Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: Loser

Dave Pendragon was the textbook definition of a loser in high school. He had no friends, got bullied and beaten up and played games all day in his room.

One thing he hated the most was getting pitied on by others.

The person he hated the most was Dylan, the guy who bullied him for no reason at all.

This day however, Dave thought was going to be different.

Today was Dave's birthday.

Dave was a highschooler in his second year of high school.

He said long, straight black hair with a thin, skeletal build.

His looks were above average but you wouldn't notice them first because of his thick, taped glasses that he wore.

He was 179cm tall. But with a lanky build, he stood no chance against others in his same class

Dylan on the other hand, was a 190cm athletic being full of muscle. He was on the football team at school and the popular dude who everyone wanted to be friends with. He had good looks and but a rotten personality but no one dared stood up to him.

Dylan bullied Dave all the time. But, no one stood up for him because he was the son of the richest guy in town who donated the most to the school district and also because no one wanted to be on his bad side.

Dave was trying no to get in Dylan's way today because he wanted to have a peaceful school day once in a while.

However, Dylan had other plans.

Just as Dave was walking to his usual lunch spot under the stairs going to the second floor, Dylan put his foot out in front of him.

Dave tripped on his foot and the milk packet on his lunch tray went flying towards Dylan and exploded on his designer shoes and pants.

Dylan's face was red with fury. He then grabbed Dave shoulder and smiled.

"Why don't we have a little chat outside, huh?" Dylan said while steering Dave to the outside of the school near the basketball court.

Dave almost sh*t his pants while trying to find ways to run away without being beaten up on the one day he wanted to live peacefully.

*****

Dave was an orphan. His parents left him at the gate with a little piece of paper which had his name on it. Atleast that's what the nanny at the orphanage had said to him.

Dave's life was by no means a happy one. He lived with five other children in a small, cramped, room while the orphanage was trying not to shut down due to lack of funding from both the people and then local municipality.

They never had enough to eat. So Dave would give most of his food at every meal to the little kids.

"You need it more, you're still growing. Now grow up and be a strong boy", he would say to Ethan, whom he regarded as his little brother.

******

Suddenly, Dylan held his shoulder and whispered into his ears,

" Let's go have a little chat bud"

Dave knew what the "little chat" meant. He was getting beaten the sh*t out of.

As both of them were walking towards the basketball where Dylan was going to "talk" with Dave about what happened in the cafeteria, Dave was waiting for the right moment when Dylan would let go of his shoulder so that he could bolt.

He really didn't want to get beaten up on his birthday.

Just as Dylan let go of Dave's shoulder to push him onto the wall, Dave dodged at the right moment and bolted across the parking lot in front of the court.

He was just running across the road when a car was which was going over the speed limit hit him.

CRASSHH

The sound of someone getting slammed against the pavement could be heard throughout the court.

Dylan quickly bolted back into the school in order to not get in trouble.

Before he knew it, Dave was lying on the ground with blood spilled everwhere

'I guess this is the best birthday ever... I get to leave this life behind. Oh God, why did you have to do this to me, I didn't even have a girlfriend yet'.

And just like that, Dave Pendragon left the world right next to a bloody sidewalk after he was hit by a drunk driver driving 50 miles over the speed limit.
