection. "You know you can tell me anything," she said softly, searching Rosalyn's eyes. There was an unspoken bond between them, one that was forged through years of shared experiences, laughter, and even tears.

"Why do you always seem to worry when the smallest things happen to me?" Rosalyn asked with a hint of curiosity. Her gesture to massage Viviana's shoulders was both an act of affection and a gentle attempt to lighten the mood. However, Viviana gently took Rosalyn's hands away from her shoulders and urged her to sit back down.

"Listen here, young lady," Viviana began with a sense of authority that resonated in the room. "You are the most important person in my life, and it is my responsibility to keep a careful watch over you to guard against any harm, no matter how insignificant it may seem. To the outside world, you are a grown teenager, but to me, you will always remain my baby, and you will forever hold a special place in my heart." As Rosalyn absorbed Viviana's heartfelt words, she felt a surge of emotion well up within her, and tears began to cascade down her cheeks.

In a moment of nostalgia, she embraced Viviana tightly, holding onto the cherished memories of her mother. So many memories flooded back—her mother's smile, the way she used to tuck Rosalyn in at night, and her soothing voice that made everything feel right in the world.

"Enough of this dramatic display; you're making me cry unnecessarily," Viviana responded, brushing Rosalyn's tears away with tenderness. She gently brushed Rosalyn's hair aside, allowing her to regain her composure. Laughter bubbled up between them, and it provided a welcome distraction from the whirlpool of emotions swirling within Rosalyn's heart.

"My dear, your parents are now in Los Angeles", Viviana mentioned to Rosalyn.

"That's fast", Rosalyn commented. "But I really do not understand why they made me move to Los Angeles too. I wasn't staying with them before and even now, I still am not staying with them so what's the essence really", she continued.

"Do you know? your mum loves you so much and wants everything good for you", Viviana replied.

Rosalyn gave her a stern stare. "Well, I only feel the hatred she has for me since that's all she ever shows"

"I really need to go freshen up now," Rosalyn stated firmly as she stood up, reestablishing her independence. The day had drained her emotionally, and she craved the solitude of her room.

"Of course, but I have made your favorite fruit juice for you. However, you still haven't shared what caused your unusual appearance today," Viviana remarked with a hint of insistence, her eyes reflecting an unwavering resolve to uncover the truth.

"Uhm... I'm really in a hurry now," Rosalyn replied, her heart racing as she swiftly made her exit to escape Viviana's probing questions. She knew that Viviana could sense that something was amiss, but for now, she needed space to think her thoughts through.

She climbed the stairs, her feet moving briskly as she approached her room. The familiar scent of lavender filled the air, a comforting reminder of the nights spent reading books and indulging in fantasies. As she closed the door behind her, she felt a wave of solitude wash over her, giving her the sanctuary she desperately needed. Rosalyn allowed her shoulders to slump as she collapsed onto her bed, burying her face in her pillow.

"She is such a bright and joyful young woman. I sincerely hope sorrow never crosses her path," Viviana thought to herself, smiling gently as she returned to the kitchen to complete the fruit juice. She stored it carefully in the refrigerator to keep it fresh, her heart still heavy with concern.

The Luxor family made their grand entrance at Aurora's estate, and she welcomed them with a warm smile, though her eyes betrayed a hint of tension. "Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Luxor, Ethan," she said, her voice gracious. "It's an honor to have you here tonight."

Luxor Sr. smiled, his eyes scanning the elegant decor. "The pleasure is all ours, Aurora. Your estate is stunning."

As Luxor Sr. approached Aurora, his eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, Aurora's mask slipped. Her gaze turned icy, her eyes flashing with anger and anguish. The air seemed to vibrate with tension as she gazed at Luxor Sr., her expression a mix of pain and fury.

But she quickly regained her composure, her smile returning as she greeted the rest of the Luxor family. Ethan nodded in agreement, his eyes locking onto Aurora's. "Yes, it's beautiful. Thank you for inviting us."

Aurora's partner, Julian, stepped forward, shaking hands with the Luxor family. "Welcome, everyone. We're delighted to have you here tonight."

As the greetings were exchanged, the sound of soft music filled the air, and the aroma of exquisite cuisine wafted through the room. The Luxor family was then offered drinks and hors d'oeuvres, and they mingled with Aurora's family and other guests.

Ivan's eyes lingered on Aurora, appreciating her beauty. She was stunning in a red gown that accentuated her curves, her dark hair styled elegantly, and her eyes sparkling with warmth. "You look lovely tonight, Aurora," Ivan said, his voice low and smooth.

Aurora smiled, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Thank you, Ivan. You're quite charming yourself."

As they chatted, Ivan's gaze held hers, and he couldn't help but feel drawn to her. But then, his expression turned thoughtful, and he said, "Your face seems familiar," Ivan said, his brow furrowed in concentration. "Have we met before?"

Aurora's expression remained neutral, but a flicker of awareness danced in her eyes. "I don't think so," she said with a polite smile. "But I'm flattered you think I'm memorable."

Sophia, who had been observing the exchange, chimed in. "Perhaps you've seen her in magazines or news articles, Ivan? She's quite prominent in the business world."

Ethan nodded in agreement. "Yes, that's probably it. Aurora's been featured in several publications lately."

Others at the gathering also nodded in affirmation, and the conversation moved on. Ivan, however, couldn't shake off the feeling that he had seen Aurora before. He made a mental note to look into her background, wondering if there was more to her than met the eye.

Meanwhile, Luxor Sr. seemed oblivious to the tension that had flashed between him and Aurora, but Aurora's eyes continued to hold a hint of wariness, her gaze drifting back to him with a mixture of anger and pain. The evening had just begun, and already, the undercurrents of tension were palpable.
