Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: Odd beginnings

There was an empty void.

A void that didn't have a beginning nor end.

But somewhere in that void, something took place.

Swashes of yellow swirled around, and slowly, they started forming letters.

Those letters formed words, and those words formed sentences.

'' There are 3 roles a being can follow in their story. That is to be the author, the reader, or the main character. ''

'' An author creates the main character, and the reader reads the tale of how the main character achieves his goals. But they are all reliant on each other, creating an infinite paradox. ''

'' There is no author without a reader, no reader without an author. No main character without an author, and no author without a main character to write about. ''

'' That is why all three of them need to exist. ''

'' Beyond death lies 2 fates. Regression and reincarnation. It's quite hard to come up with a third. Especially when it doesn't exist. But if it did, it would go something like this. ''

Freedom

Every slave longs for freedom. But perhaps there is no freedom in this world. Perhaps the only freedom that exists is the freedom to choose the chains that bind us.

The stubborn man is a slave to his ambitions. A hero is a slave to justice. A villain is a slave to his twisted ideals. And the religious man is a slave to God.

So what about me?

I am none of those. I am a nobody, and I have nothing.

I once had a family, but it was taken away from me.

My sister killed my parents and abandoned me when I was a child.

With no money or family to my name. I was enslaved.

I once had friends, but they were all enslaved and killed by slavers.

I once had a dream.

But it no longer exists.

Carrying a bunch of bricks on his back, was a pale young boy with a head of black hair and dark green eyes. His body was toned and strong for a 16-year-old. One that had endured 5 years of torture and manual labour.

He was Aster.

A name given to him by his mother.

Why?

Here in the outskirts, slavery persists. The poor and forgotten populate the place. The Outskirts is a place where people live while rotting, barely living from one day to the next.

So in the midst of this land of despair, one might often look up to the stars in the sky.

The name Aster means star, a symbol of hope.

'' Didn't I tell you to move faster ?! '' A slaver yelled as his whip lashed at the pregnant woman.

There was a long line of slaves carrying sums of bricks on their backs.

'' If I catch you slowing down again I'll rip the brat in your stomach right out for ya! ''

The man let out an annoying laugh, it sounded like crazed seagulls.

His name was Markus.

Staring at the line of slaves from the back, a dark and malicious intent formed inside of Aster. He hated slavers and the slaves under them. The fools who didn't even try fighting for their freedom or rights. They disgusted him.

Aster silently trailed behind them as they moved ahead.

He wanted two things: To kill one of the slavers, Markus. And escape this hellhole.

The man who made his life hell as a slave. He tormented Aster and gave him a huge diagonal scar on his back, spat in his food and killed all of his friends because he could.

And Aster was someone who never forgot his grudges…

Currently, they are making their way back to the iron ring. The area where slaves are auctioned and sold.

Over the last few years. Aster had done nothing but tolerate his environment. And now, the first step to his plan of killing Markus was nearly complete. Every 5 years, a slave would get the chance to get auctioned and sold off. But it's nothing more than a stupid trap that's meant to give these wretches false hope. In truth, most slave buyers are even worse than the slavers themselves. That's not counting the low chances of being picked.

The slave auction was just meant to give him some leeway. He didn't have hopes of being sold off. Not that he wanted to.

Aster's gaze didn't go unnoticed as Markus slowly turned around to look at him.

''Oh hello there! Look at you all grown up, it almost makes me want to shed a tear. ''

Markus said sarcastically while walking up to Aster.

''Although I don't think anyone would spend a dime on a pig like you. How about it? Mutt. If you actually end up catching the eyes of someone, I'll get on my knees and let you cut my head off. ''

He paused and laughed, that screechy and annoying laugh of his that made my blood boil.

''But if you don't…I'll make sure to have my fun with you…''

He said looking at me with a disgusting gaze.

I simply stared back at him.

I was going to make sure he died.

I'll make sure he dies the most painful death ever.
